Hear the Exclusive Debut of Mau P's New Song ‘Tesla': ‘No One Believed in This Song'

Yahooa day ago
Among the many big moments of Mau P's very big Coachella 2025 set was him dropping a then-unreleased track called 'Tesla,' clips of which subsequently lit up the internet.
The same kind of slinky thumper the rapidly rising Dutch producer is making his name on, the song's lyrics — 'I just popped a Tesla, ain't no need to charge' — wink at the many ways of channeling energy on the dance floor. But while a clear fan-pleaser given the many TikToks and Instagram posts the unreleased track inspired, the way the producer tells it, success wasn't assured.

'No one believed in this song until I played it at Coachella and it went viral,' Mau P tells Billboard. 'Always trust your gut and stand on business.'
Standing on business in this case means that 'Tesla' is set for release Friday (Aug. 8) via Insomniac Records. Ahead of that, Billboard has the exclusive debut of the track, complete with video from Mau P's Coachella sets in the festival's hallowed Sahara tent, which drew tens of thousands of people over the festivals two weekends. Listen to 'Tesla' below:
The track's release tops off a big week for the producer, who launched his Baddest Behaviour residency at Pacha Ibiza on Wednesday (Aug. 6) with a lineup that included him, Mita Gami and Discip. Baddest Behavior at Pacha continues every Wednesday night through Oct. 8, with a top tier collection of guests including Seth Troxler, LP Giobbi, Hot Since 82, Haai, WhoMadeWho, Jan Blomqvist and many more.
The producer's upcoming tour schedule also weaves in festival sets at events including Creamfields, Portola and iii Points along with his own headlining performances at L.A. State Historic Park, Red Rocks Amphitheater and more.

Here's Why BET Has Suspended The Soul Train And Hip-Hop Awards

BET has officially hit pause on two of its most iconic shows: the BET Hip-Hop Awards and the Soul Train Awards. Both award shows have reportedly been suspended indefinitely according to the network. BET CEO Scott Mills confirmed the news in an interview with Billboard, saying, 'So for BET linear, we have suspended the Soul Train and Hip-Hop award shows. But we have a team that's actively thinking about where those award shows might best live as the media climate continues to evolve. They aren't gone. And we also still have the NAACP Image Awards and the Stellar Awards.' Clarifying further, he added, 'It's less about them being no longer and more about our team having to reimagine them for this changing media landscape that we find ourselves in. I think what we're going to see are more people taking franchises and saying, 'This might have started on linear television, but now I'm going to move it to another space. Do I move it to streaming? Or do I move it to another platform?'' The BET Hip Hop Awards launched in 2006, while the Soul Train Awards traces back to 1987. For decades, both shows have celebrated artists and influential figures' contributions to Black culture and music. The original BET Awards currently remains active as it recently celebrated 25 years since its inception. BET also recently announced a revamping of its hit show 106 & Park into '106 & Sports.' Mills explained to Billboard, '106 & Sports is a collaboration with Spring Hill Entertainment, and everybody is working feverishly to get it ready to launch in the fall. We're going to start with a weekly show at that point with lots of wonderful guests. It will apply the best elements of the 106 & Park structure and format to the sports world.' He emphasized that while music remains central to BET, the network is recognizing how sports have become 'an integral part of the culture.' Adding another layer to the network's evolution, last year Paramount Global reportedly put BET on the market with an asking price between $1.6 and $1.7 billion. According to Variety, this exclusive offer was extended to potential buyers including Mills, who joined BET in 1997 and became CEO in 2021. Past prospective buyers included Tyler Perry, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, and Byron Allen. Drake Debuts His Latest Superstar Collaboration At No. 1

