A 27-year-old suspect shot and killed four individuals, including an off-duty police officer, on Monday at an office building in Midtown Manhattan. The shooting also left a fifth victim critically injured.
According to ABC News, 27-year-old Shane Tamura shot and killed off-duty police officer Didarul Islam, who was working as a security guard for a Midtown Manhattan office building, and three other victims just prior to 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The outlet noted that the suspect, who killed himself during the shooting incident, was armed with an M4 rifle and was wearing body armor.
The office building targeted by Tamura houses the headquarters for the National Football League (NFL) and Blackstone, an investment company, according to ABC News.
According to NBC New York, in addition to the off-duty NYPD officer, Tamura killed Wesley LePatner, a Blackstone executive; Aaland Etienne, a security officer; and an unidentified 27-year-old Rudin Management employee.
The New York Post reported that NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that Tamura had a 'documented mental health history' prior to Monday's shooting incident.

According to Fox News, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Tuesday that the shooting suspect allegedly took the wrong elevator bank inside the Manhattan office building. Adams told reporters, 'It appears as though he was going after the employees at the NFL and that he 'appeared to have gone to the wrong bank and he ended up on the floor of Rudin Management.'
The New York Post reported that police officials discovered a note near Tamura's body that suggested the shooting suspect had a grievance against the NFL. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that while Tamura never played professional football, the 27-year-old suspect blamed football for his alleged issue of chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

In a Tuesday statement on Truth Social, President Donald Trump wrote, 'I have been briefed on the tragic shooting that took place in Manhattan, a place that I know and love. I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence. My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD Officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless the New York Police Department, and God Bless New York!'
The NYPD shared a picture of the police officer killed in Monday's shooting, saying, 'Police Officer Didarul Islam represented the very best of our department. He was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today. We join in prayer during this time of incomprehensible pain. We will forever honor his legacy.'

Chiefs' Rashee Rice gives update on suspension timeline, length

The expectation is that Rashee Rice will be suspended. But when that suspension from the NFL is coming, or for how long it'll be, have yet to be determined for the Kansas City Chiefs' star wide receiver. Rice spoke to ESPN's Nate Taylor on Saturday about the potential punishment for speeding to cause a chain-reaction crash that injured multiple people. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation. On the NFL suspension, Rice said: "Honestly, it's still in the works. My legal team is handling that. All I can do is focus on what I can control right now, and that's me doing what I do best right here on the field." MORE: Micah Parsons breaks silence on his trade request Rice shared how he has grown from his troubles, too. "I learned just how valuable any opportunity and moment is," Rice told ESPN. "This right here, us being able to be on the field and be coached by Coach [Andy] Reid and have such a great quarterback [Patrick Mahomes], is honestly a gift, a blessing. "I've completely changed. Honestly, you have to learn from things like that. I've taken advantage of being able to learn from something like that." Rice was a star as a rookie, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023. He only made it to Week 4 in 2024 before a season-ending injury on a fluky collision. He had 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in less than four full games in 2024. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio also adds: "With the Chiefs' regular-season opener only four weeks and six days away, it's also possible that Rice would be available for Week 1 and beyond, until the case and any potential appeal have been resolved." Denzel Perryman's arrest on felony gun charges could shake up Chargers' defensive plans

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman remained behind bars Saturday after he was taken into custody on weapons charges, authorities said. Los Angeles Sheriff's deputies said multiple guns were discovered during a traffic stop Friday. At least two of the guns found are classified as assault weapons, according to law enforcement. "On August 1, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., South Los Angeles Station deputies conducted a traffic stop on Los Angeles Chargers football player Denzel Perryman, 32, for vehicle code violations," the sheriff's department said in a statement. "During the traffic stop, deputies discovered five firearms in Mr. Perryman's vehicle, two of which were assault-style rifles." The NFL veteran was cooperative with authorities during the traffic stop, according to an incident report. Perryman was booked on felony charges shortly after 10 p.m., records say. He is being held without bond at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station, the sheriff's department confirmed. Ron Butler, Perryman's agent, said the Pro Bowl defender was in contact with legal experts. "Denzel and our team are still gathering information and working closely with legal counsel," Butler told ESPN. "While I can't speak to the details at this time, we're confident things will be handled appropriately through the legal process." Perryman is scheduled to appear at Inglewood Court Tuesday, the sheriff's department said. "We are aware of a matter involving Denzel and are gathering information," the team said in a statement. Perryman played for the Chargers from 2017-20 and returned to the team in 2024. Perryman also had stints with the Houston Texans and the Las Vegas Raiders.
