Centre calls meeting of Telangana, Andhra CMs on river water disputes
The Centre has invited Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to meet in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil.
The Union Minister has asked both the chief ministers to communicate their availability for the meeting.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is visiting Delhi on July 15 and 16. As per the itinerary, he is scheduled to meet C. R. Patil at 2.30 p.m. on July 16.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Telangana Chief Minister's Office said a meeting is scheduled with the Union Jal Shakti Minister in Delhi on the 16th of this month, where Telangana will strongly pursue its water share, seek approvals for ongoing projects, push for allocations, and demand clearances for new projects.
According to the statement, Revanth Reddy has decided to ensure the optimal utilisation of every drop of water due to the state from the Krishna and Godavari rivers and to intensify pressure on the Central Government to secure Telangana's rightful share of river waters through legal means.
He has resolved to urge the Central Government to immediately grant clearances for projects in Telangana on the Krishna River, allocate Telangana's fair share of water, and provide financial assistance for the construction of these projects. Along with protecting Telangana's interests in the Krishna and Godavari waters, the Chief Minister has directed that long-standing injustices be addressed through permanent solutions.
On the Chief Minister's instructions, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has written a letter to Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil.
Telangana has faced prolonged injustice in the utilisation of Krishna River waters. The previous government accepted a mere 299 TMCs for Telangana, while conceding 512 TMCs to Andhra Pradesh. It remained silent while Andhra Pradesh illegally constructed projects upstream of Srisailam, diverted Krishna waters at will, and encroached on Telangana's rightful share, said the statement.
Irrigation projects constructed during the undivided state on the Krishna River were left incomplete, without proper water allocations. On the Godavari side, the Pranahita-Chevella project undertaken near Tummidihatti, after spending Rs 11,000 crore, was shelved. Instead, the Kaleshwaram Project was constructed, leading to the misuse of over Rs 1 lakh crore of public funds, it added.

Farmers being misled on urea shortage: BJP
The BJP has accused the Congress Government of sowing the seeds of doubt into the minds of farmers in Telangana about the purported shortage of urea for the Rabi season, even when the Centre had actually supplied three lakh metric tonnes more. Addressing the farmers' wing (Kisan Morcha) of the party, during a meeting of its office-bearers at the State BJP office here on Thursday, party president N. Ramchander Rao said that the 'urea shortage bogey' is being created by the ruling party only to reap the benefit during the forthcoming local body polls. The BJP chief charged the government with spreading falsehoods when the Centre had supplied 12.02 lakh metric tonnes of urea for the 24-25 agriculture season, when the demand was just 9.5 lakh metric tonnes. In fact, under the Modi Government, necessary steps were taken to provide ample supply of fertilizers to farmers across the country and also in dealing with black marketers with an iron hand, unlike the UPA regime 'where farmers were forced to stand in queues for obtaining it', he added. Yet, the Congress Government here wants to mislead farmers and to cover up its own failures in not ensuring proper payment of Rythu Bharosa, which has been cut from the promised ₹15,000 during the elections to ₹12,000, but now ₹6,000 is being credited into farmers' accounts, he said. Mr. Ramchander Rao also said that the farmers' welfare scheme payment was made last month only after the High Court had directed the local body polls to be held by September end. It has been 19 months since the Government has come to power but there has been no movement to provide the farm insurance which would help the famers during natural calamities under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana and following the BRS Government in this connection, he said. The former MLC also questioned the government about the Bhu Bharati module replacing the controversial Dharani of BRS regime and said it is marked with technical glitches. 'Farmers are forced to run around registration offices for justice still and there is a lack of accountability from the administration side. We should go to the local level and highlight farmers' grievances,' he advised the wing. The BJP leader said such is the sad financial condition in the State that retired employees are being denied benefits and made to run from pillar to post. General secretary G. Premender Reddy, farmers' wing national executive member G. Madhusudhan Reddy and others were present. Medak tour Mr. Ramchander Rao will tour Medak district and participate in various programmes, organised by the BJP, in Narsapur, Chegonta, Medak, and Toopran, on Friday, said a press release.

ED Files Charge Sheet Against Robert Vadra In Land Deal Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday filed a charge sheet against businessman Robert Vadra, son-in-law of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in connection with a money laundering case linked to a land deal in Haryana's Shikohpur. The prosecution complaint filed before the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) arrayed a total of 11 accused individuals/entities in the case, including Robert Vadra and his Sky Light Hospitality, Satyanand Yajee, Kewal Singh Virk, and Onkareshwar Properties. As per the ED's chargesheet, Vadra's Skylight Hospitality 'fraudulently' purchased 3.53 acres of land situated in the village of Shikohpur in Haryana's Gurugram district for Rs 7.5 crore from Onkareshwar Properties through 'false declaration'. It added that Vadra, 'through his personal influence', obtained a commercial license on the land purchased. The federal anti-money laundering agency said that 43 immovable properties worth Rs. 37.64 crores pertaining to Robert Vadra and his companies were attached on Wednesday. In April this year, Robert Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was questioned in multiple rounds by the ED and his statement was recorded. The land purchase deal in question was executed in February 2008 when Congress was at the helm in Haryana, and Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the chief minister. The mutation process, which usually takes months, was done the next day. Months later, Vadra received a permit to develop a housing society on the land, and the value of the plot increased. He sold it to DLF in June at Rs 58 crore. Suspecting the proceeds to be part of a money laundering scheme, the ED has been probing the trail behind the windfall gains. In October 2012, IAS officer Ashok Khemka (now retired), who was then posted as the Director General of Land Consolidation and Land Records-cum-Inspector-General of Registration of Haryana, cancelled the land purchase deal, citing procedural irregularities. Later in 2013, an in-house government panel gave a clean chit to both Vadra as well as DLF. When the BJP-led government came to power, an FIR was registered by the Haryana Police against former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Robert Vadra and others.
