Rockstar Games allegedly knew about GTA 6 delay months in advance

Express Tribune05-05-2025

Despite previously aiming for a late 2025 launch, Rockstar Games reportedly knew internally that Grand Theft Auto VI would likely be delayed well before it was made official.
The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, first teased in 2023 with a record-shattering trailer, has been largely absent from the spotlight since, leaving fans eagerly awaiting updates and fueling ongoing speculation about its progress.
According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, developers at Rockstar had long doubted the 2025 release window due to the project's massive scale, tight timelines, and the studio's commitment to healthier development practices.
'Nobody I've talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time now,' Schreier shared on Bluesky, referencing the company's deliberate move away from the 'brutal crunch' that defined earlier releases like Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V.
While mandatory overtime hasn't been entirely eliminated, Schreier emphasized that the current work environment is 'night and day' compared to the studio's previous cycles.
Rockstar's cultural shift toward sustainable production appears to be one of the key reasons behind the internal expectation of delays and why the studio never rushed to reassure the public of its original timeline.
Now, the game has been officially moved to a release date of May 26, 2026, though some remain skeptical it will even meet that target.
As fans eagerly await a second trailer, some former Rockstar developers believe the hype machine doesn't necessarily need another big push.
Another year of, "We got ____ before GTA 6."
For a title as highly anticipated as GTA VI, silence may be all the marketing it needs.

PHOTO:REUTERS Apple is set to introduce a new dedicated gaming app at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, scheduled for June 9–13, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman report. This app aims to centralize gaming features across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, replacing the existing Game Center. Bloomberg reports the app will serve as a hub for launching games, tracking achievements, viewing leaderboards, and accessing editorial content. It will also provide quick links to the App Store's game section and highlight Apple Arcade, the company's \$6.99/month subscription service. Features will include a "Play Now" tab for curated game recommendations, integration with FaceTime and iMessage for social interactions, and support for App Clips to offer mini-game demos . Additionally, The Verge reports that Mac-specific feature will allow users to play games downloaded from outside the App Store. In a strategic move to bolster its gaming portfolio, Apple has acquired RAC7 Games, the studio behind the popular Apple Arcade title *Sneaky Sasquatch*. RAC7 will continue to operate independently within Apple. Despite these initiatives, Apple faces challenges in gaining significant traction in the gaming market, particularly on Mac devices, which are often perceived as less capable than Windows PCs for gaming. According to Tech in Asia, Apple's acquisition of RAC7 Games, reported by Tech in Asia, marks its first gaming studio purchase and signals a strategic shift from platform provider to content creator. Known for the hit Apple Arcade title Sneaky Sasquatch, RAC7 strengthens Apple's push for exclusive, curated gaming experiences—mirroring its content strategy seen in Apple TV+. The upcoming gaming app represents Apple's most substantial effort to date to establish a stronger presence in the gaming industry.

'Thunderbolts*' director Jake Schreier reportedly in talks to helm Marvel's long-awaited ‘X-Men' reboot

Jake Schreier, the filmmaker behind Thunderbolts, is reportedly in early talks to direct Marvel Studios' long-anticipated X-Men reboot, according to Deadline. Although a deal has yet to be finalized, Schreier has emerged as the top candidate after recently sitting down with Marvel execs. This development arrives on the heels of Thunderbolts' breakout success. The film has been met with critical acclaim and has pulled in $162 million globally in its opening run, making it Marvel's best-reviewed film since Spider-Man: No Way Home. The project is being produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, with the script handled by Michael Lesslie, known for his work on The Hunger Games franchise. Schreier's apparent passion for the source material reportedly helped him stand out. As a lifelong fan of the X-Men comics, his pitch is said to have impressed studio brass, mirroring Marvel's tendency to elevate directors from within the fold, as seen with the Russo Brothers' leap from Captain America sequels to Avengers: Endgame. Since Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019, fans have been eager for a modern cinematic revival of the mutant saga. With the success of X-Men '97 on Disney+ and the record-breaking box office run of Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel seems primed for a new era of mutant storytelling with Schreier potentially leading the charge.

New GTA VI trailer captured entirely in-game from Playstation 5

Rockstar Games just dropped the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, and it's raising eyebrows for all the right reasons. Despite initial assumptions that the trailer leaned heavily into story mode, Rockstar has clarified that it features 'equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.' What's more impressive? The entire trailer was captured in-game using a PlayStation 5, no cinematic trickery, no pre-rendered fluff. The visuals are a full-throttle flex of the hardware's power and Rockstar's technical prowess, showing off exactly what players can expect when the game finally lands. 'The trailer was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5,' Rockstar confirmed, which makes the seamless visuals even more jaw-dropping. Whether it's chaotic car chases, moody neon cityscapes, or tight character animations, everything seen in the footage is pulled directly from what the console can generate in real time. The result is a showcase of GTA's next-gen evolution, blurring the line between cutscene and control. Set for release on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Grand Theft Auto VI is shaping up to be a milestone entry in the franchise. But fans will need to exercise a little more patience. Shortly before releasing the trailer, Rockstar announced that the launch date has been delayed. Originally slated for late 2025, the release has now been pushed to May 26, 2026. While disappointing to some, the studio insists it's a necessary move to meet their own high standards. 'To deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,' they explained, the team needs the extra development time. Although delays are never easy for an eager fan base, Rockstar's history of producing landmark titles suggests the wait will be worth it. And if this new trailer is any indication, what's coming is not just another GTA game, it's a generational leap.
