Indian women are increasingly turning to term insurance as a key financial tool to secure their children's future, according to the Women Term Survey 2025 released by Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance. Conducted in partnership with Pixis Global and Quals.AI, the nationwide study highlights evolving financial priorities among working women across metros, Tier 1, and Tier 2 cities.
The survey reveals that nearly 73% of mothers are concerned about how their child's education would be funded in their absence. In addition, 61% of women worry about their child's financial stability in the event of unforeseen life challenges. These figures reflect a growing sense of financial responsibility and a shift toward proactive family planning among modern Indian women.
Covering responses from over 1,000 salaried and self-employed women, the study underscores a strong preference for term insurance—valued for its affordability, critical illness coverage, and child protection benefits. Key Findings:
One of the standout insights from the survey is that 46% of women identified term insurance as their preferred financial product to safeguard their child's future. This preference is backed by a desire for products that not only protect life but also offer features like Child Income Protection, with an overwhelming 93% of mothers expressing interest in such benefits.
Healthcare coverage remains a top concern, with 87% of respondents highlighting Critical Illness protection as a highly attractive feature. Over half of the women surveyed also favoured term plans that include built-in Health Management Services (HMS).
Flexibility in coverage is another priority. 51% of women indicated a need for term plans that can adjust coverage as life stages evolve, while many respondents pointed to the lack of maturity benefits and complex claim processes as major drawbacks in current offerings.
Commenting on the survey results, Tarun Chugh, Managing Director and CEO of Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, said,
'The findings show a strong shift in how women perceive term insurance—not just as a life cover, but as a holistic solution addressing key financial concerns like child education, healthcare, and overall family security. These insights are guiding us in creating term plans that are aligned with the aspirations of today's financially aware women.'
The survey paints a clear picture of how women, particularly mothers, are reshaping their approach to financial planning. With a rising number of women taking charge of their family's financial future, there is a strong demand for customised, flexible, and benefit-rich term insurance products.

By Sudarshan Varadhan and Sethuraman N R SINGAPORE/NEW DELHI (Reuters) -India is curbing solar output during periods of low demand to keep its power grid stable and to ease congestion in power lines as green energy supply rises, its Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) told Reuters. Congestion in power lines due to some new plants coming into operation ahead of schedule and delayed transmission projects have also forced power output curbs, also known as curtailment, the MNRE said in an emailed response to questions late on Monday. The curtailments are the latest setback to India's renewable power developers, who are increasingly languishing without supply contracts as demand for power slows. The National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) said in a July 24 letter to the ministry that solar power producers in Rajasthan, the top green power producing state, were facing prolonged and frequent curtailments, which had risen to 48% of output during peak generation hours. The producers have lost more than $26 million in revenue since April due to the curbs, NSEFI said in the letter reviewed by Reuters. NSEFI, whose members include the green energy arms of Indian conglomerates Adani and Tata, Amazon Web Services, Dutch investment firm SHV and Malaysia's Gentari, said curtailments undermined project viability and future investments. "Projects in the state had been deferred by 18-20 months to accommodate for the delays in the transmission system, but are still unable to be commissioned due to even further delays," NSEFI said. NSEFI has asked the government to accelerate transmission and battery storage projects, some of which face up to two years of delay. The federal power ministry has said it is fast-tracking interstate transmission lines to support renewable energy. BEYOND RAJASTHAN While Rajasthan is the worst affected by curtailments, other major green energy producers such as the southern Tamil Nadu state, and Gujarat and Maharashtra in the west are also curbing output, according to four industry officials and analysts. Data compiled by Tamil Nadu's Renewable Energy Producers Association showed solar output was 10% lower than forecast in the quarter ended June. J Radhakrishnan, a spokesman for the Tamil Nadu energy department said solar was being curbed as a "last resort" measure, and that coal power was also being curtailed amid low demand. India's renewable energy generation, mainly solar, rose at a record pace in the six months ended June as previously awarded projects came online, while overall power generation growth was largely flat compared with an increase of nearly 6% in 2024. However, solar projects awarded in the three months ended June fell 75% annually and tenders for new projects declined 65%, according to clean energy consultancy Mercom. The decline reflects a "temporary recalibration rather than a slowdown," MNRE said, adding that bids were being issued in line with national targets and demand. Government data shows the usage rate of solar capacity fell to 21.4% in May and 19.5% in June. The MNRE said some of it was due to lower irradiance, adding it expected capacity utilisation of 21%–25% range from February to June in the future.

