Kasey Campion hits out at driving tests following M50 scare

Extra.ie20-05-2025
An Irish influencer has hit out at the Irish driving test system after she was close to having a 'heart attack' following a scary experience on the M50.
Kasey Campion had been on the M50 driving to work when the tyre of her car burst and she was forced to pull in on the busy motorway.
The incident happened at approximately 9.30pm with the podcaster later admitting she hadn't known how to deal with the terrifying situation. Kasey Campion had been on the M50 driving to work when the tyre of her car burst and she was forced to pull in on the busy motorway. Pic: Instagram
Taking to TikTok from the side of the M50, Kasey said: 'Guys it would only be me to make a TikTok in this position but my car, the tyre is burst, I'm on the side of the M50.
'I've to be in work in half an hour and I'm actually sh****ng myself, what do I do right now? I'm on the side of the M50, lads, I'm actually going to have a heart attack.'
Kasey reiterated her questions as she revealed her father had told her to get behind the crash barriers. @kaseycampion20 guys im safe now typing this from a Garda car but my life honestly flashed before my eyes #help #crash #notokay #flat ♬ All My Friends – Dermot Kennedy
The young woman followed up with a clip from the safety of a Garda car before sharing a clip of her car on a tow-truck.
Kasey met her father at the Ballymun exit of the m50 where the pair waited for an emergency tyre fitter to arrive and change the tyre, costing '220 of her hard-earned euros.'
'I am not taking this €220 sitting down,' Kasey hit out, holding up a bottle of BPerfect's Chroma Cover, which she revealed she was linking in the video. @kaseycampion20 I wish I was joking @BPerfect Ireland #help #sellout #flattyre #saveme ♬ original sound – Kasey Campion
'The Chroma Cover is going to cover my tyre puncture!' Kasey insisted, with her father hilariously adding: 'Also, it will cover your face and make you look really good — you probably look good anyway.'
The father and daughter duo added that they needed to see '120 units' in order for Kasey to cover the cost of her tyre.
Later sharing further details about what happened, Kasey admitted she hadn't been aware that she could drive the car 'for a bit' with a flat tyre, admitting she should've found somewhere safer.
'A lot of people are saying on my video, 'Why didn't you just change the tyre yourself?' First of all; I'm just a girl. Second of all, I'm on the M50 — there's not even a hard shoulder and third of all, I wouldn't have been able to change a tyre,' she said.
'If someone crashed into me I would've been a goner,' she added, 'Wasn't able to go to work.
'The bottom line is driving test is a load of rubbish because I did it five times and I didn't know what to do when my tyre burst on the M50.'

Major road used by thousands of Irish drivers set to close this weekend with diversions in place

And a recall notice has been issued to a number of car owners ROAD ALERT Major road used by thousands of Irish drivers set to close this weekend with diversions in place A MAJOR road used by thousands of Irish drivers is set to close this weekend with diversions in place. Dublin City Council has alerted motorists about the temporary closure on their website. Werburgh Street in Dublin 8 is temporarily closed this weekend to facilitate planned telecommunications works. The closure is taking place this weekend from 9am to 8pm on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17. And motorists are being warned it will affect the stretch of Werburgh Street between Christchurch Place and Ship Street Little. For traffic arriving from Lord Edward Street onto Werburgh Street, diversions will be in place. This includes directing vehicles via Christchurch Place, Nicholas Street and Ross Road. Clear signage will be installed to direct motorists and road users are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during this period. I'm an Irish driving instructor and here are the top hand signals you need to know for the test Step Telecoms Ltd. added: 'Pedestrian access will be facilitated at all times. 'Local access will be facilitated, when possible, from all closure points.' MOTOR BRAND RECALL Meanwhile, Irish car owners of a popular motor brand have been warned to "stop driving their vehicle" - as a major recall has been issued. Citroen C3 and DS 3 cars have been issued a recall notice. The Road Safety Authority shared the warning on X after Gowan Distributors Limited, which imports Citroen and DS vehicles, issued an urgent stop-drive recall. The recall affects certain Citroen C3, C-Zero and DS 3 models as their Takata airbags could burst with excessive force if they deploy in a crash. 'DO NOT DRIVE' The RSA said: 'Important notice for owners of a Citroen C3 and DS 3. 'Citroen/DS Ireland have asked vehicle owners of certain Citroen C3 and DS 3 models to stop driving their vehicle until the airbags have been replaced by a dealership.' Safety bosses explained that chemicals inside these airbags can deteriorate over time, especially when the cars are exposed to warm and humid conditions. This deterioration could make the inflator explode more violently than intended, leading to pieces of metal striking the driver or passengers. The RSA said this fault can cause serious or even fatal injuries if the airbag goes off during an accident. They said: 'Takata airbags may deteriorate over time, particularly in warm, humid climates'. 'This could cause the airbag to burst with too much force in the event of an accident, which could lead to serious or even fatal injuries in the worst-case scenario.'

I'm an Irish driving instructor and here's top hand signals you need to know for test

AN Irish driving instructor has revealed the top hand signals you need to know for the test. Getting full marks on these signals is essential to acing the test. 2 @Vistadrivingschool is a popular Irish driving instructor on TikTok 2 And he shared the top hand signals you need to know for the test @Vistadrivingschool is a popular Irish driving instructor on TikTok with over 5,000 followers on the platform. And he shared with his followers the most difficult hand signals you might be asked about on the day. The first hand signal you need to know is for slowing and stopping. This is used to alert drivers behind you that you're slowing down or coming to a halt, particularly in situations where your brake lights are not functioning. To give the signal, extend your left arm out of the driver's side window, keep your upper arm horizontal and your forearm vertical with the palm facing forward, then move the forearm up and down. The driving instructor said: "The first hand signal that you need to know is the three hand signals needed for cars that are behind you and your brake lights aren't working or your indicators aren't working. "The first one is slowing down and stopping - make sure that your palm is facing the ground, arm straight out, and with up and down movements." Up next, drivers must know the left-turn and right-turn hand signals. This is used to make your intention to turn clear to other road users if your indicator isn't working, or if you want to give an extra warning. To give the left signal, extend your left arm straight out of the driver's side window so it is level with the road, keep it straight from your shoulder to your fingertips with the palm facing forward. I'm an Irish driving instructor and here is what I would do to pass the test for the first time tomorrow And unlike the slowing and stopping signal, there's no up-and-down movement for the right hand signal. The driving instructor said: "For turning left you want to face your palm out and do a circle motion around. "And for turning right you can put your arm straight out the window, palm facing out as well." If there are gardaí or a flag person in front of you and you want to turn right, learner drivers can do the same movement as if there were a car behind them. For turning left, drivers must extend their right arm and cross it across their chest pointing left, while for going straight ahead drivers must put their left hand up and the palm facing out. This comes after another TikToker shared the little-known mistake on the day of your driving test that could cost you €85. @Next_level_driving_school on TikTok shares useful tips and tricks on their page. Faded L-plates could give your driving instructor a reason to cancel your test, resulting in the loss of your test fee. He said: "It's probably best not to turn up to your test with faded L-plates, as your test might not go ahead, and it will be a waste of €85. "So make sure your L-plates are in good condition and not faded, so the tester does not have a reason not to go out on the test with you."
