Week 7 SEC baseball power rankings: Where LSU sits after weekend sweep
We are in week seven of the college baseball season and we have made it through another week of conference games. The best series of the weekend was in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as the Crimson Tide won a series against Oklahoma.
Finally, Florida and Texas A&M were able to get a win in conference play but they were still unable to win their respective series. For now, they remain in the cellar of the SEC power rankings.
The Georgia Bulldogs had quite an impressive outing against Auburn last weekend as they swept the Tigers and asserted their dominance at the plate.
A few more sweeps that happened this weekend, Tennessee swept South Carolina, Arkansas swept Vanderbilt, LSU swept Mississippi State, and Texas swept Missouri.
Here are your SEC baseball power rankings after three weeks of conference play.
1. Tennessee Volunteers
Another week, another sweep for the Vols. Tennessee took a trip to Columbia, South Carolina to take on former LSU skipper Paul Mainieri, and they took all three games from the Gamecocks. Tennessee is now 26-2 and 8-1 in conference play. They are very likely to be 11-1 after this weekend as they take on Texas A&M.
2. Georgia Bulldogs
The Georgia Bulldogs are 28-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play after sweeping the Auburn Tigers in Athens last weekend. In the final game, it took extra innings to get the job done but the Dawg bats were up to the task. Georgia scored 20 runs between game two and game three to beat the Tigers. The Dawgs travel to Austin this weekend to take on the Texas Longhorns in what should be a great series.
The Arkansas Razorbacks are 26-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play. They swept the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville last weekend. It was an impressive showing once again for Arkansas as their offense scored 22 runs in three games against Vandy. The Hogs take on the worst team in the conference this weekend, Missouri.
4. Texas Longhorns
Texas had another great weekend in the SEC as they swept Missouri. The Longhorns are 23-3 and 8-1 in conference play. Unfortunately, Texas was struck by the awful news that their All-American outfielder, Max Belyeu, will miss the rest of the regular season with a fractured thumb. He was hitting .358 with six homers and 22 RBI so far this year.
LSU fought the Bulldogs and the rain as they swept Mississippi State at Alex Box Stadium last weekend. LSU is now 26-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Tigers will travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on a good Sooners team this weekend. LSU is now 26-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The Alabama vs Oklahoma series last weekend was incredible. Two teams with similar colors laid it all on the line and the Tide was able to take Game One and Game Three to take the series. This series win moved Alabama into the Top 10 in every college baseball ranking. This weekend the Tide head to the Plains for the Iron Bowl of Baseball against Auburn. Bama is now 25-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
7. Ole Miss Rebels
Hello there Ole Miss. The Rebels made the biggest jump in the Power Rankings this week as they took two out of three games from the Florida Gators. They improved to 21-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Rebels will hit the road this weekend to take on Kentucky.
8. Oklahoma Sooners
As I mentioned earlier, the Sooners matchup against Alabama last weekend was an incredible series. Even though Oklahoma came away with the short end of the stick, they put on an impressive showing. Due to that, the Sooners still find themselves in the Top eight of the SEC standings. The Sooners are 22-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
9. Auburn Tigers
It was a rough weekend for the Auburn Tigers as they got swept by Georgia in Athens. The Tigers had their chances to come away with at least one win but the Bulldog bats just kept raking. The Tigers take on a hot Alabama team this weekend at Plainsman Park. Auburn is 20-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
10. Vanderbilt Commodores
Remember what I said last week about not being sold on the Commodores yet? They did not help their case after Arkansas swept them in Nashville last weekend. The Commodores are 20-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play. This weekend they travel to Florida to take on a Gators team that has been plagued by injuries.
11. Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky is 17-9 and 4-5 in conference play after winning the series against Texas A&M last weekend in College Station. The Wildcats fell in their midweek game against Xavier before taking the series against A&M. This weekend, they will be back home as they take on Ole Miss.
12. Florida Gators
Finally, the Gators got a win in conference play as they took the final game against Ole Miss. In Game Two against Ole Miss the Gators actually hit a grand slam to take the lead in the top of the ninth inning but they blew that lead and blew the series by allowing the Rebels to come back and win that game. Florida is now 19-11 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
13. South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks are on a downhill slide as they have lost seven games in a row. They were swept by Arkansas, then lost to North Carolina in their midweek game, and then they got swept by Tennessee last weekend. South Carolina is now 17-12 overall and 1-8 in conference play. They will travel to Starkvegas to take on a Mississippi State team that needs a win.
Speaking of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, they traveled to Baton Rouge and got swept away by the rain and by the LSU Tigers. The Bulldogs are now 16-12 overall and 1-8 in conference play. They will fight against the Gamecocks this weekend as they try to climb the power rankings.
Like Florida, Texas A&M finally got a win in conference play as they took game one against Kentucky before eventually losing the series. The Aggies are now 13-14 overall and 1-8 in conference play. Their schedule does not get any easier as they take on No. 1 Tennessee this weekend.
16. Missouri Tigers
Missouri is now the only team in the SEC without a conference win. The Tigers are 9-17 overall and 0-9 in conference play. Anything that can go wrong, has gone wrong for Missouri in 2025.
