One robber had a toy gun

The Citizena day ago
A man was arrested following last night's robbery at Safarie Supermarket.
He was arrested after he stumbled into the adjacent tavern with a bullet wound to his leg. It is believed he is one of the four robbers.
He was shot by a security guard.
The security guard, unaware of the robbery, entered the supermarket and disrupted the robbers' plans.
'One of the robbers pointed a gun at me. Instinctively, I reached for my gun and shot,' the security guard, who wishes to remain anonymous, said.
The robbers returned fire and fled the scene, allegedly in a white BMW.
The injured robber fled to the tavern to hide.
There it was discovered that he had a plastic toy gun.
Back in the supermarket, a traumatised cashier told police, four men came in and one walked directly to the till where she was working.
The cashier, who did not want to mention her name, because she fears for her life, said, the armed man told her to hand over all the money in the till.
Police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall said the cashier also told police she saw another armed man taking a customer to the kitchen, where he was told to lie down.
'When the security guard started shooting, the robbers returned fire. It is a miracle that no one was injured,' Hall said.
Outside the supermarket, a man who sleeps in a tent close to the supermarket said he got the fright of his life when he saw men running and bullets flying. He also refused to give his name.
He said, 'There were four men. One ran into the tavern, and the others fled. One of the bullets ricocheted and scarred the man on his leg.
The wounded man was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.

Robberies increase in eMalahleni
Commenting on the surge of business robberies, Hall said on August 8 a man alleged that he went to withdraw money with his colleague at a mall, only to be robbed shortly after.
Upon return from the mall, the victim said his colleague dropped him off inside their premises and drove off.
He went in and dropped the pile of money at his other colleague's desk to go and get a bag, but came rushing back as his colleague reportedly screamed for his name in a sudden panic, seeing two armed men approaching the office door.
The men robbed them of the cash and several gadgets and fled the scene, leaving the two locked inside the office.
EYEWITNESS TELLS OF SAFARIE SHOOTING
On August 9, five men pretending to be customers entered another store.
One of the men walked up to the till, pointed a firearm at the customers and staff directing them to one side.
The gang took off with cash and expensive alcohol.
With business robberies on the increase, Hall again stressed the importance of jacking-up security.
'Prevention is the most powerful tool. Good lighting, visible cameras, and staff training can make a huge difference in deterring criminals before they act.'

Help 2 siblings struggling with drug abuse change their lives

After years of struggling with drug abuse, Mpumelelo Miya (28) and Skhumbuzo Miya (24) from Kwa-Guqa Extensions plead for help to reshape their lives. The two siblings said it all started when their mother passed on, and they had to fend for themselves as they had no one to turn to. While Skhumbuzo started by merely selling the drugs and later on had a try, with Mpumelelo it was a different case. 'I was heavily pregnant in 2019 when I first tried drugs. All I wanted to do was drown my sorrows as we were left all by ourselves,' she said. The brother and sister are currently pleading for all the assistance they can get to go to rehab and return to fetch their long buried dreams. All Voices Matter founder, Abongile Mcoki, and Thando Masango, anti-drug activists from Kakarambha Foundation, who were the ones to identify the duo, invite the community of eMalahleni to join them on Saturday 09:00 for a voluntary cleaning campaign to improve the environment they currently live in. For more information on how to donate or assist, you can contact Abongile at 067 735 2191, or Thando at 078 411 1756. Read the full story in next week's edition of WITBANK NEWS. Illegal dumping in Chartwell sparks resident outcry

Chartwell resident Rosalee Nel has voiced frustration over ongoing illegal dumping in the area, saying it is spoiling the environment and making it unpleasant for residents to enjoy simple outdoor activities. 'We can't even take runs to enjoy the area because of the dirty filth lining the roads. Dumping here is an everyday occurrence. It's not just unsightly; it's unhygienic.' Read more: Residents demand more action from MMC, JMPD, and CoJ on Kya Sands illegal dumping Nel said she has repeatedly reported the problem to ward councillor Rufas Maswazi and the city, but has not received any communication in response. Nel said a new dumping site is developing by Watercombe Road. 'A lot of it has to do with the composting place, which might be closed when people want to offload. So, instead, they dump rubble and trash along the route. This has been going on for far too long.' The resident is calling for, at least, a clear: 'No Dumping' sign in the area, to deter offenders, and for more active enforcement to hold illegal dumpers accountable. Fourways Review reached out to Maswazi. He commented on the issue, saying: 'I have escalated this matter to the service delivery group. The response from Pikitup is still not forthcoming.' He also encouraged residents to report illegal dumping to Pikitup at 011 688 1500 or email: [email protected]. Alleged rhino-horn possession: Nelspruit court postpones case again

The long-running case against Schalk Abraham 'AB' Steyn and Limpopo game farmer Dawie Groenewald, who face charges of illegal possession and transportation of rhino horns, has been postponed again. Lowvelder reports that the pair briefly appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court yesterday, where the matter was set down for a pretrial conference on November 10. Steyn and Groenewald were arrested together on July 20, 2021, at a property in the Riverside area, in Mbombela, where 19 rhino horns were allegedly found. They were granted bail of R50 000 each shortly afterwards. Since their arrest, the case has seen multiple delays – from legal representation issues to the defence requesting further documentation from the state. The November hearing is expected to determine whether the matter will finally proceed to trial. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel.
