Nicolas Law Group Announces the Publication of a Report on Increasing DUI Arrests in Illinois in 2024

Chicago, Illinois--(Newsfile Corp. - August 11, 2025) - Nicolas Law Group P.C.(Nicolas Law), a leading Chicago criminal defense law firm, is pleased to announce the publication of a report on a 32% increase in DUI (Driving Under the Influence) arrests across Illinois in 2024, prompting widespread alarm among citizens and legal professionals. The law firm believes the sharp rise can be attributed to increased law enforcement activity, more funding, and enhanced detection equipment used throughout the state. Nicolas Law Group announces the publication of a report on increasing DUI arrests in Illinois in 2024 To view an enhanced version of this graphic, please visit: Illinois law is very serious about DUI charges, and it awards heavy punishments to the offenders. As per state law, drivers are under the jurisdiction of DUI charges if their BAC is 0.08% or higher. However, according to Nicolas Law Group, many Illinois residents remain unaware that DUI charges can also be filed even when a driver's BAC is below the legal limit, if law enforcement determines their driving ability is impaired. Carl Nicolas, Principal Attorney at Nicolas Law Group, emphasized, "Illinois follows an "implied consent" law, meaning that by driving on Illinois roads, you've already consented to chemical testing if arrested for DUI. Refusing such tests triggers an automatic license suspension for 12 months for first-time offenders, which is separate from any penalties resulting from a DUI conviction. " The criminal defense law firm Nicolas Law Group urges Illinois drivers to remain informed and cautious, recommending that drivers understand their rights, including the implications of implied consent laws, and consider seeking legal representation if they are arrested or charged with a DUI. "If you or someone you know has been charged with driving under the influence in the Chicago area, you're likely experiencing a mix of anxiety, confusion, and uncertainty about what comes next," says attorney Carl Nicolas. While the state only continues to increase enforcement measures, Nicolas Law Group continues to inform the public about DUI law and defend the rights of individuals navigating the Illinois criminal justice system. Nicolas Law has defended hundreds of clients throughout Chicago and Illinois, developing case-specific defense strategies for each individual client. The law firm takes every case personally and gives it their all to defend clients. Rash of shootings in Chicago's Austin neighborhood may have stemmed from party, sources say

Two people are dead, and at least seven others were injured, in a series of three different shootings in the South Austin neighborhood on Chicago's West Side overnight Saturday into Sunday. Social media posts showed a huge party in the area as police arrived. Police have not said if the shootings are all connected, but CBS News Chicago has learned they may have stemmed from the party. Some social media posters showed hundreds of people in the streets in South Austin overnight, calling it a Club Jroy event. Another post said the event went on for 10 blocks. Some videos also show the start of some of the violence. Social media video documented the shooting started around midnight on Lamon Avenue near West End Avenue — though a police incident report placed the first shooting at 1:40 a.m. In that incident, Chicago police said officers responded to a person shot and found the victim, a 20-year-old woman, with multiple gunshot wounds to her arms. She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in good condition. Just before 3 a.m., a mass shooting transpired about a block away, around West End and La Crosse avenues. A woman was killed and five others were wounded: At 4:37 a.m., another shooting transpired — this one on Maypole Avenue near Lavergne Avenue. Two 18-year-old men were approached by two others, who fired guns in the directions of the teens as a fight ensued. One of the 18-year-olds, identified as Kaleb Williams, was hit twice in the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The other 18-year-old was hit in the arm and was taken to Mt. Sinai, initially listed in good condition. The numbers added up quickly. A police source told CBS News Chicago that police officers were so outnumbered, they had to call in units from near O'Hare International Airport, the Northwest Side, and downtown. CBS News Chicago tried to approach Mayor Brandon Johnson at a public event Sunday, asking the mayor to talk to us about the shootings and police staffing, but he would not stop for comment. Meanwhile, the organizers who promoted the event on social media acknowledged in a video clip that he had thought about canceling. CBS News Chicago tried reaching the promoter through social media platforms, but have not heard back.

The driver didn't stop to help the victim, who was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as 22-year-old Jermaine Martin. Police said the SUV fled north on Kedzie Avenue after the incident and was last seen in the areas of Sacramento and Archer avenues in the Brighton Park neighborhood.
