Collector Asheesh Singh had issued instructions during a recent review meeting of Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to initiate strict action against drivers who repeatedly flouted traffic rules. He had specifically asked Regional Transport Officer (RTO) to commence proceedings for cancellation of vehicle registrations of repeat offenders.
Following the directives, Transport Department has issued notices to 31 vehicle owners, informing them of the impending cancellation of their vehicle registrations.
Regional Transport Officer Pradeep Sharma confirmed receiving a list of 31 vehicles that include bus, four-wheelers, and two-wheelers, from Indore Smart City Development Ltd that manages ITMS. These vehicles have accumulated at least 10 serious traffic violations each, including repeated red-light jumping and other significant infractions.
The owners of all these vehicles have been asked to respond to the RTO notices within seven days.
The notice states that if a satisfactory response was not provided within the stipulated time, the vehicle registration would first be suspended and subsequently cancelled. "Once the vehicle registration is cancelled, the same can't be plied on the road and if found, it would be seized," Sharma said.
Singh emphasised that adherence to traffic rules was mandatory for maintaining traffic discipline and controlling road accidents. He reiterated that strict action would be taken against those who repeatedly violate the rules. This initiative is seen as a important step towards making Indore a city with a safer and more streamlined traffic system, he said.

Gadchiroli Police Nab Truck Drivers in Hit-and-Run Case from Chhattisgarh, 450km Away

Nagpur: Gadchiroli police apprehended a truck driver and his co-driver from Korba in Chhattisgarh, around 450km from the site of a tragic hit-and-run incident that killed four children and injured two others on the Armori-Gadchiroli highway near Mauja Katli on August 7. The arrests were made on Saturday, cracking the case within 48 hours through a technical probe. The truck, transporting tomatoes from Anantapur to Raipur, was identified through a meticulous investigation leveraging RTO speed detection cameras and toll naka CCTV camera records. The horrific accident occurred early in the morning when an unidentified truck struck six children out for a walk and physical exercises. Two children died instantly, and two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The surviving victims, aged 13 and 14, were airlifted to a private hospital in Nagpur, where they underwent surgery and are now stable. Superintendent of police (SP) Gadchiroli, Neelotpal, who led the investigation, explained that the breakthrough came by analysing toll naka data and RTO cameras to pinpoint the vehicle's registration number and cross-referencing it with the timing of the accident, established through an eyewitness's phone call to family. Transport department seizes 18 vehicles, including bike taxis, for Motor Vehicles Act violations in Coimbatore

Acting on complaints from cab operators and autorickshaw drivers, the Coimbatore Transport Department conducted a special inspection on Saturday under the orders of N. Azhagarasu, Joint Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore zone. The operation was led by A.C. Viswanathan, Regional Transport Officer (Coimbatore Central), with motor vehicle inspectors from all regional transport offices in the city. Six private light motor vehicles were seized for being used as rental cars, and 12 two-wheelers were seized for operating through the Rapido app for hire, in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. A total fine of ₹1,80,000 was imposed. An official from the Transport Department said the fine for each vehicle was ₹10,000 and that violators could pay the fine and retrieve their vehicles. 'If there is a second-time violation, we are planning to initiate action on the registration certificate or move the matter to court,' the official said. The official added that such checks would continue in the coming weeks, as using non-transport vehicles for rental purposes is illegal and amounts to violation of permit conditions. 'Transport vehicles have to undergo an annual fitness certificate (FC) check and have higher insurance premiums, whereas non-transport vehicles require an FC only once in 15 years and have lower insurance costs,' the official said.

218 challans issued in Dharamshala for illegal parking in a day

Dharamshala: In a major crackdown on unruly parking, Kangra District Police issued 218 challans for illegal parking across the district in a day, police said. During the 24-hour drive that ended on Wednesday, a large majority of vehicle fined included those parked along the roads, especially in high-traffic areas. The police have raised concerns that haphazard roadside parking is not only disrupting smooth traffic flow but also posing serious safety risks to pedestrians and motorists alike. The situation is particularly alarming in McLeodganj, a key tourist hub, where narrow roads and heavy footfall already strain the local traffic system. 'Disorderly roadside parking is a punishable offence under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988,' the police said, adding that surveillance through Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) has been intensified and offenders are now being penalized with challans, vehicle seizure, and other legal actions.
