Jaipur: Rajasthan's much-anticipated urban local body (ULB) elections under the 'One State, One Election' (OSOE) plan, initially expected around Oct–Nov, are now likely to be held in Dec.
This was confirmed by urban development and housing (UDH) minister Jhabar Singh Kharra Tuesday.
Speaking to TOI, Kharra said the ongoing delimitation of municipal wards would conclude by the end of July. The state govt will then write to the State Election Commission in the first week of Aug to start updating the electoral rolls. "The commission is expected to finalise the voters' list by Oct, and elections will be held either in a single phase or multiple phases, depending on logistical convenience," Kharra said.

Minister orders action in Rs 25 lakh fraud
Khanna: Punjab rural development and panchayat minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sond ordered strict action after a scam involving Rs 25 lakh in the installation of solar lights surfaced in Khanna block. Investigations confirmed irregularities amounting to Rs 24.52 lakh in this project. Siddique challenges arrest in land grab cases, seeks release
Panaji: Land grab accused Suleman Mohammed Khan, also known as Siddique , filed a petition in the high court challenging his arrest in the four FIRs registered against him at the Mapusa, Valpoi and Old Goa police stations as illegal, and seeking his release. The last FIR against him pertains to alleged land-grabbing and escape from custody. He submitted to the HC that he was illegally detained in custody despite no prima facie evidence justifying the necessity for his continued detention. Through his lawyer Sahil Sardessai, he submitted that his continued custody was grossly unlawful as the initial arrest was in violation of the constitutional mandate under Article 22 (1) and statutory rights guaranteed to him. The 54-year-old is seeking a declaration of his arrest as illegal and quashing of the subsequent remand orders in the four FIRs pertaining to him. He submitted to the HC that the authorities failed to comply with constitutional and statutory safeguards and did not communicate the grounds of arrest to him. AIADMK protests as police remove banners welcoming EPS
Trichy: Cadres of the AIADMK held a demonstration before the Srirangam police station on Tuesday, after the banners the party had erected to welcome party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami , were taken down. Party cadres had put up the banners in Srirangam area. However, police removed them on the night of Aug 18, citing the Madras high court order and the risk of strong winds causing the banners to fall. In response, around a hundred cadres led by former minister and AIADMK's suburban north district secretary M Paranjothi besieged the Srirangam police station, leading to tension in the area. Former minister S Valarmathi and former govt chief whip R Manoharan were also present. Police pacified and held talks with them. During the talks, police cited the high court's order banning digital banners. "Our party respects the court orders," Paranjothi said, agreeing to abide by them. Speaking to reporters later, Paranjothi condemned the govt, and said, "The ruling party is unable to tolerate the overwhelming public support for our general secretary and is hence creating hindrances." Paranjothi said the party had requested the police to cooperate and ensure the tour proceeds smoothly, and provide adequate security. He said, "Police had assured necessary protection for the event to ensure its smooth and successful conduct." Palaniswami is visiting Trichy district to campaign in a total of nine assembly constituencies over from Aug 23 to 25 as part of his 'Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom' campaign.
