Poltergeist house from iconic horror film is now available to RENT... after ghostly activity was detected
Homeowner Rachel Powers invested about $165,000 to recreate the set of the 1980s classic, and is now offering stays via AirBnB, VRBO, and Futurestay.
'I had a soft listing to get a feeler out first before I told the media, so that I could get some feedback,' Powers said of the Simi Valley, California, home while speaking with the Daily Mail.
After she purchased the property in October 2024, the house was featured on the two-hour season 29 premiere of Ghost Adventures in April 2025.
'They used a combination of devices, including an ITC, spirit box, digital voice recorders, Polaroid cameras, Ovilus, cameras, night vision, thermal imaging, motion sensors, EMF meters, and trigger objects like Heather O'Rourke's Cabbage Patch doll,' Powers said of the episode.
The attempt to connect to the dead was a success, as Powers recounted, 'They caught some electronic communication, an object moving unexpectedly (Heather's doll), cold spots, flickering lights, troublesome locks, energy drains (via paranormal investigator Zak Baggans), and activity around the old TV.'
The new homeowner added, 'The episode tied the history of the filming of the movie, the actors, the history of the land, and the house, focusing on the investigation of the rumored Poltergeist curse.'
Powers shelled out a cool $1.28 million for the piece of real estate, paying $100,000 over the asking price, according to TMZ.
The house was on the market just two months before its new owner scooped it up.
The supernatural horror classic — written and produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre filmmaker Tobe Hooper — became the eighth highest-grossing film of 1982.
In the film, a suburban home (later revealed to have been built on a burial site) is haunted by demonic spirits who seek to force out the Freeling family.
JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Oliver Robins, the late Heather O'Rourke and Dominique Dunne starred in the horror classic.
The 16,000-square foot Simi Valley home, located north of Thousand Oaks and Malibu, has four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.
A large swimming pool is located in the spacious backyard, as well as a circular jacuzzi nearby.

The front of the house has a three-car garage, a lawn, and several trees while a brick walkway leads up to the wooden front door.
Per Equity Union Real Estate's listing last August, the abode has 'a thoughtfully designed layout perfect for entertaining, relaxing, and living your best life.'
The home has been 'well taken care of' and possesses 'good energy' in spite of its ties to the film franchise.
The two-level home includes a vast living room with large windows, allowing for ample sun to come in 'creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.'
It also has a dining room that connects to a kitchen 'where fans of the movie will love to see it's still in its original form but with updated appliances,' the listing stated.
There is also a family room that features a fireplace and space for an office, according to the listing, or that 'could easily be converted into a downstairs bedroom.'

Zac Brown has revealed the secret to his weight loss transformation after shedding an impressive 65 pounds. The country singer, 46, has been on a grueling 'spirit quest' over the last seven years, and has tried a range of diets – including veganism – to try and get there. Now, he is looking trimmer than ever and weighs in at just under 200 pounds - and he is imploring Americans to 'invest in the way that you feel.'
