Public Shows Strong Support For ‘Jom Beli Lokal' Campaign At KPDN Carnival

ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 28 (Bernama) -- The Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM) 2025 themed 'Jom Beli Lokal' has received a positive response from traders and visitors at the Southern Zone Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Carnival Tour held here.
A Bernama check found that most visitors and entrepreneurs welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a timely move to strengthen demand for local products and benefit micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Café owner Roslinda Basir, 51, said the campaign has opened more opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs to promote their products directly to consumers.
'At this carnival, I'm selling nasi ambang with a variety of homemade side dishes and sambal. The response over the past two days has been very encouraging.
'With continued support from the government, more Malaysians will get to know and have confidence in products made by local entrepreneurs,' she told Bernama at her booth today.
Kuih keria seller Mohamad Riduan Sukiman, 41, also welcomed the campaign, describing it as part of the government's ongoing efforts to empower local industries.
'I hope efforts like this can be extended to rural areas too, because our local products are high quality. We just need to maintain momentum and ensure continuity to reach wider markets,' he said.
Visitor Noraini Md Yusof, 32, described the campaign as a timely move to help stimulate the economy of the people in the post-pandemic period.

Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the nationwide operation, which began on June 23, involved audits on 133 companies operating commercial vehicles. Of these, 85 companies failed to comply with JISA guidelines, while only 48 passed. 'The non-compliant companies comprised 43 lorry operators and 42 tour and express bus operators,' he said after attending JPJ's Setia Khas Assembly here today. Among the key violations were the failure to appoint occupational safety and health officers, lack of GPS installation in all vehicles, and poor GPS monitoring practices. Many companies also failed to record drivers' working hours, which must not exceed eight hours a day, and did not ensure a minimum 30-minute break every four hours of driving. He added that some companies had no safety action plans in place and did not display hotline numbers or the names of responsible officers on their vehicles for public complaints. 'The department will submit the list of non-compliant companies to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for further action, including possible suspension or cancellation of operating licences.' he said. Samyang Foods' market cap tops 10 trillion won on buldak boom
SEOUL (Bernama-Yonhap): The market capitalisation of Samyang Foods Inc., known for its globally popular Buldak spicy ramyeon, has exceeded 10 trillion won (US$7.3 billion) for the first time, helped by robust sales of the Buldak series, the main bourse said Sunday, Yonhap News Agency reported. On Friday, the company ranked 54th in market capitalisation, reaching 10.049 trillion won based on a closing price of 1,334,000 won per share, according to the Korea Exchange (KRX). Samyang Foods' share price has doubled from a year earlier and skyrocketed from around 40,000 won at the end of 2016, driven by continued viral food-eating challenges and the popularity of Buldak ramyeon's extreme spiciness. The company recently expanded one of its three domestic plants to meet rising global demand for its products. In addition to its domestic facilities, Samyang plans to begin construction of its first overseas plant in China next month. The company currently operates in China, Japan, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and the US. Last year, Samyang's sales surged 45 per cent on-year to 1.73 trillion won due to strong demand for its Buldak ramyeon series in the US and China. It earned 77 per cent of its total revenue from overseas markets. Brokerages expect Samyang's operating profit will jump 51 per cent on-year to 135.2 billion won in the second quarter and sales will rise 31 per cent to 554.6 billion won. --Bernama-Yonhap

Pineapple growers welcome KBBM campaign to stabilise prices, boost income
JOHOR BAHRU: Pineapple growers say the 2025 'Buy Malaysian Goods' campaign (KBBM), themed 'Jom Beli Lokal' (Let's Buy Local), could help stabilise market prices and ensure steady demand for local agricultural produce. Mohd Nasry Mohd Nasir, 38, a pineapple grower from Samarahan, Sarawak, said the initiative also promises stronger market assurance for farmers, provided consumers continue to support local products. He said the campaign would encourage greater demand for various local pineapple varieties. "This initiative is very good overall. It helps boost farmers' income while highlighting the quality of our pineapples, which are on par with those from overseas," he told Bernama when met at the 2025 International Pineapple Industry Seminar here yesterday. Nasry, who has managed his family's pineapple farm for the past three years on over 100 acres, added that the campaign could also reduce reliance on middlemen if implemented over the long term. "In Sarawak, for example, the Moris pineapple variety is relatively cheaper, with market prices at about RM10 for three fruits, but when sold to middlemen, the price drops to about RM2.50 each. "Some middlemen resell them at RM10 for just two fruits, so this campaign may help reduce our dependence on them and allow buyers to purchase directly from us at better prices," he said. Meanwhile, Johor-based pineapple grower Mohd Zulafiq Nordin, 38, believes the initiative could open broader market access for small and medium-scale farmers, including supermarkets and online sales platforms. He said it would also help increase sales of lower-grade pineapples that are still of good quality. "Middlemen usually only take Grade A pineapples for the market. The smaller grades that don't meet their criteria are usually sold directly by us. "So, with an initiative like this, we as farmers can offer more variety directly to consumers," he said. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) launched KBBM on June 27 as part of efforts to revitalise the sales of local goods and reduce dependence on imported products. Its minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, was reported as saying the campaign focuses on increasing the sales value and market penetration of local products, strengthening domestic economic growth, and supporting local entrepreneurs and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). According to him, KBBM involves multiple ministries and government agencies through a whole-of-nation approach and will be conducted through both physical promotions at business premises and online platforms in collaboration with major e-commerce operators.
