Fadnavis turns to Shah, Nadda to discuss errant Mahayuti leaders
Now, in order to put his house straight and unwilling to take any chances ahead of the local body elections planned after the monsoons, Fadnavis has decided to crack the whip.
On a recent two-day tour to New Delhi, the chief minister reportedly discussed the issue with the top leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). People in the know have told HT that Fadnavis met union home minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda during his visit. 'The CM is of the opinion that action needs to be taken against the errant ministers to set an example. The controversies around these ministers have dented the image of the government, which the CM has conveyed to his two deputies. He is expected to hold a meeting with both early next week,' said a senior BJP leader, requesting anonymity.
The leader however clarified that immediate action was unlikely as it will 'give fodder to the opposition to rejoice and seek credit for action taken on them'.
'The government faced embarrassment when then food and civil supplies minister Dhananjay Munde resigned, after his pictures related to Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh's murder popped up on social media, leading to anguish in the Maratha community. Any further resignations will only deepen the embarrassment for the government, which has not even completed a year,' said the leader. 'A reshuffle of portfolios held by the tainted ministers is likely over the next few weeks. They may be given insignificant portfolios.'
After meeting Fadnavis on Thursday in the Capital, Maharashtra NCP president Sunil Tatkare reached Pune to meet the NCP president Ajit Pawar on Friday evening. While details of the meeting have been kept under wraps, people in the know shared that it went on for a long time. 'The state president had a meeting with the chief minister late on Thursday evening. He then met Ajit dada, which indicates something is going on. But whether the party wants to take any action against its minister is yet to be seen. Ultimately, it will be the party's decision,' said a senior NCP functionary, wishing anonymity.
Earlier, speaking about the possible resignation of Kokate, Ajit Pawar told mediapersons in Pune on Thursday that 'it is the prerogative of the CM'. 'I will meet the CM on Tuesday and discuss the matter with him,' said Pawar.

Second chance for Munde?
Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said on Friday, in Pune that if Dhananjay Munde comes out clean of the allegations levelled against him, he could be inducted in the cabinet. Munde was recently given a clean chit by the Bombay high court from the allegation of corruption in the purchase of agricultural equipment when he was agriculture minister until October 2024. 'We are looking into another case related to him in which a judicial probe is going on. If he gets a clean chit from it, he may be inducted back in the cabinet,' said Pawar.

The Special Operation Group in Uttar Pradesh has uncovered a massive case involving fake Bachelor of Physical Education (B PEd) degrees in connection with the Physical Education Teacher (PTI) Direct Recruitment Examination investigation has revealed that 202 out of 203 appointed candidates used forged mark sheets allegedly issued by JS University, Shikohabad. SOG ASP Dharmaram Gila led the investigation, which uncovered the fraud using data obtained from the university's server logs. The probe revealed that while JS University is recognized for only 100 seats per academic session in the B PEd course, a staggering 2,082 candidates applied for government jobs citing degrees from the university. This massive discrepancy triggered a deeper investigation highlighted multiple layers of deceit:25 candidates claimed to have completed their B PEd course from other institutions but submitted JS University mark sheets for verification.26 candidates submitted degrees belonging to sessions that did not align with their claimed academic years.9 individuals provided entirely fake mark sheets.43 candidates submitted degrees from the 2020–2022 academic session, even though the examination was held on September 25, 2022—suggesting post-exam of the 203 scrutinised degrees spanning the academic sessions 2017–2019, 2018–2020, 2019–2021, and 2020–2022, only one—belonging to Kulraj Singh, son of Prem Singh—was verified as has identified the involvement of brokers in the preparation and distribution of fake mark sheets. Degree printing data retrieved from the JS University server backup confirmed the are now preparing to file an FIR against the JS University administration and 165 of the implicated candidates. Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu invites Singapore entrepreneurs to invest in state
