Congress carrying out 'false' propaganda on Census 2027 out of frustration: BJP
The
BJP
on Tuesday alleged that the
Congress
is carrying out false and misleading propaganda on
Census 2027
because its hope of gaining power by creating division in society is falling apart with the Narendra Modi-led government's decision to include caste enumeration in the nationwide exercise.
Terming the government's notification on the 16th census a "damp squib", the Congress on Monday said it is silent on the inclusion of caste in the exercise and asked whether this is another "U-turn" by the government.
The Home Ministry noted that some misleading information, which stated that there was no mention of caste count in the gazette notification, was being spread and later asserted that the Census 2027 would include caste enumeration.

Lambasting the Congress for "misleading" people with false claims, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that the prime objective of the opposition party by resorting to such a "petty" act is to create confusion in society and gain power.
Since it is witnessing its objective falling apart, the Congress has resorted to spreading "falsehood, deception and lies", he told reporters at the BJP headquarters here.
Live Events
Trivedi said the press releases issued by the government had clearly mentioned that along with the census, a socio-economic assessment and
caste census
would also be conducted.
"Marred by its myopic view and blurred vision, rather a motivated nefarious vision, however, they (Congress) are unable to see what is categorically explained in the Modi government's decision to conduct the census," he charged.
They are running completely false and misleading propaganda because they feel that their hopes are not being fulfilled, the Rajya Sabha MP added.
Trivedi alleged that the Congress has always resorted to vote bank politics in the name of caste but did nothing for the backward communities.
"The party decided to stop the caste census (enumeration) in 1951 and did not allow the Kaka Kalekar Commission report and the Mandal Commission report to be released," he said.
With the 'Sabka saath, sabka vishwas' mantra, Trivedi said, the
NDA government
under
Prime Minister Modi
's leadership wants to conduct a census with caste enumeration to ensure "recognition of all castes, respect for all castes and upliftment of the most backward castes".
On the contrary, the leaders of the Congress and "
INDI Alliance
" only want the upliftment of their families by creating division in the society on caste lines, the
BJP leader
charged.
"In 2022, our alliance government in Bihar decided to conduct a caste survey in the state," the BJP leader said.
Trivedi also raised questions over the
Congress government
's decision to conduct a fresh caste survey in Karnataka and asked whether the previous survey conducted with an expenditure of Rs 165 crore was erroneous.

Congress begins restructuring of block units across Rajasthan
The Opposition Congress in Rajasthan has initiated an organisational exercise to constitute block committees across all Assembly constituencies and fill vacant posts in a bid to strengthen the party's structure ahead of the local body elections. While 80% of the block committees have been formed, the appointment of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents will be carried out by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Govind Singh Dotasra, who met Assembly coordinators from the State's seven divisions on Monday and Tuesday, said that a list of booth-level agents would be finalised within the next seven days. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had directed the State leadership during the Samvidhan Bachao rally held on April 28 to complete all pending appointments within two months. Mr. Dotasra said the party would allocate 50% of tickets in the upcoming urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections to candidates below the age of 50. 'This will help us in confronting the Bharatiya Janata Party government which is neither focused on people's welfare nor interested in continuing the schemes launched by the previous [Congress] regime,' he said. Around two dozen Pradesh Congress cells and departments, which were dissolved during the 2020 political crisis triggered by former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot's rebellion, are yet to be reconstituted. Though eight new district units were created in April, their respective heads are yet to be appointed. Mr. Dotasra said City Congress units would be set up in all 249 Municipal Council areas across the State, aimed at reinforcing the party's presence at the grassroots level. These units will encompass both urban and rural regions within the blocks, with committee formation expected to be completed before June 28. The PCC chief stated that the party had collected feedback on the activities of Assembly coordinators, their constituency visits, meeting attendance by senior leaders, and the public issues raised by elected representatives in panchayats and local bodies. This input, he said, would aid in achieving the organisational targets within the stipulated time. Mr. Dotasra held one-on-one interactions with coordinators from Jaipur, Udaipur, and Kota divisions on Monday, and with those from Bharatpur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner divisions on Tuesday. He directed them to follow the party's schedule of activities and ensure that block committees play a key role in the forthcoming local body and panchayat elections.

Kananaskis G7 Summit: Modi to meet Canadian PM Carney to 'reset' ties
Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's crucial meeting with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, where the two leaders are expected to 'reset' bilateral ties, he is also slated to have meetings with the leaders of Germany, Italy and Ukraine on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Canada's Kananaskis. However, Modi will not get an opportunity to discuss the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), which is in the works, with Donald Trump as the US President left the G7 Summit early because of the unfolding tensions in West Asia. New Delhi was hopeful of a Modi-Trump meeting on the sidelines of the Summit, their first since February when the Indian PM had travelled to Washington to meet Trump weeks after the inauguration of the latter's presidency. It was also to be their first meeting after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor that India had launched against terror infrastructure in Pakistan. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he mediated between India and Pakistan to defuse the crisis, and that he used trade as a negotiating tool to clinch a peace deal. India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has consistently disputed these claims. Trump held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the Summit but failed to reach an agreement on a trade package. The US President also met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and signed a document as a follow-up on the trade framework agreed in May. Modi landed in Calgary on Tuesday morning (IST), his first visit to Canada in over a decade. He will take part in the G7 Outreach Summit Session and hold bilateral meetings. 'Landed in Calgary, Canada, to take part in the G7 Summit. Will be meeting various leaders at the Summit and sharing my thoughts on important global issues. Will also be emphasising the priorities of the Global South,' Modi said in a post on X on Tuesday morning. Modi is on a four-day tour to Cyprus, Canada and Croatia. "The PM will be participating in G7 discussions on the future of energy security, including diversification, technology, infrastructure and investment, to ensure access and affordability in a changing world. The PM will also hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X. Other issues likely to be discussed at the G7 Outreach Summit and during the PM's bilateral meetings with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni include the situation in West Asia, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and ensuring the supply of critical minerals. According to government sources, a meeting is also planned with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President. The Kananaskis gathering on June 16-17 is Modi's 6th consecutive participation in the G7 Summit. The PM is also set to raise the issue of terrorism and seek support of G7 member countries in the context of the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22. Carney's invitation to Modi to attend the Summit signalled the new Canadian government's intent to repair ties with New Delhi that plummeted to an all-time low over the killing of pro-Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The two sides are expected to announce a new initiative to combat cross-border crimes.
