In the spring of 1993, Costaki Economopoulos was doing graduate work at the University of Georgia. His off time was spent honing his stand-up skills in pizza joints and bars. When he had to turn down a couple of gigs to work on his thesis, it made his stomach hurt. He hung in there and, within a year, was a full-time comic on the road. For more information, click here.

Chicago kicks off Pride Month with powerful brunch event
CHICAGO — Pride Month in Chicago kicked off Sunday with a brunch hosted by Equality Illinois. The event celebrated the LGBTQ+ community and advocated for equality. 'At a very critical moment in our world's history, it's good to know that the fight for justice, the fight for our humanity, still lives on in the soul of this city,' Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said. Mayor Brandon Johnson was one of several friends and allies who filled Venue West for the 2025 Pride Kick-Off Brunch, sharing words of resilience and support. 'Let it be known, in the City of Chicago, we will never flinch or coward or buckle,' Mayor Brandon Johnson said. 'In fact, we will come back even stronger on the other side and our democracy will continue to evolve and Pride Month will always be here.' Mayor Brandon Johnson also mentioned how Chicago has joined a multi-city lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's anti-identity conditions in order to get grants. 'We have been through ups as a community like marriage equality. We have been through downs like the aid's crisis,' Brian Johnson, Equality Illinois' CEO, said. 'It's just a reminder that no matter what is thrown at the queer community, we will be there for each other.' Brian Johnson has led the civil rights organization for the past decade but announced that at the end of the month, he will be stepping down. 'There is no plateau in civil rights. There is no inertia in democracy. We have to constantly be working to maintain your rights and maintain your wins. And I know the organization will continue to do that going forward,' Brian Johnson said. It was announced that Channyn Lynne Parker will serve as interim CEO while the search for a permanent replacement takes place. Kristen Kaza of Slo'Mo and businessman Mark Lieberson were honored for their community work and shown as examples of the continued effort in the fight to maintain wins and defend rights. Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was among the attendees. 'You see this room: people celebrating, not afraid, living their authentic life and really that's what pride is all about,' Lightfoot said. This event kicked off a number of celebrations that run through the month of June, including staples like the city's pride parade, art shows, neighborhood festivals and more. Months-long road closures beginning this week
(WKBN) — Multiple roads throughout Mercer and Columbiana counties will be closed starting Monday for some months-long construction projects. In Springfield Township, Blacktown Road will be closed between State Route 258 and Lee Road beginning Monday to fix the bridge over Interstate 79. The $1.4 million project will repair the concrete deck, add a new surface and pave both sides of the road. Crews will also fix the beams, piers and supports of the bridge. Detours will be posted on site. About 550 vehicles use the bridge every day. The project is expected to be finished by October. In Wilmington Township and New Wilmington Borough, work will begin Monday to improve State Route 158. Traffic will be limited to one lane on State Route 18 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until mid-November. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. The project costs $3.87 million and includes fixing the road, improving drainage, repairing structures, fixing the base, updating guard rails and painting road markings. In Columbiana County, State Route 39 will close Monday for the last phase of a big road repair project. The road will be closed from Steubenville Pike Road to Clarks Mill Road for 60 days. The project will fix almost five miles of S.R. 39 from Salineville to Steubenville Pike Road in Highlandtown. Residents, businesses and property owners can still use the road, but others must use the detours Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Powerball jackpot hit; numbers, winners in Pennsylvania
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — The $204.5 million Powerball jackpot was hit, but unfortunately, it wasn't in Pennsylvania — though several people won money in the Commonwealth. The huge $204.5 million jackpot was hit, once again, in California. This resets the Powerball jackpot to $20 for Monday's drawing (June 2). Winning Numbers: 01 29 37 56 68Powerball: 13 Power Play: 02 Double Play Winning Numbers: 34 44 61 64 68Powerball: 19 While in Pennsylvania, no one won over $100,000, one ticket sold is worth a cool $50,000. While it's unknown where it was sold, as the lottery only reports winners of $100,000 or more, the ticket did match four of the five numbers and the Powerball. If they had Power Play active (02), it would have been worth $100,000. According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, more than 35,000 also won between $4 and $500. According to Powerball officials, two tickets worth $2 million were sold in Florida and New Hampshire — matching all five regular balls with Power Play Monday's Powerball is reset to $20 million, Tuesday's Mega Millions (June 3) is worth an estimated $202 million.