Singapore, Jul 29 (PT) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has invited Singapore-based investors and entrepreneurs to participate in India's development drive and listed a wide range of projects planned and being implemented in his state. Addressing investors at the 'Andhra Pradesh – Singapore Business Forum and Partnership Summit Roadshow" on Monday, he highlighted a wide range of opportunities in the ongoing development of infrastructure such as ports and airports, and the creation of Quantum Valley in Amravati. Naidu said Andhra Pradesh would contribute 160 GW of green energy to India's target of 500 GW of green and clean energy by 2030. Addressing over 500 investors on the second day of his visit to the city state, the chief minister said an Arcelor Mittal steel plant and a Google operation bentre are to be set up in Visakhapatnam. He categorically listed out the development of industrial corridors that are being led by Indian conglomerates, including Tata Group's Ratan Tata Innovation Hub. 'I am requesting Singapore entrepreneurs to participate in the development. We need more investments, and we need more and more entrepreneurs. We need your support for the development, and India is the best and a safe place for investment," remarked Naidu. At the event, he spoke widely about deep tech, electronics, semiconductors, green hydrogen, logistics, ports, airports, inland waterways, pharma, biotechnology and tourism. No phone call between Modi and Trump during military actions, EAM Jaishankar tells Parliament
New Delhi : India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack has created a 'new normal' for fighting cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan that includes confining bilateral talks to terrorism and not giving in to nuclear blackmail, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said on Monday. (PTI) Participating in a special debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, Jaishankar said India's new approach is based on a five-point approach, which makes it clear that 'terror and good neighbourliness cannot co-exist [and] blood and water cannot flow together'. He said there was no phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump during those crucial weeks and rejected any links to trade. He also said other than Pakistan and three nations, most of the 193 United Nations members had backed India's position and said the recent designation of the The Resistance Front –– which claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam attack –– as a global terrorist organisation came after the Centre's efforts. 'The challenge of cross-border terrorism continues but Operation Sindoor marks a new phase. There is now a new normal. The new normal has five points. One, terrorists will not be treated as proxies. Two, cross-border terrorism will get an appropriate response. Three, terror and talks are not possible together. There will only be talks on terror,' Jaishankar said at the conclusion of his intervention in Lok Sabha. 'Four, not yielding to nuclear blackmail. And finally, terror and good neighbourliness cannot coexist, blood and water cannot flow together. This is our position.' Jaishankar, who spoke on the foreign policy dimension of India's response to the Pahalgam attack, made it clear that the understanding to halt military actions on May 10 was reached by the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan – thereby implying that Trump had played no role in the matter. He said there was no contact between Modi and Trump between April 22, when the US leader called to condemn the Pahalgam attack, and June 17, when the two leaders spoke on phone after they were unable to meet on the margins of the G7 Summit in Canada. 'I want to make two things very clear… One, at no stage in any conversation with the US was there any linkage with trade and what was going on. Secondly, there was no call between the Prime Minister and President Trump from April 22, when President Trump called up to convey his sympathy, and June 17, when he called up Prime Minister in Canada to explain why he could not meet [Modi], Jaishankar said. Trump has claimed on more than 20 occasions that he brokered a 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan as they are nuclear-armed states. While the military hostilities were on, a number of countries and leaders contacted the Indian side to ascertain the thinking in New Delhi. 'To everybody, we gave a common message [that] India is exercising its right to defend itself against terrorism [and there] will be no mediation,' he said. Though India announced a range of punitive measures against Pakistan a day after the Pahalgam attack, including keeping the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance and shutting down the only operational land border crossing at Attari, Jaishankar said India's response could 'not stop there'. He added, 'Our red lines had been crossed and we had to make it very apparent that there would be serious consequences.' Before launching Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar said, India began 'shaping the global understanding' of the Pahalgam attack by highlighting to the world community Pakistan's long-standing use of cross-border terror, and how the attack was 'meant to target the economy of Jammu and Kashmir and to sow communal discord among the people of India'. India faced a challenge in these efforts because Pakistan is currently a member of the UN Security Council. However, India worked to get an endorsement from the Security Council of the need for accountability and to bring to justice those who perpetrated the Pahalgam attack, he said. This came in the form of the council's press statement of April 25, which condemned the attack and underlined the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers, financers and sponsors of the attack accountable. The government's efforts also led to the recent US designation of TRF as a global terrorist organisation, which came after the Pakistan government blocked any reference to the terror group at the UN Security Council.
