The session will run until Aigust 21. Both the Houses will, however, be adjourned on August 12, 2025, to reassemble on August 18, 2025, to facilitate Independence Day Celebrations. The Session will provide a total of 21 sittings spread over a period of 32 days.
Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said on Sunday that tentatively 17 items of legislative and other business have been identified for being taken up during this session.
Rijiju said that the Union government is open to discussing all issues in Parliament, including Operation Sindoor. He, however, said that any debate on the subject has to be held within the laid-down rules and procedures.
Opposition parties have insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should respond on Operation Sindoor, as well as on US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he brokered peace between India and Pakistan. They also demanded a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Rijiju, however, made it clear that the final call on discussions in Parliament will be taken by the Business Advisory Committees of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Opposition has been insisting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks in Parliament on Operation Sindoor and US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan.
Congress MP and deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari, said the opposition would demand the prime minister's presence in Parliament and urge him to respond to the issues raised.
'Parliament is more important than travelling abroad,' Tiwari told PTI.
PM Modi will visit the United Kingdom and the Maldives between 23 and 26 July 2025.
Among other issues, INDIA bloc will raise the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Pahalgam terror attack, and alleged voter deleation in Bihar through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Parliament Monsoon Session: The Monsoon Session of the Parliament is all set to begin today, July 21 on a stormy note with Opposition INDIA bloc ready to corner the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government on a host of issues.
This is the first session of Parliament being held after Operation Sindoor, India's precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.

Gujarat CM unveils Rs 358.37 crore development package for Banaskantha

Banaskantha: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 358.37 crore in Banaskantha district. Speaking at a public gathering in Suigam near Nadabet, the CM emphasised the government's resolve to transform border villages into engines of growth and tourism. "Where once there was barren land, we now see emerging tourism hubs, thanks to sustained efforts in water connectivity and grassroots infrastructure," said Patel, adding that the benefits of development are now reaching the last mile. Patel launched new projects worth Rs 55.68 crore and highlighted Gujarat's focus on health, education, water management, and green initiatives, pointing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaigns like 'Catch the Rain' and 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' as timely responses to global warming and environmental degradation. 'In Gujarat, every district now has a medical college, and over 7,000 new doctors are being trained annually. Citizens are now receiving free medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh under schemes like Ayushman Bharat,' Patel said. He also acknowledged the success of the Amrit Sarovar Mission, noting that Gujarat exceeded its target by constructing more than 75 reservoirs in each district, with over 30,000 recharge wells completed in Banaskantha alone through a partnership with Banas Dairy. Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankarbhai Chaudhary, who also addressed the event, praised the CM's leadership and recalled how Banaskantha - once seen as underdeveloped - has now become a model for rural rejuvenation and border tourism. He emphasised the role of schemes like school enrolment drives, girls' education campaigns, and Gunotsav in transforming education in the district. "Banaskantha topped the state in this year's Class 10 and 12 results - a moment of pride for all of us," he said. Industries Minister Balvantsinh Rajput, the district in charge, noted that the government had allocated Rs 7,200 crore to Banaskantha in the past three years, facilitating job growth through cooperative institutions like Banas Dairy and new GIDC estates across Talukas. Highlighting Gujarat's strong fiscal management, Patel attributed the state's progress to transparent governance and long-term planning - a legacy, he said, initiated by Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister. In a symbolic gesture, the Jay Bhole Group from Ahmedabad gifted the CM a replica of 51 Shakti Peeths and a Shri Yantra made from sacred soil. Citizens also warmly welcomed the recent approval of the new Vav-Tharad district, viewing it as a step toward better administration and local development. The event witnessed the presence of several state dignitaries and local MLAs, including Swarupji Thakor, Praveen Mali, Aniket Thakor, Keshaji Chauhan, and Mavji Desai, along with District Collector Mihir Patel, DDO M.J. Dave, SP Akshayraj Makwana, and other officials from various departments.

No current plan to drop ‘socialism', ‘secularism' from Preamble: Law Minister Arjun Meghwal

The Union government has clarified that it has 'no current plan or intention' to reconsider or remove the words 'socialism' and 'secularism' from the Preamble of the Constitution Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that while discussions or debates may be taking place in certain public or political circles, the government has neither announced any formal proposal nor initiated any legal or constitutional process to alter the Preamble. 'The government's official stand is that there is no current plan or intention to reconsider or remove the words 'socialism' and 'secularism' from the Preamble of the Constitution,' Meghwal said in a written reply. Meghwal said that any amendment to the Preamble would require extensive deliberation and broad consensus, which, at present, is not under consideration. The Law Minister also noted that in November 2024, the Supreme Court dismissed petitions challenging the 1976 amendment that added the two words. The court upheld Parliament's power to amend the Constitution, including the Preamble, and clarified that in the Indian context, 'socialism' refers to a welfare state and does not hinder private enterprise, while 'secularism' is an essential part of the Constitution's basic structure. Meghwal said while certain groups may be advocating a review of the added terms, such opinions do not reflect the government's official position. 'Such activities may generate public discourse, but they do not indicate any official action or policy direction,' he said. Last month, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stirred controversy when he described the inclusion of the words 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble as a 'festering wound.' His remarks lent weight to RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's call for a national debate on whether these terms should continue to define India's foundational values. Dhankhar had asserted that the Preamble is 'sacrosanct and not changeable,' calling the insertion of the words during the Emergency 'a sacrilege to the spirit of Sanatan.' (With inputs from PTI )

The NDRF, ITBP, Army, and Air Force helicopters were made available immediately. At their request, Shah dispatched an inter-ministerial central team within 20 days to assess the damage caused by the disaster. Responding to their demand for a study on the causes of the disaster, a high-level expert team was also constituted. Nadda said that under the chairmanship of the Union Home Minister, a high-level committee had already approved a funding package of Rs 2,006.40 crore for Himachal Pradesh for rehabilitation and reconstruction in areas affected by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts in 2023. The first instalment of Rs 451.44 crore was released on July 7. A total of 13 NDRF teams are currently deployed for rescue and relief work in Himachal. Nadda further said that at the BJP's request, Shah had directed the formation of a multi-disciplinary central team in view of the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters in Himachal. Ranaut, in a post on X, also mentioned the neet, saying that the central government stands firmly with Himachal Pradesh in this hour of crisis. 'Expressing deep condolences, the minister (Shah) assured that all affected families will be provided with every possible assistance and prompt rehabilitation.
