Over 600 medical professionals attended the third edition of Medcare Women and Children Hospital's annual symposium

Dubai – The third edition of Medcare Women and Children Hospital's symposium, a specialised annual event dedicated to treating conditions affecting women and children, concluded successfully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre. The seven programmes presented highly enriching and engaging discussions on the most significant challenges impacting women and children. The day-long pivotal gathering, themed 'Women's and Children's Health: Advancing Outcomes Through Surgical & Medical Synergy,' focused on the latest healthcare updates, new practices, and most recent developments in the women's and children's medicine landscape.
Accredited for Continuing Medical Education (CME) with seven CME points for one-day symposium, the conference drew over 600 healthcare professionals from across the UAE and beyond. The conference featured 27 keynote speakers spanning across trending health topics like obstetrics, gynaecology, neonatology, paediatrics, endocrinology, cardiology, genetics, and emergency medicine.
'The core of maternal and child care must be centred on outcomes,' said Dr. Malathi Arshanapalai, Group Chief Medical and Quality Officer of Aster DM Healthcare. The symposium featured a highly structured agenda, covering foundational and advanced topics that focus women and children's health, some of which included interesting areas like Bowel Endometriosis, Breast Cancer, fertility and PCOS, genetics in new born, placenta previa, recurrent fevers in children, most common paediatric emergencies, and nutritional deficiencies in children.

Nurse Naomi Ohene Oti from Ghana has been named the winner of the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award 2025, selected from 100,000 applications from 199 countries. An Oncology Nurse Specialist and Head of Nursing at the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, she was recognised with USD 250,000 at a prestigious ceremony held in Dubai, UAE. She has been instrumental in developing and launching oncology nursing training programs in partnership with international centres like the Cross Cancer Institute in Canada, bringing world-class cancer education to local nurses in Ghana and significantly improving patient outcomes. In 2015, she was part of an expert team that developed the country's postgraduate oncology nursing curriculum, and under her leadership, over 60 oncology nurse specialists and 10 breast care nurses have been trained, greatly expanding specialized care services nationwide. Her influence extends across the continent. She is a member of education and training committee for the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), and co-investigator on Global Bridges Oncology GM Grant.
