'Supporting Pakistan...': Congress's 'Gayab' Jibe At PM Modi Makes Unity Mask Vanish In Massive Row
Last Updated:
The controversy over 'gayab' poster got murkier when BJP held a press conference and elaborated on the "sar tan se juda ideology of Lashkar-e-Pakistan (Congress)".
The Congress' gayab or missing poster aimed to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Pahalgam terror attack backfired hours after the party released it on its social media handles on Tuesday. From former Pakistani minister's reaction raising eyebrows to drawing parallel to calls of ' sar tan se juda ' during Nupur Sharma's controversy — the Congress post drew sharp reaction. Leaders said that at a time when all need to be united on stand of Pahalgam terror attack, the Congress is being 'influenced by Pakistan".
In the immediate aftermath of the strike, the Opposition's response has been measured. The political parties have been walking the fine line of offering unconditional backing to the government in whatever action it took against the perpetrators and their handlers — even as they subtly flagged intelligence and security lapses.
The Congress leaders, however, have been giving statements that forced the grand old party to issue a gag order.
While BJP leaders had been lashing out at Congress since morning, a reaction from the central government came when Chirag Paswan reacted.
Paswan, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, said, 'This is wrong. This is a very sensitive issue and it is the responsibility of the opposition to understand the sensitivity of the issue. It is the need of the hour to show seriousness, as shown by J&K CM Omar Abdullah in the Assembly. If parties like the Congress do politics on it, this is not good."
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, delivering his first speech in the House since the attack, said, 'For the first time in many years, I witnessed protests that were truly unified. No political party or leader orchestrated them, and no organised banners or candlelight marches were planned. The outrage and grief were spontaneous, coming straight from the hearts of the people. Every mosque observed silence."
Abdullah admitted he failed in his duty to ensure the safe return of tourists and acknowledged feeling helpless. The Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning the incident and pledging to thwart the designs of terrorists.
The BJP held a press conference later in the day, with party leader Gaurav Bhatia elaborating on the 'sar tan se juda" ideology of 'Lashkar-e-Pakistan (Congress)".
'There is a national political party that stays among us, but if we call them Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress, it won't be wrong. This image of PM Narendra Modi has been tweeted by the social media handle of Congress. A strong message has been given to Pakistan that in India, the supporters of Mir Jafar are present here…'Sar tan se juda' has become the ideology of Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress today…Such posts are done on the instructions of Rahul Gandhi, which makes the country ashamed. It is an attempt of Lashkar-e-Pakistan Congress to weaken India at such a sensitive time," he said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party's official X handle also recalled the 'san tan se juda' imagery, and dubbed Congress 'Muslim League 2.0'. 'Terror will be met with bullets, not biryani. This is the era of decisive leadership," the BJP said.
The Congress now seems to be following its plan of 2016 and 2019. In the wake of 2016's Pathankot and Uri attacks, and the Pulwama attack in 2019, the Congress had aggressively targeted the government, talking about failures, and argued that ministers concerned could not shrug off responsibility and accountability.

Bengal clashes: Suvendu Adhikari demands compensation for vandalised shops
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has demanded compensation for shopkeepers whose shops were vandalised in the Rabindra Nagar area of Maheshtala (South 24 Parganas). This comes after clashes erupted between two groups in the area on June 11, which left several police and locals injured and many cars and shops vandalised. Standing outside the West Bengal Legislative Assembly along with other Bhartiya Janta Party leaders on June 13, Mr Adhikari said that adequate compensation should be ensured for victims. 'They vandalised shops, cars, looted shops of 'Hindus', the 'other' community has done the same thing in Samserganj and Suti,' Mr Adhikari said. This came in reference to the communal riots in Murshidabad in April. The LoP also announced that BJP MLAs will participate in a protest against the Maheshtala violence on June 14 right outside the Assembly premises. He also alleged that they are not being 'allowed' to discuss the matter inside the Assembly. 'Our representatives will go to Rabindra Nagar on Saturday, including MLA Agnimitra Paul. If they stop us, we will protest wherever they stop us,' Mr Adhikari added. He also said that they will spend their own MLA salaries to offer medical assistance to the people who have been injured in the communal clashes in Rabindra Nagar. He also offered to pay for any other assistance that the affected 'Hindus' may need stating that the party will never 'abandon' one of their own. Violence broke out in Ward No. 7, Maheshtala, on Wednesday morning, reportedly over the setting up of a shop. The situation took a communal turn following allegations of an attack on a place of worship. Tensions escalated rapidly as two groups clashed, pelting stones and attacking police personnel. The police resorted to tear gas shelling and baton charges to disperse the crowd. Till now the West Bengal Police have arrested 40 people in connection with the violence. Seven FIRs have also been filed. The State BJP accused the police of trying to 'whitewash a communal attack' and sought the deployment of Central forces. The ruling Trinamool Congress, in turn, accused the BJP of trying to incite communal passions. Mr Adhikari met Governor C.V. Ananda Bose and also moved the Calcutta High Court on June 12 asking for Central Force deployment in the violence-hit areas.

Modi At Plane Crash Site: Heartbreaking, beyond words says PM
Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday and visited the site of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash that killed 241 people a day earlier, one of the worst air disasters in recent times. The Prime Minister arrived at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport and drove straight to the crash site in the Meghaninagar area, officials said. He was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Modi visited the C7 ward of the hospital, where 25 injured people are undergoing treatment. He also met the lone survivor of the crash - Indian-origin British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Modi, who served as Gujarat Chief Minister for 12 years, earlier said he was "stunned" by the tragedy. "It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected," he said on X on Thursday. The crash took place seconds after AI 171 took off for London Gatwick airport from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Officials said the flight lost altitude soon after taking off at around 1.30pm, before crashing into the residential quarters of BJ Medical College doctors in Meghaninagar area and going up in flames, sending plumes of thick black smoke spiralling up in the air.
