Gadwal Officials Mobilize Precautionary Measures to Curb Seasonal Diseases Ahead of Monsoon
Participating in a seasonal disease awareness program organized by the Medical and Health Department at the IDOC Conference Hall on Friday, Additional Collector Narsinga Rao emphasized the need for increased vigilance.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that early rains this year could lead to the spread of seasonal diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and filariasis. He urged officials to implement all necessary measures to prevent the outbreak and spread of these illnesses.
The Additional Collector stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene in every village and municipal ward, ensuring that rainwater does not stagnate. In view of the reopening of schools on June 12, he directed that sanitation drives be undertaken at schools, hostels, and Anganwadi centers.
He also instructed that 'Dry Day' activities be conducted every Friday, including cleaning of drinking water tanks with bleaching powder. Special focus should be placed on sanitation efforts, such as clearing garbage heaps and cleaning drains regularly, he added.
The meeting was attended by District Medical and Health Officer Siddappa, DPO Nagendram, Mission Bhagiratha Intra EE Sridhar Reddy, DBO Sunanda, Fisheries Department Officer Shakeel Bhanu, municipal commissioners, concerned medical officials, and other staff.

Health dept issues advisory in wake of heavy rain forecast
Hyderabad: The Health department on Friday issued an advisory in the wake of the forecast of heavy rains for the next seven days by the IMD. The officials have urged the citizens to take precautions against seasonal illness. The Director of Public Health Dr B Ravinder Nayak said that as IMD-Hyderabad has issued warning alert of heavy rainfall for next seven days across Telangana with lower temperature and higher humidity, which may lead to seasonal illnesses, especially vector, water and air borne diseases. To guard against these, the DPH has issued a few tips to stay healthy during this season battling the mosquito menace to fight Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya. The officials have advised citizens to follow instructions like doors and windows are to be secured with mosquito nets / screens, beds and cribs are to be covered with mosquito nets, use Mosquito repellents as precaution, maintain domestic drains to prevent water stagnation, domestic septic tanks should be covered with a mesh to prevent mosquito breeding, observance of 'Friday- Dry Day' every week to get rid of stagnant water around your house. Prevent Water borne infections- Acute Gastroenteritis, Jaundice and Typhoid, drink filtered / boiled water, wash hands, especially before and after meals, avoid eating outside stale food Guard against Airborne infections, viral fevers and influenza. The officials have advised people to avoid shaking hands, with someone who is sick, or when they are sick, use hand sanitizers often to avoid being infected, use hand -kerchief when you sneeze or cough, if any person develops flu like symptoms including cough with fever, headache, sore throat and associated body pains, please go to nearby Government Health facilities.

Awareness programme on breastfeeding held
A human chain was organised by Anganwadi workers at a programme organised by the ICDS and Medical and Health Department to spread awareness on the importance of breastfeeding as part of the World Breastfeeding Week celebrations 2025, near the Kali temple on RK Beach here on Sunday (August 3). The participants raised slogans on the importance of breastfeeding. Addressing the gathering, I. Vani, superintendent of King George Hospital (KGH), said feeding the baby with colostrum (first milk) within one hour after the birth of the baby would increase immunity. It would help in protecting the child from diseases like pneumonia and diarrhoea. ICDS project director K.V. Ramalakshmi said the colostrum would be rich in antibodies, protein and other nutrients and protect the baby from diseases. CPDOs K. Neelima, D. Neelaveni, M. Sridevi, Jhansi Rani, Santoshi and Sri Latha and sector supervisors participated in the programme.

Registrations must for newly-weds, pregnant women, infants, says Collector
District Collector Harendhira Prasad on Friday directed the health department officials to take adequate measures to prevent maternal and infant deaths in the district. He conducted a review meeting on maternal and infant mortality, immunisation programmes, malaria, dengue and other health-related issues with medical officers at the Collectorate on Friday (August 1, 2025). Mr. Prasad said that registrations of newly-wed couples, pregnant women, and infants must be recorded and instructed that special focus be given to high-risk pregnancies and low-birth-weight cases. He also asked the officials to ensure such cases receive adequate nutritional support and are shifted to hospitals in advance to avoid complications. He has also directed the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Jagadeeswara Rao to provide proper training to ASHA and ANM workers. During the meeting, the Collector also observed that hospitals which are conducting excessive abortions should be closely monitored and sought a detailed report on the causes of abortions. He also suggested setting up milk-feeding rooms for infants at bus stands, railway stations and shopping malls. Strict inspections must be conducted at scanning centres to prevent gender determination tests, while stringent surveillance and special inspection teams should be deployed for IVF centres, the Collector ordered. On malaria and dengue prevention, the Collector instructed officials to observe 'Dry Day' every Friday to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. He also stressed on the need for proper measures to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases and immunisation drives. During the meeting, the Collector released a poster marking the Breastfeeding Week celebrations.
