Andhra Pradesh government launches Naksha to revolutionize urban planning and property taxation
GUNTUR: In a move to improve the planning of urban areas and remove personal discretion taxation of properties, the state govt has launched survey of properties under the National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey (
Naksha
).
The Centre, which is sponsoring Naksha programme, has picked 10 municipalities under pilot project following the state govt's request. While the aerial survey was completed in eight of the ten municipalities, aerial survey is going on in
Eluru
and
Mangalagir-Tadepalli
municipal corporations.
"Naksha is going to bring revolutionary changes in the urban areas particularly with regard to planning of developmental works, granting of building plans, prevention of manual intervention in taxation of properties," said municipal administration and urban development minister Dr P Narayana.
Speaking at the digitalisaiton of land records programme, Narayana said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to fully develop the nation through Vikasit Bharat, while chief minister Chandrababu Naidu targeted to develop the state as Swarnandhra by 2047.
He explained that the Naksha program will greatly contribute in providing transparent and efficient governance in urban areas. He said that the Centre has selected 10 municipalities for implementation of Naksha programme under pilot project.
"We will survey and digitize about 9.5 lakh properties spread across 524 square kilometers in 10 municipalities. We wanted to complete the survey as per the timelines fixed by the Centre," said Narayana. He said that every property including residential, commercial and industrial outlets will be accurately mapped through Naksha.
He said that a re-survey of 6,000 government properties at the field level has also been completed in Kuppam, Ongole, and Anantapur municipalities. He said that they have deployed 156 rovers against the actual requirement of 166 rovers. He explained that they have trained about 643 verification teams needed for the field-level survey. "The Naksha program will enhance urban planning tools and tax imposition. In fact, it will also help resolution of property disputes," said Narayana.
He said that they have directed the municipal commissioners and district collectors to coordinate with the Central teams for early completion of the property surveys. He said that the state govt would extend the programme in other municipal corporations and municipalities after studying the results of the pilot project.

The survey number in the certificate submitted to the Supreme Court as a deemed forest also includes houses, government schools, government buildings, and land plots. Telangana government proposes to expand metro rail in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD : The Telangana government has decided to expand Metro Rail network here by over 86 kms. Briefing reporters on Thursday night after the state cabinet meeting, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said it was decided to propose to the Centre to take up the metro rail expansion at a cost of Rs 19,579 crore in partnership with the state. He urged Union Ministers from Telangana G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar and BJP Lok Sabha member from Malkajgiri Eatala Rajender to persuade the Centre to agree to the proposal. The cabinet also decided to name the proposed earth sciences university in Bhadradri-Kothagudem after late prime minister Manmohan Singh. Singh was instrumental in the formation of Telangana during the previous UPA regime, the minister recalled. The cabinet decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the kin in the event of accidental death of a woman Self-Help Group (SHG) member, he said. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who was also present at the press conference, said the cabinet decided to release a Dearness Allowance (DA) to the state government employees immediately and give another DA after six months. Vikramarka, who heads a cabinet sub-committee on issues of employees, said a trust would be formed on the issue of health cards of employees. Every employee would contribute Rs 500 per month and the government would contribute an equal amount in a year. The amount would be assigned to the proposed trust which would be headed by the Chief Secretary. It will have the representatives of employees, he said.

The Centre debunked claims that the ₹500 currency note will be discontinued by next year, trying to calm the panic among the people caused by the claim. The panic over the future of currency notes began recently when a video on YouTube went viral over the past few days, claiming that the ₹500 notes will be phased out starting March 2026. The 12-minute-long video, uploaded on a channel named Capital TV and gaining more than five lakh views since June 2, triggered confusion and panic among people. The union government responded to the claims through the Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-check unit, saying the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not made any such announcement. The Indian government's official fact-checking agency also advised people not to fall victim to any kind of misinformation and always verify any claims made. " ₹500 notes have NOT been discontinued and remain legal tender. Always verify news from official sources before believing or sharing it," PIB's post on social media platform X reads. The ₹500 notes currently in circulation were introduced after the government announced demonetisation of the old ₹500 and ₹1000 notes in November 2016. The current note is 66mm x 150mm and comes in stone grey colour. The back of it has a picture of the Red Fort, complying with the theme of Indian heritage sites. The current ₹500 notes continue to have their amount written in 17 languages, like all the other notes in circulation. These languages include English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had demonetised the previous ₹500 notes, along with the ₹1000 notes, in a televised address on November 8, 2016. The government had billed it as a measure to fight corruption in the country and address the issue of counterfeit banknotes. The news notes came into circulation a couple of days later. The RBI had also introduced the new ₹2,000 currency note during the demonetisation exercise. However, those notes were withdrawn from circulation in May 2023. Despite being withdrawn, the ₹2000 notes remain legal tender.
