EastEnders star slams soap and says show was 'far from a highlight' of career
Former EastEnders star Jamie Foreman, who played Derek Branning in the BBC soap has criticised his time on the show. The star, who played the role of a Branning brother from November 2011 until December 2012 has said the role was "far from a career highlight".
Despite only being on the soap for a year, Derek Branning had a number of memorable storylines, including his affair with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), who was married to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) at the time. In 2012, Derek starred as a main part of the Christmas Day episode, in which he had a heart attack and died.
However, despite the huge storylines, actor Jamie Foreman has revealed his time on the soap wasn't a "highlight" in his career at all.
Speaking on the Lewis Nicholls Show, Jamie said: 'I'm going to be a little bit controversial here. I don't see EastEnders as anywhere near the highlight of my career. It was another job.
"And I know how iconic it is for people out there, and I respect it and what it represents, especially for the BBC. But for me… they'd asked me so many times before.'
Jamie then revealed he was out filming in Germany when he got the phone call offering him the role - "again." He was then told he'd be "joining the best family," and could join for however long he wanted. "I said, 'I only want to do it for a year,'" he said.
Explaining his reasoning behind his short stint, Jamie revealed he didn't want to get burn out, or become "trapped" when he had other work behind him.
However, Jamie went on to reveal that the soap "made promises they never kept". Jamie claims he was told he wouldn't have to work on Saturdays - although he later claimed: "I did every Saturday. I was the first in, last out every day.'
Speaking on the long hours, Jamie revealed he once filmed "36 scenes in a day," claiming working on a soap "burnt him out." Despite this, Jamie said he was thankful for the experience, although it was "far from a highlight of his career."
Since departing Walford, Jamie has Double Decker Driving School, Birds of a Feather and Porters, to name a few.

BBC Radio Scotland's Bryan Burnett to return to airwaves after cancer treatment
BBC Radio Scotland presenter Bryan Burnett will return to the airwaves on Thursday after undergoing cancer treatment. The broadcaster announced in June he would step back from his programme Get It On to receive care for appendix cancer. Fellow presenter Grant Stott, who stepped in during his absence, announced his return to listeners on Tuesday night. He said: 'In what must have been a terrible time for Bryan and his family and close friends, I'm just delighted I was able to help by looking after something that is very precious to Bryan; Get It On and his listeners. 'Getting to do the show over this time has shown me just how close the audience is to Bryan and vice versa. 'I know they will be delighted to get their radio teatime pal back.' Burnett said his treatment had been successful and thanked those who had wished him well throughout his recovery. Commenting on his return, he said: 'I am delighted to be returning to work following successful treatment for appendix cancer. 'Over the past few months I have been focused on my recovery and have been supported by an incredible medical team, my family and friends, and the overwhelming kindness of so many BBC Radio Scotland listeners who have reached out with encouragement and well-wishes. 'Their messages, cards and kindness have meant so much. 'My team at the BBC have also been a huge support and I want to thank Grant Stott, who has been sitting in for me and done such a great job looking after the show. 'My return to work will be gradual to ensure I maintain my health and energy. Cancer has given me a renewed perspective on what matters most and I am excited about the road ahead and grateful for the opportunity to return to doing what I'm passionate about.' Coronation Street confirms new love interest for Dee-Dee after killer Joel
Coronation Street favourite Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) has the chance of romance in upcoming episodes. But bearing in mind the fact that she's just settling into motherhood after a complicated start with her baby Laila, embarking on a new relationship is a tricky thing to navigate. And there's also the fact that she was left badly traumatised by how her last relationship turned out. Dee-Dee fell for fellow solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill), but it wasn't long before she discovered he was married and had a child. He insisted he and his wife were separated and she confirmed this and insisted Joel was a good man, but it took a while for him to regain Dee-Dee's trust. Eventually the pair got engaged. Deeply religious Dee-Dee believed that sex before marriage was wrong, but Joel persuaded her otherwise. It was eventually revealed to viewers that Joel was the person who was behind the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) – something Roy Cropper (David Neilson) had been imprisoned for. As Lauren's story was uncovered it became clear that Joel was a sick and twisted man. When Dee-Dee discovered his crimes she was obviously appalled – and even more so because she was by then pregnant with his child. The knowledge of what Joel had done meant that Dee-Dee initially felt she wouldn't be able to bond with the baby, Laila, and she decided to give her up for adoption. After much soul-searching she recently decided she wanted to be Laila's mum. She's now co-parenting her with her brother James (Jason Callender), who had wanted to adopt her. This is all a lot of baggage to take into a new relationship, so in upcoming episodes when Dee-Dee realises that she's very attracted to Ollie, a new client and someone who previously flirted with her in the Rovers, she's hesitant to act on it. She tells Ollie it wouldn't be right to get into a relationship with him, but when he goes to kiss her she kisses him back, letting her heart rule her head for once.
