Rachel Riley's packing hack to fit over 700 summer holiday looks in one suitcase
Rachel Riley has explained her favourite packing hack, which can help you fit 700 different looks into one suitcase.
The Countdown star has harnessed the power of maths to make sure she always looks fresh and on point when jetting off abroad. According to Rachel, the packing hack transforms three simple outfits into over 700 unique looks.
This may well come in handy for families heading on holiday, as the average two-child family packs 48 outfits for a seven-day trip, according to one recent poll. Research from handheld steamer experts Philips also found that, despite typically spending £200 on new holiday clothes, most of us (42%) will only wear half of what we pack.
Philips enlisted the help of mum-of-two Rachel to encourage the nation to pack smarter for their holidays this summer — using just three different tops and three different bottoms.
'That makes nine distinct looks,' she explains. 'Chuck in three pairs of shoes and you're already up to 27 individual outfits.
'With every added optional accessory, you increase your options. So, just two additional choices of headwear, two statement necklaces, and two pairs of sunglasses give you over 700 unique combinations to choose from.'
The world of travel hacks is big social media business. Former flight attendant Beth Windsor recent shared her cleverest tips and tricks for flying comfortably with Business Insider. One is bringing a pair of hotel slippers on board to change into after take-off.
According to Windsor, a must-have travel item is a pair of cheap hotel slippers, as they are comfortable enough to wear on a flight and can be conveniently disposed of on board. 'I also wear slippers when I walk to and from the bathroom,' shared Windsor.
She alludes to the unhygienic nature of the aeroplane being a strong motivator: 'After being flight crew, I'll never ever go into a plane restroom without something more substantial than socks on my feet."
Comfort is certainly a priority on any flight, but especially on long-haul journeys. Many passengers end up taking their shoes off at some point to allow their feet room to breathe.
But while you may feel more comfortable with your shoes off, other passengers might find it a bit offensive. For that reason, a pair of slippers may be a smarter compromise than bare feet and socks.
A particularly hot travel tips at the moment is the clothes roll. This smart technique was shown off on TikTok by @joanna. pirog, who ditched her organising cubes for a better, cheaper approach when preparing for a getaway.
She demonstrated with an unfilled suitcase surrounded by clothes she intended to take; she rolled each item tightly and methodically popped them into the bag.
She managed to fit a selection of dresses, tops, t-shirts, skirts and shorts with room to spare and, despite appearing full, Joanna found space for even more by wedging them into small crevices.
According to her, rolling clothes meant she could get three months' worth of belongings into just one small suitcase.

It's the middle of July, and it's absolutely dead. 'Normally at this time of year, Benidorm's mental – it's busy, there are people absolutely everywhere. 'I've just been walking down the beach; no one. 'I've been down the Benidorm strip; hardly anyone there. 'Bars aren't even that busy – what's going on? 'Is everyone going to Tenerife now? I've only been away a week.' Harry, from Brighton, said that he 'can't believe' how quiet it is. 'Is it just me that feels this way? Especially the accommodation. 'Everything this year has gone so much more than last year. 'I'm not the only one that feels this way.' One comment which says that it costs almost £1,000 for a single room for a week, to which Harry said: 'Ouch, that's got to hurt. 'Don't get me wrong – eating out, drinking, all those sorts of things are still very reasonable, especially price-wise compared to the UK. 'Everything has got really expensive; not just in Benidorm, but in general. 'Is Benidorm falling off? Or is it just the world in general? 'Mad, really – what are holidays? What's a cheap holiday now?'

Flight attendant urges people to stop wearing popular clothing on the plane
A flight attendant named Cher has shared the one clothing item you should leave in your bag and 'never' wear on a plane - and it might make you want to rethink your outfit for your next flight Choosing the perfect outfit for air travel can be a real headache. While things like jeans feels incredibly restricting and uncomfortable to sit in for hours on end, you risk catching a chill if you wear shorts and flip-flops during your journey instead. If this sounds like your predicament, you'll be happy to know that one TikTok creator named Cher, who also happens to be a seasoned flight attendant with over six years' experience, recently shared her insider knowledge with her 24,000 followers. She posted her optimal travel outfit formula, highlighting specific garments that passengers should pack away rather than sport on travel day. "Outfits I surprisingly approve of as a flight attendant," Cher said at the start of her TikTok video before jumping in to her list of tips and tricks. The first thing she said was that wearing shorts aboard aircraft should be 'banned' since it exposes your skin to the 'disgusting' seating - having previously disclosed how infrequently they receive proper cleaning. Instead, she went on to share how you should think when planning your travel outfit, which can be adapted to anyone's tastes. Flight attendant's perfect travel outfit Cher's recommended look features relaxed, comfortable trousers, trainers, a simple tee and a jumper that shields your shoulders. This formula works equally well for both gents and ladies, utilising any suitable items from your existing wardrobe. "This is the perfect travel outfit no matter what," she declared. It ensures you appear presentable whilst remaining cosy and shielded from the 'revolting' seats and frequently frigid cabin atmosphere. Should this ensemble not appeal to you, alternatives exist. Cher suggests the following..... Maxi dresses The first alternative is wearing a long maxi dress that covers your legs – and Cher showed the iconic Skims black maxi dress as an example. "Any variation of a long dress like this is cute, and your legs are covered, they're not touching the seat," she added. With this, she suggests adding a pair of trainers and a cardigan or jumper for added comfort. Long skirts Her next alternative is to ditch the dress or trousers and instead wear a long skirt, possibly with a matching top. Giving an example, she explained: "Would I have my toes out? Absolutely not. But with sneakers, this would be perfect." Cher continued by saying that any version of a coordinated ensemble featuring a lengthy skirt paired with a matching top creates an excellent appearance for those wanting to look polished at the airport whilst remaining comfortable. So there you have it - some simple outfit suggestions for air travel!