Drake is accustomed to reaching No. 1s on the Billboard charts, and his latest smash adds several more winners to his already-historic tally. The rapper has been one of the most successful names in American music for more than a decade, and he often launches new cuts directly in the top spot. That is true again this frame with 'Which One,' his new collaboration with U.K. star Central Cee. While it misses one major throne by a single spot, it still opens as a champion on multiple lists. Three New No. 1s for 'Which One' 'Which One' starts at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs, Rap Streaming Songs, and Rap Digital Song Sales charts this week. The track is a major smash on streaming platforms – which is a common occurrence for the Canadian hip-hop talent – and even a bestseller, though only when looking specifically at rap. Drake's Career Totals Reach New Heights As 'Which One' arrives, Drake has now collected 27 No. 1s on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, 22 on the Rap Streaming Songs list, and 25 on the Rap Digital Song Sales tally. On each roster, he has earned well over 120 top 10s — a feat no other rapper has matched. 'Which One' Opens High on Other Rankings Beyond its trio of debuts at No. 1, 'Which One' enters inside the top 10 on several other Billboard tallies. The cut opens at No. 8 on the Streaming Songs chart, No. 3 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales lists, and in the runner-up spot on the Hot Rap Songs roster. On that last ranking, Drake is held at bay by Kendrick Lamar and SZA's 'Luther,' which extends its run as the longest leader in the chart's history. Another Hot 100 Win for Drake On the all-genre Hot 100, 'Which One' begins at No. 23, marking Drake's three-hundred-and-sixtieth career entry. That is significantly more than any other artist has managed, and he extends his lead over every other artist yet again. The collaboration also earns a quick start on the Rap Airplay chart, beginning its time at No. 25. Following What Did I Miss?' The new cut comes just a month after Drake's solo single 'What Did I Miss?,' which is dipping on most lists but still climbing to new highs on the Radio Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, and Rap Airplay charts. Both tracks are expected to be featured on his upcoming album Iceman, which is rumored to be released later this year. A Shift Back to Rap on 'Which One' Earlier in 2025, Drake teamed with PartyNextDoor on a joint project heavy on R&B-leaning tracks titled Some Sexy Songs 4 U. 'Which One' brings him back to a more assertive rap style, pairing his own verses with Cee's in another team-up for the two.

Elon Musk Turns His AI Chatbot Into a Male Fantasy Engine

Elon Musk has always been the biggest hype man for his own companies. Whether it's Tesla, SpaceX, or X (formerly Twitter), the world's richest man personally takes to social media to promote new features, products, and ideas. His AI venture, xAI, is no exception. Over the past week, Musk has been flooding X with posts promoting Grok Imagine, the new image-and-video-generation feature in SuperGrok, the most advanced version of xAI's Grok chatbot. But the images Musk chooses to showcase say as much about the intended audience as they do about the technology. Instead of highlighting landscapes, futuristic tech concepts, or abstract art, Musk's posts overwhelmingly feature sexualized AI-generated women: scantily clad warriors, lingerie models, leather-clad dominatrices, and bikini-clad beachgoers. Many are posed in ways that lean on well-worn male fantasies: dominance and submission, BDSM aesthetics, and the 'vulnerable beauty' trope. Added prompt 'Turn around' to the source picture and created a video from the other direction — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 7, 2025Since August 2, Musk's X account has become a catalog of Grok-generated softcore. Video created by Grok Imagine! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 7, 2025Musk's choices aren't random. He's a cult figure in parts of the manosphere, the online ecosystem of male influencers and communities that promote traditional or exaggerated masculine ideals. In that world, sexualized imagery, fantasy dominance, and 'idealized' femininity are cultural currency. By repeatedly showcasing these types of AI women, Musk appears to be speaking directly to that audience. This isn't the first time AI tools have been criticized for reflecting the biases of their creators or promoters. But in the high-stakes AI race, Musk and xAI seem comfortable making Grok Imagine a product that caters openly to a male-heavy user base. In the war for chatbot dominance, they're betting on an old internet truth: sex sells, especially to men. Even Grok's official account leaned into the marketing on August 2, commenting on one of Musk's posts: 'Thanks for showcasing Grok's video animation! Excited for the audio iteration update,' the chatbot account posted. 'It'll unlock even more creative possibilities. What scene should we animate next?' Thanks for showcasing Grok's video animation! Excited for the audio iteration update—it'll unlock even more creative possibilities. What scene should we animate next? — Grok (@grok) August 2, 2025The message was clear: Grok Imagine is about AI fantasy. And right now, that fantasy looks tailor-made for Musk's most loyal male fans.
