Speeding Volkswagen kills two in Stark County crash: Police

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – Two people have died after Canton police report a Volkswagen Golf travelling at a 'very high rate of speed' struck a Nissan Altima near 4th Street NW and Wertz Avenue NW.
The crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7.
Remains found in search for missing teen last seen at airport
According to police, both vehicles were traveling on Wertz Avenue. The Golf was heading northbound when it hit the Altima, which was traveling southbound, attempting to turn eastbound onto 4th Street NW, said police.
'The driver of the Golf was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Canton Fire Department. The driver of the Altima was transported by the Canton Fire Department to Aultman Hospital where she later succumb to her injuries,' states a press release.
Nationwide recall of Zicam® and Orajel™ products
The driver of the Golf has been identified as Christopher Siple Jr., 41, of Canton.
The driver of Altima has been identified as Dai'sha Wise, 28, of Canton.
The Canton Metro Crash Team responded and is investigating the accident, according to police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Canton Police Department Traffic Bureau at 330-438-4485. Anonymous tips can also be sent through Tip411.

One of the bullets struck a resident's mattress, according to a Monday police report. No one was injured. Multiple 911 callers reported gunfire. Witnesses told dispatchers they heard at least five shots, according to the report. Officers found four people, ages 26, 51, 56 and 70, in two homes along East Emerling Avenue that had been struck by gunfire, according to the report. A vehicle parked on the street was also struck. Officers found several shell casings in the area. Police responded to another reported shooting hours later, just after 5 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, in the 300 block of Ira Avenue. Witnesses told authorities they heard gunfire and 'saw people running and screaming in the area,' reads the report. Officers arrived on scene and found seven people inside a home that had been hit by bullets, at least one of which went through a bedroom wall, according to the report. Officers found four shell casings in the area. They also found an ATV in the street, which they believe the suspects used to flee the area. A third shooting was reported at about 4 p.m. on Sunday in the 1200 block of Weiser Avenue. Then there were multiple gunshots. Officers found three bullets that had struck a tree and one bullet that went into the victim's home, hitting the man's mattress. Pink flamingo statue thief wanted — again — in Parma
PARMA, Ohio (WJW) — Police in Parma said they will hold whoever is responsible for stealing a pink flamingo statue responsible, once they catch them. Officials said, police and the detective bureau will work together to find the person or people involved, charge them accordingly, and bring them in front of a judge. Nationwide recall of Zicam® and Orajel™ products Police report that sometime before noon on Friday, June 7, the large flamingo statue at the corner of Broadview and Snow Roads was stolen. The City of Parma Street Sign Supervisor, Brain Deyling, reported the theft. The statue is valued at approximately $2,500. It just went up in April. Parma native, Dennis Vasko, donated $2,000 for the statue's creation in dedication to his 4-year-old granddaughter Ava, who is autistic. 7 teens shot after drag racing incident: I-Team The theft comes just about a year after Parma's other flamingo statue was stolen from the Parma script sign. Three men were caught on surveillance video trying to stuff the original flamingo into a trunk before ditching it. Those men were sentenced to 10 days in jail for attempted vandalism, as well as each ordered to pay a $500 fine and complete 500 community service hours. They replaced that statue on the same day they added the statue that was just stolen from the Quarry.
