KOTA KINABALU (July 21): Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) president Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has confirmed that GRS intends to continue its cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) under the current state government structure.
'Yes, of course. We want to continue the cooperation within the current government — the state government of GRS and PH,' he said when asked whether the pact between GRS and PH would be formalised.
When asked if GRS would contest the majority of seats in the upcoming election, Hajiji responded: 'Certainly.'
'We also want to listen to local aspirations, so we will make the best decision for Sabah. For us, political stability is very important — not just winning the election, but ensuring stability after the election. Only then can we plan and develop our state,' he told reporters today at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
Hajiji also shared that discussions with PH had taken place several times, including talks with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is the chairman of PH.
'I think we will make a final decision. Of course, we will announce it when the time comes,' he added.
Hajiji was responding to questions regarding the upcoming Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah general assembly, scheduled for this weekend.
He said the three-day assembly is being held in accordance with the party's constitutional requirements.
'This time, the meeting is considered important because we may face an election at any time after the assembly,' said Hajiji, who was attending the State Scholarship Awards presentation ceremony at SICC.
Speaking on the scholarship initiative, Hajiji expressed pride in the state government's continued prioritisation of education.
'In my development roadmap, I've made human capital development a key focus. Over the past few years, we've seen success in assisting not only high-achieving students but also those in need of support,' he said.
Hajiji added that he hopes talented Sabahans will return home to serve the state after completing their studies.
'We hope that when they pursue courses relevant to current developments, it will create more employment opportunities. We want them to come back and contribute to Sabah — both in the government and private sectors,' he said.

Both stability and growth apparent under GRS: Duo

Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 Text Size: Kadir and TC Goh. Kota Kinabalu: Two prominent business leaders lauded the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-PH government under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor for maintaining political stability and driving inclusive economic development in the State. Chief Executive Officer of Kumpulan BTC Berhad Datuk Abdul Kadir M.E. Sikkandar, said the current administration has created a conducive environment for business growth and investor confidence. He highlighted the government's commitment to transparency, inclusiveness and people-centric development, stating that Sabah today stands on a strong foundation. 'With continued leadership under Hajiji I am confident Sabah will scale even greater heights. 'Political uncertainty continues to challenge other parts of the country, but Sabah has emerged as a model of calm, unity and steady progress,' he said. Abdul Kadir said Kumpulan BTC Berhad, a homegrown company, has grown significantly under the current administration and now employs over 800 Sabahans across various sectors. He attributed the expansion to the state's stable political climate and pro-business policies under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan. 'The SMJ Plan has reenergised key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and renewable energy. 'While also opening up opportunities for local and Bumiputera entrepreneurs to thrive,' he said. Abdul Kadir who is also the Deputy President of the Dewan Usahawan Melayu Sabah observed a renewed sense of optimism among local entrepreneurs, especially younger Sabahans exploring opportunities in business, agriculture and innovation within the State. Meanwhile, prominent businessman Tan Sri TC Goh said the GRS government's economic stewardship has yielded remarkable results. 'The result exceeded expectations and solidifying its position as a capable administrator,' said the Sabah Advisory Council (SEAC) member. 'The Government's success is underscored by a dramatic increase in state revenue: nearly RM7 billion annually for 2022, 2023, and 2024 – a significant leap from RM3.5 billion in 2020,' Goh said. This growth, Goh said, mirrored a robust rise in Sabah's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), climbing from RM83.2 billion in 2023 to RM84.3 billion in 2024, coupled with a substantial increase in state reserves to RM8.6 billion. He said these figures demonstrate a healthy and thriving economy, directly attributable to the GRS government's effective management. 'This economic growth translates into higher income and employment rates, ultimately improving the standard of living for Sabahans…Furthermore, the stability fostered by the GRS government has boosted investor confidence, creating a positive feedback loop for continued economic expansion.' * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? GRS reaffirms support for MADANI government under Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has reiterated its support for the Madani government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that this decision stems from the federal government's responsiveness to Sabah's demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Hajiji, who is also Sabah's Chief Minister, highlighted that many of the state's requests had been approved and implemented, benefiting the people. 'I would like to reiterate that GRS remains supportive of the Prime Minister. Many of our initiatives and demands under MA63 have been approved by him,' he said during his winding-up speech at the Gagasan Rakyat Annual General Assembly. He contrasted the current administration's cooperation with past difficulties in securing approvals. 'Previously, it was very difficult to devolve powers or approve our requests... if the Madani Government is good for our state, why wouldn't we support it?' Hajiji added. The shift in GRS's support came after dissatisfaction with the previous federal government's stance on the 'Borneo Bloc' concept. 'I was shocked by those remarks... I reflected on it for a long time and eventually lost heart in them,' Hajiji explained. Additionally, Hajiji confirmed his attendance at the upcoming Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation in Jakarta, where discussions will include matters related to the Sulawesi Sea. - Bernama

SST impact on construction, foreign business policies in Dewan Rakyat today

KUALA LUMPUR: The government's efforts to shield ongoing construction projects from the Sales and Services Tax (SST) and policies regulating foreign-owned businesses will take centre stage in today's Dewan Rakyat session. Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis) has submitted a question to the Works Minister seeking clarity on which construction projects qualify for SST exemptions. He also inquired about measures to prevent the tax from disrupting current projects and whether a grace period before SST implementation is being considered. Meanwhile, Mohd Hasnizan Harun (PN-Hulu Selangor) will question the Housing and Local Government Minister regarding policies on foreign nationals operating businesses in Malaysia, particularly in retail. He seeks details on enforcement against businesses registered under citizens' names but fully managed by foreigners, including cases involving spouses who are citizens. Animal welfare will also be addressed, with Wong Chen (PH-Subang) asking the Agriculture and Food Security Minister if a national framework to combat stray animal abuse will be introduced. Collaboration with NGOs, local authorities, and animal welfare experts is also expected to be discussed. Later in the session, two bills will be tabled for first reading: the Cross-Border Insolvency Bill 2025 and the Education (Amendment) Bill 2025. The sitting will then proceed with second readings of the Fees (Pengkalan Kubor Ferry) (Validation) Bill 2025, the Poisons (Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Offenders Compulsory Attendance (Amendment) Bill 2025. The Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament continues until August 28. - Bernama
