Poltergeist house from iconic horror film is now available to RENT... after ghostly activity was detected
The Poltergeist house from the 1982 horror movie is now being rented out to the public. Homeowner Rachel Powers invested about $165,000 to recreate the set of the 1980s classic, and is now offering stays via AirBnB, VRBO, and Futurestay. 'I had a soft listing to get a feeler out first before I told the media, so that I could get some feedback,' Powers said of the Simi Valley, California, home while speaking with the Daily Mail. After she purchased the property in October 2024, the house was featured on the two-hour season 29 premiere of Ghost Adventures in April 2025. 'They used a combination of devices, including an ITC, spirit box, digital voice recorders, Polaroid cameras, Ovilus, cameras, night vision, thermal imaging, motion sensors, EMF meters, and trigger objects like Heather O'Rourke's Cabbage Patch doll,' Powers said of the episode. The attempt to connect to the dead was a success, as Powers recounted, 'They caught some electronic communication, an object moving unexpectedly (Heather's doll), cold spots, flickering lights, troublesome locks, energy drains (via paranormal investigator Zak Baggans), and activity around the old TV.' The new homeowner added, 'The episode tied the history of the filming of the movie, the actors, the history of the land, and the house, focusing on the investigation of the rumored Poltergeist curse.' Powers shelled out a cool $1.28 million for the piece of real estate, paying $100,000 over the asking price, according to TMZ. The house was on the market just two months before its new owner scooped it up. The supernatural horror classic — written and produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre filmmaker Tobe Hooper — became the eighth highest-grossing film of 1982. In the film, a suburban home (later revealed to have been built on a burial site) is haunted by demonic spirits who seek to force out the Freeling family. JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Oliver Robins, the late Heather O'Rourke and Dominique Dunne starred in the horror classic. The 16,000-square foot Simi Valley home, located north of Thousand Oaks and Malibu, has four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. A large swimming pool is located in the spacious backyard, as well as a circular jacuzzi nearby. Per Equity Union Real Estate's listing last August, the abode has 'a thoughtfully designed layout perfect for entertaining, relaxing, and living your best life.' The home has been 'well taken care of' and possesses 'good energy' in spite of its ties to the film franchise. The two-level home includes a vast living room with large windows, allowing for ample sun to come in 'creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.' It also has a dining room that connects to a kitchen 'where fans of the movie will love to see it's still in its original form but with updated appliances,' the listing stated. There is also a family room that features a fireplace and space for an office, according to the listing, or that 'could easily be converted into a downstairs bedroom.'

Tom Rafferty, Cowboys OL from 1976-89, dies at 70
June 6 - Longtime Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman and Super Bowl XII champion Tom Rafferty died Thursday at 70. Rafferty played in 221 combined regular season and playoff games at guard and center from 1976-89, bridging the careers of Hall of Fame quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. Rafferty's daughter, Rachel Powers, confirmed his passing Thursday in Windsor, Colo., following a stroke. He had been hospitalized since early May. A fourth-round draft pick out of Penn State in 1976, Rafferty started the Cowboys' 27-10 win against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XII and their 35-31 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XIII. On Jan. 3, 1983, Rafferty's block helped spring Tony Dorsett's NFL-record 99-yard touchdown run against the Minnesota Vikings. Rafferty worked in sports equipment sales following his retirement from the NFL. He is survived by his wife, their son and daughter and two grandchildren. --Field Level Media
