Dan Campbell admits his biggest concern for Lions going into training camp

Yahoo20-07-2025
The Detroit Lions are seeing significant turnover in their offensive line going into the 2025 season.
The team lost center Frank Ragnow to retirement and guard Kevin Zeitler to free agency, where he inked a deal with the Tennessee Titans.
As if all that wasn't enough, there are concerns with guard Graham Glasgow after a disappointing 2024 campaign that led many to wonder if he's on the decline.
Glasgow is one of at least two offensive linemen who were competing for the vacant center job this offseason, along with rookie Tate Ratledge.
That competition will no doubt continue in training camp and the loser will likely take one of the guard spots. The favorite for the other guard spot is second-year offensive lineman Christian Mahogany, who showed promise last season but remains mostly unproven.
Going into training camp, head coach Dan Campbell revealed that the offensive line is his biggest concern.
"My eyes are on the O-line," Campbell told reporters on Sunday. "I want to see what that unit's going to do and what's going to come out of that. We need some guys to step up for us. It's a great opportunity.
"We lost Frank and Zeitler's gone and so we've got two or three more spots for guys to step up and help us. And, once that happens, then mesh," he added. "The guys that we know we can trust, this is where they're going to play and then getting whoever those five are together to where they start working together and start trusting each other."
Campbell added that the battle for interior offensive line spots is "an open competition," per Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News.
Given all that's required of a center, Glasgow's experience gives him the edge over the rookie for that particular spot.
The veteran has played 2,611 snaps at center during his career, according to Pro Football Focus, while Ratledge did not play the position at Georgia.
Other players to keep an eye on for the interior offensive line spots are veterans Trystan Colon and Kayode Awosika, and rookie Miles Frazier.

Big Shield lands in two weeks

It's only two weeks away. The next book is coming. It's the fifth since 2022. And this one is football fiction rooted in fact. The NFL has plenty of inside information. Plenty of gamblers would love to have it. Are they buying it? Officially, we don't know. Eventually, we may find out that it's happening. Big Shield is based on a fictional pro football league (not the NFL). It's set in an undefined, but not too distant, future. And it features a backup quarterback from the Las Vegas franchise who is selling inside information, before and during games, to the mob. It came up on today's PFT Live when the topic of inside information was mentioned because, one, I'm trying to get people to pre-order it and, two, the first chapter includes an actual play call that Simms shared with me a year or two ago when I was writing it. West Right Slot 72 Bingo U Split Can It With 58 Lexus Apple 96 Seattle. He explains what it all means in the attached video. And I also explain in the attached video that I forgot to thank him in the book's acknowledgments section for taking the time to help ensure the book's authenticity. So I thanked him on the show instead. And I'll thank him here. And I'll send him a signed copy of it. And he won't read it. You can read it for 99 cents, in ebook form. Hendrickson to headline wrestling event as Hulk Hogan's venture continues after his death

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Wyatt Hendrickson will face Egypt's Mostafa Aly Elsayed Gabr Elders in Real American Freestyle wrestling's main event on Aug. 30, the company announced Tuesday. RAF01, the company's inaugural event, will go on as planned at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland about a month after commissioner Hulk Hogan 's death. Chad Bronstein, Real American Freestyle's CEO and co-founder, said that's the way Hogan would have wanted it. 'From day one, he threw his weight behind this league,' Bronstein said of Hogan in a statement. 'He met with athletes. He watched tape, shared stories and showed up like only he could. RAF was personal to him, something bigger than all of us. This league is part of his legacy, and we intend to honor it.' Hendrickson beat Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson to win the 285-pound national title at the NCAA Division I wrestling championships in March. Hendrickson's dramatic late takedown in the final gave the Oklahoma State heavyweight the 5-4 win, closed out a 27-0 season and ended Steveson's win streak at 70 matches. Hendrickson later won the Hodge Trophy as the nation's top men's college wrestler. Hogan was a fan of Hendrickson's and believed he embodied the spirit of Real American Freestyle. Hendrickson is an Air Force second lieutenant who celebrated with a United States flag after he defeated Steveson. Hendrickson's opponent was the final piece to complete the card. Elders was the African Games champion at 97 kilograms in 2024 and qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics in that weight class. Other men's matchups include Bo Nickal vs. Jacob Cardenas; Yianni Diakomihalis vs. Bajrang Punia; Darrion Caldwell vs. Real Woods; and Austin Gomez vs. Lance Palmer. Women's matches scheduled are: Kennedy Blades vs. Alejandra Rivera; and Sarah Hildebrandt vs. Zeltzin Hernandez. The event will be streamed on FOX Nation. ___ AP sports: Cliff Brunt, The Associated Press

Steelers sign DB Daryl Porter Jr.

The Steelers signed the son of one of their former draft choices on Tuesday. The team announced the addition of defensive back Daryl Porter Jr. to the roster. They waived tight end Kevin Foelsch in a corresponding move. Porter signed with the Bills after going undrafted out of Miami this year. He was waived by the Bills ahead of training camp, however, and will now try to do something that his father wasn't able to do. The Steelers drafted safety Daryl Porter Sr. in the sixth round in 1997, but he never appeared in a regular season game for the team. He did go on to play 55 games for the Lions, Bills, and Titans.
