A man was shot by police during an alleged burglary in East Hollywood Thursday morning.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to the 500 block of North Alexandria Avenue around 4:10 a.m. after receiving calls of a burglary that was in progress.
Officers found a man on the second floor of an apartment complex. He had entered an occupied apartment and armed himself with a knife, police said.
When officers tried to approach him, he allegedly began throwing planters at them. The LAPD said officers fired less-than-lethal rounds, but they had no effect on the man. As he kept approaching the officers, a shooting took place.
He was struck by gunfire and was taken into custody. No officers were injured during the incident.

A retired police detective's skeletal remains have been found inside her rural Connecticut home filled with hoarding conditions seven months after she was reported missing. The remains of 73-year-old Mary Notarangelo were discovered in February after work crews arrived at her rural Connecticut home to remove piles of trash accumulated from the retired detective's hoarding behavior, according to the Glastonbury Police Department. Notarangelo was last heard from around June 12, 2024, when she texted a friend to say she was suffering from abdominal cramps and vomiting and had fallen. Approximately three weeks later, the friend called the police to request a welfare check. Seven months later, on Feb. 24, an environmental services crew was called to Notarangelo's home to begin removing the "mountains" of garbage. Notarangelo's skeletal remains were discovered after workers used a small excavator to shovel a large pile of debris from behind her front door. Authorities have not provided a reason why it took over half a year to find Notarangelo's remains, though officials pointed to the large amount of trash in her home. Glastonbury police said conditions in the home were among the worst they have seen and complicated attempts to locate Notarangelo. Officials reported finding cages of dead birds, a live cat and mice within the home, which also had a terrible stench. "Once inside, I observed more mountains of garbage, cobwebs and spiders," Officer Anthony Longo reported. "There was no path whatsoever. The only way to move from room to room was by climbing over the garbage." Local authorities conducted their first search of the home on July 3, 2024, but were unable to locate Notarangelo, citing hoarding piles as the primary factor. A drone was also deployed into the house, but ultimately struck cobwebs and was disabled, according to police. Additional searches were conducted on July 5, July 11, July 12 and Nov. 20, but Notarangelo was never found. "It's so upsetting and so sad," said Patti Steeves, a friend of Notarangelo's who previously worked at the Bridgeport Police Department as a civilian employee. "She, as quirky as she was, was a good person at heart." Steeves revealed she had made attempts to speak with her friend about the hoarding, but Notarangelo did not want to discuss the issue. Notarangelo was also a "bird fanatic" and had about 20 birds, along with a cat and dog, her friend said. Notarangelo worked with the Bridgeport police from 1985 to 1996, and was promoted to detective in 1992 and to sergeant a year later, according to the department. She later retired on disability following an on-duty car crash, Steeves said. Notarangelo's cause of death could not be determined because her remains were primarily skeletal, the state medical examiner's office said. The Glastonbury Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Family of ‘much-loved brother and father' appeal for information over his murder
The family of a 'much-loved son, brother and father' who was shot dead in north London have appealed for information about his murder. Mahad Abdi Mohamed, 27, died after being shot in the head in Waverley Road, Tottenham, at 8.45pm on March 20, the Metropolitan Police said. DCI Rebecca Woodsford said the suspects got out of a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander, which was later recovered burned out, and fired the gunshots which killed him. Police previously said they had arrested four adult men on suspicion of murder who were subsequently bailed. DCI Woodsford, the senior investigating officer into the murder, said Mr Abdi Mohamed was a 'much-loved son, brother and father', adding that his family were 'devastated' by the murder. Appealing for information, DCI Woodsford said: 'We believe he is a completely innocent person in this and actually this is a case of mistaken identity. 'I believe this was a pre-planned shooting, although I also believe that Mahad was killed mistakenly, those suspects were out that night to murder someone and cause serious harm. 'And I truly believe that somebody does know some information about this.' The police officer added: 'If you think you have information about the people that could be involved, the people that might have helped or burned the vehicle out, I'm appealing for people to come forward. 'What's crucial to us are witnesses and ultimately we need that evidence to place before the Crown Prosecution Service, and be able to charge people and put them in front of the courts.' Mr Abdi Mohamed's younger sister, Amal Abdi Mohamed, 23, said he was a 'loving father' to his son and was planning to get married in the summer. She added that her brother had worked at Waterloo Station, as well as part-time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Royal Ascot as a security worker. Appealing for information on her brother's death, the 23-year-old said: 'My beloved brother is gone, and we still don't know why. 'Someone knows what happened to him, and yet we are here with no answer, no justice, and just a family torn apart trying to navigate through the pain. 'He was taken away from us through gun violence. A bullet didn't just take his life, it tore through our family, through our heart and it's truly shocking, it's devastating, and it's so senseless, because this type of violence should never be normal. 'It should never be something a family ever has to expect, prepare for, or live with.' Amal said Mr Abdi Mohamed was the 'kind of person who can light up any room without even trying'. She added: 'He had this rare gift of making people feel seen, heard and loved, and if you were having a bad day, you would just want to be around him. 'He was funny, he was honest, and he was just a good person.' Many of Mr Abdi Mohamed's family members were in tears as they visited the scene of his murder as part of the appeal for information. Amal said that Mr Abdi Mohamed's five-year-old son 'looked up to him like a superhero'. She added: 'How do you look at a child who adored him day and night, and tell them that he's gone and you don't have the answers why? That boy will have to grow up with no dad. 'If you think you may know anything or have seen anything – you may think it doesn't matter, but it might be the key to giving us an answer, and it might be the thing that finally lets our family take a breath.
