The search is on for 2 who are believed to be trapped in abandoned mine
Two men are believed to be trapped inside an abandoned mine close to Duvha Park.
According to information received, they went to the mine together with a group to 'husstle'.
Police were on the scene with search dogs but have found no sign of the missing men so far.
Vosman Police Station spokesperson Captain Vusi Mnisi said, 'The two missing men have been trapped inside the abandoned mine since June 13 and cannot be found. The site is extremely dangerous, and it is very risky to retrieve them. We are currently waiting to hear from the mine management to see if they will assist with recovery efforts.'
This comes after a missing person report was filed following one man's failure to return home.
According to police, the missing man told his girlfriend he was going to Vosman Cycle near KG Mall but never came back.
After attempts to reach him failed, family members were informed by an unknown man driving a white Mercedes-Benz that the missing man and another individual were stuck inside the mine while three others escaped.
The man left without providing full details or identification.
Hulisani Rasivhaga, Thungela's Head of Communications, has confirmed the incident.

No trace of 2 men believed to be trapped in Clewer mine shaft

No trace of 2 men believed to be trapped in Clewer mine shaft A tense and desperate search continues for two men believed to be trapped deep inside a sealed-off abandoned mine shaft near Clewer. Among the missing is 45-year-old Tshepo Motsiye, who vanished over two weeks ago after reportedly entering the disused Greenside Colliery mine for illegal mining activities. Since their disappearance on June 13, families, police, mine officials, and local community members have launched an ongoing search-and-rescue operation. However, the effort has been severely hampered by the extreme hazards posed by the mine's unstable and toxic environment. As the hours turn into days, anxiety and desperation continue to mount, particularly for Tshepo's family, who are still clinging to hope for his safe return. According to Captain Vusi Mnisi of Vosman SAPS, Tshepo was last seen leaving home, telling his girlfriend that he was heading to 'Vosman Circle'. When he failed to return and stopped responding to calls, his girlfriend raised the alarm and contacted his family on June 17. 'Tshepo just didn't come back,' said his sister, Nomsa Motsiye. 'We were worried immediately, but still held on to hope. Then a man came to our house, claiming he had been underground with Tshepo and others, but that Tshepo and another man got trapped.' Thungela Resources confirmed that on June 18, they were notified by concerned family members that two individuals from the local community may have gained unauthorised access to a sealed-off underground section of Greenside Colliery. Help lay ‘beautiful soul' to rest

Friends of a man who was found deceased in the burned-down house in Van Wyk Louw Street are reaching out for donations to cremate him. Johannes Breedt died on June 17. According to his death certificate, he died of natural causes. Unieta Swanepoel, who knew Breedt described him as a beautiful soul who was snatched away by heroin. 'We loved and cared for him and always tried to get him off the streets. We would feed him; and allow him to have a hot shower and a warm bed. But it was always just for a day or two before he would disappear again,' Swanepoel said. She said he was sick and weak the Wednesday before his death when he visited her at home. 'I asked him if he used, and he replied he did not have money. When we found him, he had no blanket, just lying on boxes, frozen. I think he was so weak he couldn't get up to look for something warm and froze to death.' Although cremation is a more affordable option, it still carries a considerable cost. The cremation is estimated to cost R10 000. Swanepoel paid R1 000 and is pleading to the community to, in the shadow of drug addiction, show kindness and help her lay her friend to rest. If you can assist, you can contact Swanepoel at 061 500 3488.