Aug. 20 (UPI) -- After Washington imposed 50% tariffs on Brazilian exports, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government launched the Sovereign Brazil Plan, a $5.5 billion emergency package combining subsidized credit and guarantees for the hardest-hit exporters. The initiative also includes tax deferrals, tax credits through 2026, expanded access to insurance against canceled orders and public purchases to absorb agricultural and industrial surpluses. The aid -- tied to preserving jobs -- is paired with a diplomatic push and efforts to open new markets to prevent production cuts and protect growth. "We cannot be scared, nervous or anxious when there is a crisis. A crisis is for creating new things," Lula said Aug. 13 as he presented the measures. According to Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, the 50% tariff imposed by the United States affects 35.9% of Brazilian exports to the U.S. market. That was equal to $14.5 billion out of $40.4 billion in 2024, hitting key goods such as coffee, beef and sugar. In the short term, the Sovereign Brazil Plan will serve as a liquidity and risk buffer for the hardest-hit companies, providing loans and guarantees to ease cash shortages and prevent production shutdowns. At the same time, public purchases will act as a "demand floor" for sectors facing perishability or sudden drops in orders -- including meat, fruit and seafood -- to stabilize producers' income and prevent ripple effects in transport, logistics and services. The measure also buys time for the external track of the plan: challenging the unilateral tariffs at the World Trade Organization and, foremost, diversifying markets. According to the Brazilian government, 397 new markets have opened in less than three years, expanding the customer base for "Made in Brazil" products. With partial access to the U.S. market cut off, Brazil has moved on two fronts: the BRICS/Global South and deeper trade agreements with China. According to Brazil's presidency, Lula and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke by phone Aug. 7 to discuss the economic situation and the unilateral tariffs that have hit both countries hardest. Lula and Modi agreed to strengthen bilateral trade and pledged to expand the Mercosur-India agreement to raise exchanges to more than $20 billion before 2030. They are preparing visits and business missions to open opportunities in trade, defense, energy and technology. With China -- its main partner -- Brazil relies on a strategic relationship backed by about $4.7 billion in Chinese investment in infrastructure, renewable energy and agribusiness, helping redirect exports and reduce dependence on the dollar. At the regional level, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa met Monday with Lula in Brasília, where they agreed to boost bilateral trade and coordinate responses to what they see as U.S. protectionism. Brazil also signaled it was willing to lower tariffs on some Ecuadorian products hit with an additional 15% U.S. duty, which affected exports of bananas, shrimp and flowers. In recent months, Brazil has revived its Mercosur agreement with the European Union, reached a deal with the European Free Trade Association and advanced negotiations with the Gulf states and Canada, along with new contacts with Vietnam. Ricardo Alban, president of the National Confederation of Industry, called the federal government's measures positive steps to mitigate the impact of the 50% U.S. tariff on Brazilian exporters. "We welcome these measures because they address many of the demands raised by industries, federations and industry associations, and also because they include two basic principles: continuing negotiations as a priority and adopting new measures if needed," Alban said. Brazil's National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism said reducing risks in foreign trade requires diversifying markets, expanding trade agreements and strengthening economic diplomacy. The group also called for steps to contain production costs, rising prices and slowing economic activity, while preserving jobs and supporting solid growth in Brazil. Husband and wife team Ben Martin and Jasmine, who run the award-winning restaurant Daaku, closed the doors at the beginning of March this year. Now, Ben has revealed the reason why he had to close the restaurant. 'Very few are aware. Jasmine was left fighting for her life after a sudden cardiac arrest caused by a viral infection,' he said. 'After being in a coma for a week, she had a long stint recovering at Royal Cornwall Hospital.' 'The food shows a diverse choice for people with all dietary requirements and is given all the love and time that makes a Daaku meal special,' Ben added.
