I feel lucky that I got to meet Aamir sir and work with him. That man is so humble, so hardworking and very focused. Even though he is such a big name, such a huge star and a legend, he is still so down to earth and dedicated. He takes his work very seriously. It feels nice to see that."

Aamir Khan Slams OTT, Explains Why Sitaare Zameen Par Will Release Only in Theatres
Last Updated: Aamir Khan's next film, Sitaare Zameen Par, will be exclusive to theatres. He believes early OTT releases harm the cinema experience. Aamir Khan has made it clear – his next film, Sitaare Zameen Par, will not be heading to any streaming platform anytime soon. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, the actor-producer shared his thoughts on how the fast shift to OTT after the pandemic has affected theatre business. He explained that releasing films too soon online takes away from the cinema experience, and he strongly believes that good films deserve to be seen on the big screen. In a candid conversation, Aamir Khan reflected on how the rise of OTT platforms has impacted the theatrical experience. 'I don't know any business where you offer your product, and if someone doesn't buy it, you tell them—don't worry, I'll drop it at your house for free in eight weeks," Aamir said, adding, 'It doesn't make sense to me. That's the reason many films aren't doing well in theatres." He described the current situation as a 'famine and feast" model where either a few films do extremely well or most don't work at all. He believes the early OTT release trend has weakened the theatrical culture and, therefore, made a conscious choice to keep his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par exclusive to theatres. 'I believe in theatres. I believe in my audience. If you make a good film, people will come to watch it on the big screen." When asked about Laal Singh Chaddha, which got a warm reception on OTT after a lukewarm run in theatres, Aamir said, 'If someone doesn't enjoy a film in theatres, they won't suddenly like it at home. Your opinion of the film doesn't change just because of where you watch it." He also acknowledged that high costs at multiplexes — not just tickets but food and overall experience — discourage middle-of-the-road films, pushing audiences to wait for OTT. Despite this, Aamir is committed to making heartfelt cinema, even if it's not the most commercially obvious choice. 'After Laal Singh Chaddha, everyone told me to do an action film. But the story of Sitaare Zameen Par really touched me. When something enters my bloodstream, I can't ignore it. That's how it was with Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, and Dangal too," he said. He recalled how Lagaan happened because no one else was ready to produce it. He turned producer out of necessity and passion. He said, 'It wasn't a practical decision. Everyone said no, but I couldn't shake it off. That's how I became a producer—by accident." On a parting note, Aamir emphasised that his choices have never been driven by trends, but by the emotional pull of a good story. 'I could have played it safe. But I can't do a film unless I feel it deeply. That's who I am as a creative person," he said. Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy drama film directed by R. S. Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. A spiritual successor to Khan's 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, it stars Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. It is a remake of the Spanish film Champions. Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra and Simran Mangeshkar will make their Hindi cinema debut in Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir Khan calls Sitaare Zameen Par's release ‘ill-timed', expresses concern about its box office performance: ‘I'm stressed only action films are working'
Aamir Khan's much-awaited comedy-sports drama Sitaare Zameen Par is set to hit theatres on June 20. Ahead of its release, the actor-filmmaker has expressed doubts about the film's box office prospects. During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Aamir shared his concern about Sitaare Zameen Par doing well at the box office. He said, 'When I look at the film today, I think I am quite happy with it. I think what we set out to make, we have made. Will it work at the box office? I have no idea. The fact of the matter is, throughout my career, whenever my film is released, I suddenly become aware. My film is a comedy, but right now only action is working. When Ghajini came, my film was action, but action wasn't working then. Nobody wants to see action.' The actor added, 'My film always releases at a time when it's completely ill-timed. When my comedy film comes out, action films are working. So I am constantly stressed that I don't know right now everyone wants to see action. The last 12 films have been action and blockbusters. So while I believe that it's a very heartwarming and beautiful story which will connect very deeply with people, that's what I am hoping. But right now, everyone wants to see action films.' Aamir Khan's infamous creative clashes: Before replacing 'Taare Zameen Par' director, Aamir fell out with this iconic '90s filmmaker
Agencies Bollywood actor Aamir Khan earned the reputation of being a 'perfectionist' early in his journey, but that title also brought its share of backlash — with several critics alleging that he secretly took control behind the camera, often overshadowing the official directors. Aamir Khan has long carried the tag of a 'perfectionist'—a title earned early in his Bollywood career. Though it complimented his dedication, it also attracted significant criticism. Some within the industry began accusing him of covertly directing films under the guise of supporting roles, overshadowing official directors. While Aamir has dismissed such allegations in conversations with the media, recent remarks by Darsheel Safary have reignited this debate. Darsheel, who played the lead role in Taare Zameen Par, recently opened up about how the film's directorial duties shifted unexpectedly. According to him, Aamir made the bold decision to re-film a major scene, despite original creative director and writer Amole Gupte being actively present on set. Aamir, who had previously not been attached as the director, asked everyone to disregard what had just been shot and announced that he would now helm the scene. Though Amole remained on set in a creative capacity, the reins of direction quietly passed to Aamir. Darsheel recalled that Gupte had worked on set for only a few days before Aamir gradually assumed full directorial responsibilities. Describing his early experience, Darsheel admitted feeling intimidated by Aamir, whereas his rapport with Amole was far more relaxed and friendly. The two shared a close bond—Gupte had even discovered Darsheel at a dance workshop—and their sons were also close friends. Darsheel added that during the filming process, Aamir and Amole often exchanged creative opinions, with Aamir frequently offering his insights and an interview with Galatta Plus, Aamir expressed frustration over persistent rumors accusing him of hijacking films from other directors. He explained that many assumed he was unofficially leading productions whenever a film failed after his departure, creating a pattern of speculation that became difficult to shake. He maintained that the actual directors were the ones making the final decisions, and his own involvement was often misrepresented. Aamir will soon return to the screen in Sitaare Zameen Par, a follow-up to Taare Zameen Par, slated for release on June 20. While he previously portrayed a compassionate teacher, this time he takes on the role of a basketball coach. Aamir's clashes with filmmakers have not been limited to one project. In a fan interaction on Rediff, he addressed his strained relationship with Rangeela director Ram Gopal Varma. Their fallout began years ago when Varma made a comment suggesting a minor actor outshone Aamir in a particular scene. This remark, misunderstood by the media, led to unresolved tensions due to lack of timely clarification. Hurt by the miscommunication, Aamir chose to distance himself from Varma moving forward.
