Breaking: Orlando Pirates confirm fifth departure

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the departure of midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo on Wednesday evening.
The 28-year-old is joined the Buccaneers in 2022 and made a number of notable contributions during his time in the famous black and white. Ndlondlo has a good first season under Jose Riveiro but fell down the pecking order a season later, with the ex-Pirates coach preferring Thalente Mbatha in the middle of the park.
Ndlodlo's absence during pre-season hinted that the midfielder was not part of coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's plans ahead of the 2025/26 season.
'The Club extends Its sincere gratitude to Phillip for his professionalism and commitment during his spell at Orlando Pirates and wishes him every success In the next chapter of his career.
Meanwhile, Orlandopiratesfc.com confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Orbit College FC for the loan of Monnapule Saleng. The 27-year-old will spend the 2025/26 season with the newly crowned outfit.
Aside from Ndlondlo, the Buccaneers parted ways with Innocent Maela, Miguel Timm, Thabiso Monyane and Paseko Mako. Both Monyane and Mako have since joined rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
So far, the club has signed a total of nine players. The team is currently in Spain for pre-season and will be involved in a number of friendly matches in the coming weeks.

South African 400m star Zakithi Nene prepares for London Diamond League showdown

The in-form Zakithi Nene (centre) will take to the track again against a tough 400m field at the London Diamond League meeting on Saturday. SA's 400m star Zakithi Nene returns to the track at Saturday's London Diamond League meeting ready to build on his status as the fastest one-lap runner in the world this year against tough opposition. Nene, whose time of 43.76 seconds is the world lead for 2025, will take comfort in the fact that none of his challengers who will line up in the starters' blocks at the London Stadium have come close to that time this year, with season's best times hovering around the mid-44s. Home favourite and Paris Olympics silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith could be among Nene's strongest rivals. Home favourite He is in good form after his win at the recent Eugene Diamond League in the US, in a time of 44.10. That field included US 400m runner Jacory Patterson, who pipped Nene to the Rabat Diamond League title in a nail-biting finish. The jet-heeled Nene, fresh from a break in competition after a busy start to the season, has been based at a high-performance centre in Switzerland in the week leading up to the London event, according to his coach, Victor Vaz. While all eyes will be on the 27-year-old South African flyer to see if he can dip below 44 seconds again, Vaz feels the win would be more beneficial to Nene in the build-up to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.

Orlando Pirates: New faces, recovery updates, transfer chase

Orlando Pirates' pre-season training in Spain is now in full swing, with the club unveiling a clear strategy of rebuilding and refreshing their squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The addition of nine new players, including promising young talents such as Sipho Mbule and Oswin Appollis, has brought renewed energy to the camp. The coaching staff is closely monitoring their progress, aiming to blend youthful exuberance with the experience of established squad members. The mood within the squad remains professional and focused, despite the looming departure of Mohau Nkota, who is set to complete a transfer to Saudi Arabia's Ettifaq Club. Nkota's goals and attacking contributions were instrumental last season, making his exit a notable loss. However, the Buccaneers appear determined to adapt quickly, working hard to build a team capable of competing strongly both domestically and on the continental stage. On the injury front, defender Olisa Ndah is making encouraging progress as he nears a return from a lengthy layoff. His presence will strengthen Orlando Pirates' backline, which has been tested during pre-season due to absences. Meanwhile, off the pitch, reports have emerged linking the Buccaneers to Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro, a player who impressed during his recent loan spell at AmaZulu FC. If completed, this signing could offer valuable attacking options, helping to fill the void left by Nkota and increase competition for starting places upfront. The future of talented midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng remains a key talking point. With interest reportedly coming from European clubs, his stay at Pirates is not guaranteed. Nevertheless, the club is focusing on assembling a balanced squad ready to challenge for trophies, regardless of the outcome.
