Flashback Friday: Rapid City seniors pound the pavement
This is not your everyday stroll through the park. These elderly athletes are pounding the pavement for fun, for a little competition, and a lot better health.
'I feel stronger, and my heart keeps pumping better, yeah I love it, I've been walking everyday.'
'That's not unusual for the elderly of 1986 they're very interested and involved in physical fitness.'
Walkers to your marks. Get Set. Go! From the word go there was no stopping them.
Competitors between the ages of 55 and 79 circled the course as part of two days of track and field events, less games like bowling and golf.
Most train all year long, because walking a two mile race isn't easy no matter what the age.
'If you sit in a chair all day and sit at a desk sit in the car well those muscles are slowly dying, if you're out walking, working, using an axe or a shovel or anything that's going to use some muscles and increase the heart rate well you're going to improve your health.'
After winning the race Callahan put his feet up for a quick rest, because in just a few minutes, he'll do it all over again.

Tyjae Spears injury: What Titans RB injury means for team, Tony Pollard, Cam Ward
Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan announced that running back Tyjae Spears will miss "some time" with the ankle injury he sustained in the team's Aug. 9 preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, setting him back for the start of the season. "Spears is expected to miss some time here, a couple of weeks at least," Callahan said the morning after the game. "We're waiting on some final word on a few things, but he will definitely miss some time." Spears limped off the field and had to be carted into the locker room midway through the second quarter of the game in Tampa Bay, coming up hurt after catching a third-down screen pass. The Tennessean spotted Spears leaving the stadium on crutches and wearing a walking boot on his right foot. The Titans were critical of the field conditions in Tampa before and after the game, citing how clear it was that the grass had just been laid down and that the seams in the sod were visible. Injuries limited Spears throughout 2024 as well, when he missed five games. Without Spears, veteran Tony Pollard figures to earn the majority of the Titans' top running back reps, with veteran Julius Chestnut and rookie Kalel Mullings as the likeliest candidates to fill in behind Pollard. More Titans injury updates: Lloyd Cushenberry, L'Jarius Sneed, T'Vondre Sweat Callahan said it's possible that center Lloyd Cushenberry III will get some reps in a return-to-play basis during this week's joint practices against Atlanta, marking his first time in uniform since he injured his Achilles tendon in November. Callahan didn't commit to a timeline for Cushenberry's recovery but said he's encouraged by the development. Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed is not expected to return to practice this week, per Callahan. He's still "in the same process" and is coming along well, per Callahan. Though the coach said he feels Sneed is making progress and in a good spot as he recovers from offseason knee surgery, he said he's not as optimistic about Sneed making his return-to-play move this week as he is about Cushenberry. Defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat is recovering from a tonsillectomy and is expected to return to team activities in the coming days but might not return to the practice field this week as the Titans are giving him time to recuperate from the surgery. Rookie safety Kevin Winston Jr., is questionable for practices this week as the team continues to manage new injuries and soreness associated with his recovery from ACL surgery last fall. The Titans are trying to be patient with Winston, especially with veterans Xavier Woods, Amani Hooker and Quandre Diggs also in the safety group. Offensive lineman Blake Hance should be good to get back to practice soon, per Callahan. Nick Suss is the Titans beat writer for The Tennessean. Contact Nick at nsuss@ Follow Nick on X @nicksuss.
