Tipra Motha activists attack BJP workers while latter were listening to PM Modi's ‘Mann ki Baat' program; 9 injured
Asked about the incident, an officer at the state police headquarters in Agartala said, 'As per our latest reports, nine people were injured. A case will be lodged at the local police station and legal action will be taken.'
Reacting to the attack, BJP tribal leader Bipin Debbarma said, 'Our supporters and leaders were listening to PM Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' program, when they were attacked by hooligans from the Tipra Motha party who were armed with machetes, axes, and country-made guns. They intended to murder BJP supporters. At least 10 to 15 motorcycles were damaged in the incident, and two cars sustained heavy damage.'
The tribal leader said a detailed report of the incident has been sent to Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and state BJP chief Rajib Bhattacharya, and they have assured to bring the culprits to book and provide necessary treatment to the injured.
Sunit Sarkar, Media In-Charge, BJP Tripura unit, told media persons that Tipra Motha minister Animesh Debbarma was looking into the matter. Animesh Debbarma is the local Asharambari MLA.
Meanwhile, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma went 'Live' on Facebook and criticised his own party workers for the attack.
'I don't want political violence in Tripura. If tribals keep fighting each other in the name of flags, one day flags will be all that's left, land will be lost. You can do politics two months before the elections. Till then, keep thansa (unity) as tribals… Politics of violence will not give us anything,' Pradyot Kishore said.
Pradyot Kishore then said that Naga people are united across party lines, but tribals in Tripura are not united.
He also alleged that former CPM leaders are joining the BJP and the Tipra Motha and are trying to foment a crisis, and urged both parties to stay wary of such political elements.
Speaking to indianexpress.com, he later said, 'I don't want our party's name to be dragged into such conflicts. If anything, Tipra Motha and the BJP should come together and fight against illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar.'

'Read History': Supriya Sule Schools BJP's Tejasvi Surya In Lok Sabha Over Nehru Claim
Last Updated: The BJP MP from Bengaluru South alleged that the Congress Party has prioritised weakening India's military capabilities through systemic and deliberate policies Nationalist Congress Party (SCP) MP Supriya Sule on Monday hit out at BJP MP Tejasvi Surya over a claim that 'Jawaharlal Nehru never encouraged the defence forces." Speaking in the Lok Sabha during the debate on Operation Sindoor, Sule asked Surya to read up the history and said, 'When it comes to the country, the country comes first, then the state, then the party, then the family." 'I would like to tell Tejasvi Surya and put it on record, he said that Jawaharlal Nehruji, the first Prime Minister of India, never encouraged the defence forces and we have never done anything, this is the first time India has done exceptionally well in its armed forces. He has not only insulted thousands and lakhs of Indian force and armies and their families who have stood so that you and I can be safe. I object to the statement that he has made… Tejasvi Surya, if you haven't read history, then read it," she added. The Baramati MP further said, 'When we got a call from Kiren Rijiju, he just told me on the phone that Supriya, you will have to give 10 days for the country… It was the greatness of the Prime Minister that he showed faith in the opposition leaders to lead the delegations… At the all-party meeting, the Congress party was the first to say that the Congress party and the entire opposition will stand with Narendra Modi's government with full strength." In his speech, the BJP MP from Bengaluru South alleged that the Congress Party has prioritised weakening India's military capabilities through systemic and deliberate policies. 'From 1947 to the present, the Congress Party has prioritised weakening India's military capabilities through systemic and deliberate policies – Nehru even said the country did not require an army and dismissed the modernisation of the armed forces as rubbish," he said. Sule Questions Govt On Pahalgam The NCP-SP MP questioned the government's handling of Operation Sindoor, saying it cannot be called a success until the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack are caught. 'Sindoor is not a success till you find those terrorists. Until you catch the terrorists, it cannot be celebrated," Sule said. She requested External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to reflect on international calls for de-escalation and asked why there is still no clarity on the outcome of the military response. She referred to the anguish of victims' families, recounting how one person from her area repeatedly asked her, 'When will my father get justice?" The NCP-SP leader said once seen as a paradise, Kashmir has now become a nightmare for many and that compensation without jobs or accountability is inadequate. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 22:23 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Tharoor silenced, Pakistan defended: BJP MP Baijayant Panda's swipe at Congress
NEW DELHI: BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda on Monday took a dig at the Congress, saying the party is not allowing its own member and noted orator Shashi Tharoor to speak in Lok Sabha. Participating in a special discussion in the House on 'India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam', Panda alleged that the Congress governments on a number of occasions surrendered India's interests. "There are several leaders in your (Congress) party who can speak well... My friend Shashi Tharoor Ji, who is a good speaker, is not allowed to speak by his party," he said, adding that Tharoor had earlier spoken in the interest of the country. According to sources, the Congress asked its Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor if he was interested in speaking during the debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, but the latter declined. There has been intense speculation on whether Tharoor, who led a delegation to the US, among other countries, will be picked as a speaker by the Congress given his enthusiastic endorsement of the government's action following the Pahalgam terror attack, which reportedly soured his ties with the party. The approach of the Congress governments in the past was only to increase cooperation with Pakistan and not to retaliate and teach them a lesson, Panda, who was among the MPs leading the seven multi-party delegations to convey India's message of zero tolerance against terrorism in May, said. The Kendrapara (Odisha) MP said that Operation Sindoor was an attack on terrorists in Pakistan, and not on civilians. "This is not a reaction, this is Modi's doctrine, which Pakistan has understood… This is a new normal," he said, adding that it is shameful that the opposition only questions Indian armed forces and not Pakistan.
