Brookside star joins Casualty and is already filming scenes
Michael Starke, who played the role of Thomas "Sinbad" Sweeney on the long-running show, is now a cast member for Casualty. The 67-year-old is understood to have already started filming for the medical drama, news that is sure to excite soap fans across the UK. Brookside star Michael Starke signs up for Casualty and has already started filming According to The Sun, Nicola Bolton Management, Michael's representatives, said on Instagram: "Our MICHAEL STARKE @michael_starke_ has been busy down in Cardiff filming on @bbccasualtyofficial @bbc #casualty." This isn't the first time the actor has taken part in other soaps, as he took on the role of Jerry Morton in Coronation Street all the way back in 2007. During his stint on the ITV programme, his character opened up a kebab shop, but left the show after only 18 months. He has also appeared in other shows like Hollyoaks on Channel 4. What was Brookside all about, and when was it axed? According to IMDb , Brookside was a Liverpool-based soap opera which followed the "everyday life and times of the residents, friends, and enemies who live in the fictional suburban street of Brookside Close". The show aired for a staggering 21 years from 1982 until 2003, and is widely considered a classic among fans of British drama. Channel 4 has described the drama as a "ground-breaking" show which dealt with a range of controversial issues, including child abuse, murder, suicide and adultery. Recommended Reading: Brookside came to an end after suffering from declining ratings, shifting channel policies and a perceived decline in creative quality. Many die-hard fans have also blamed this decline on constant changes to the drama's scheduling and the shift to more sensationalist stories later in its run. Casualty can be watched and streamed on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Tokyo-based online broadcaster brings DJs into fish shops and classic cafés
As redevelopment, rising rents and fundamental changes in the city's social fabric put an ever tightening squeeze on traditional shops and eateries across Tokyo, many old-school businesses like neighbourhood greengrocers and fishmongers, worker's caffs and candy stores are becoming endangered species in the urban jungle. But all's far from lost for the capital's mom-and-pop shops, especially with a new generation of techno and house heads now spotlighting their community value. Yup, you read that right: Online music broadcaster new YouTube session series The Shoten has sparked buzz on social media by inviting up-and-coming local DJs to play sets in surroundings such as an antique furniture store in Shimokitazawa and an Akabane fish shop run by the same family for four generations. The crew came up with the idea of channelling the power of tight tunes to champion at-risk sites of urban culture after growing disillusioned with the lack of communication between the Japanese club scene and the wider community. They wanted to bring music and music fans closer to their neighbourhoods and vice versa, encouraging interaction and mutual understanding. These efforts appear to have struck a chord: the first 'Shoten' video, in which Kanta Ando 's chill techno and house tunes soundtrack a morning's comings and goings at the Uoyou fish shop on Akabane's Suzuran-dori shopping street, has racked up over 12,000 views since February. Even more popular is the clip from April featuring Kiyoko spinning deep techno at Yotsuya kissaten Coffee Lawn, a local staple that's been serving up a largely unchanged menu of coffee and snacks for seven decades. In the video, the DJ's beats add an intoxicating touch to the venue's timeless atmosphere. has been releasing new The Shoten videos at a steady pace over the past few months, with six episodes available at the time of writing. In the two newest clips they've taken their show on the road, setting up the decks in a traditional rice storehouse in the city of Takayama, Gifu. With the team hoping to release interviews and documentaries as well as organise live events in the future, we'll be sure to keep a close eye on The Shoten from here on – and very much look forward to stumbling into the middle of a DJ set at our local lunch spot or neighbourhood bathhouse one day. She died last year at the age of 88, leaving behind three children, who will now inherit her fortune. In a statement at the time of her death, their son wrote at the time: "Lady Helen Wogan - 1936-2024. Our beautiful Mum left us last night after a fantastic life. From a young Irish rose to Lady Wogan , she was the epitome of style and grace. "A Mother, Grandmother and Wife, with love and kindness at her core. A strength and a belief that saw her through many of life's trials. A sense of humour and a turn of phrase that would have you in fits of laughter. "A proper lady in every sense of the word. Her and Dad are hopefully sharing a vodka martini and hoping we don't make too much of fuss. We love you Mum, now and forever." Lady Helen left a huge £4,948,334 in her will, with the total being reduced by £31,000 to £4,917,989 following the removal of costs and fees, documents signed off by the High Court reveal. Each of Terry and Helen's grandchildren have also been given a £100,000 trust, which they can access when they turn 25. The rest of their possessions and money will be split between their three living children - Mark, Alan and Katherine. Sir Terry Wogan died of cancer back in January 2016. A family statement, issued by the BBC, said at the time: "Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer. He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time." Terry passed away just a few months after his final show on Radio 2, where he announced he had prostate cancer. He pulled out of Children In Need later that month due to health reasons.
