Pre-minicamp Arizona Cardinals 53-man roster projections
The Arizona Cardinals will hold mandatory minicamp this week with practices on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It is the last week of the offseason program before they are off until the end of July.
Because we are nearing the end of the offseason program, it is time to begin with some projections for the final roster.
Here is our first 53-man roster projection of the offseason.
Arizona Cardinals 53-man roster projections before minicamp
Quarterback
Kyler Murray
Jacoby Brissett
The Cardinals have only kept two quarterbacks on the active roster while Jonathan Gannon has been the head coach. Clayton Tune will, if he clears waivers, go to the practice squad.
Running back
James Conner
Trey Benson
Emari Demercado
DeeJay Dallas
There is no reason to believe the room will look different in 2025.
Wide receiver
Marvin Harrison Jr.
Michael Wilson
Zay Jones
Greg Dortch
Simi Fekoho
Xavier Weaver
The competition for the back end will be interesting. No one is talking about Fehoko, but he has almost all his salary guaranteed. Dortch has no guaranteed money. They like Weaver. But can they keey six receivers?
Tight end
Trey McBride
Elijah Higgins
Tip Reiman
The Cardinals like having four tight ends on the roster, but with seven defensive linemen and nine defensive backs, you have to cut from somewhere.
Offensive line
Paris Johnson
Evan Brown
Hjalte Froholdt
Isaiah Adams
Jonah Williams
Kelvin Beachum
Jon Gaines
Hayden Conner
Royce Newman
It is going to be tough for tackle Christian Jones to make the final roster, but he could be the guy instead of Newman.
Defensive line
Calais Campbell
Dalvin Tomlinson
Justin Jones
Bilal Nichols
Darius Robinson
Walter Nolen
Dante Stills
It is going to come down to Stills or L.J. Collier. I still think that Stills will likely be traded before the season. He is the only one with value in the group.
Outside linebacker
Josh Sweat
Zaven Collins
Baron Browning
BJ Ojulari
Jordan Burch
Xavier Thomas is the odd man out this year.
Inside linebacker
Akeem Davis-Gaither
Mack Wilson
Cody Simon
Owen Pappoe
Mykal Walker
This room feels pretty set based on offseason additions.
Cornerback
Star Thomas
Will Johnson
Max Melton
Garrett Williams
Denzel Burke
Kei'Trel Clark is the off man out. This room will be very competitive in training camp and the preseason.
Safety
Budda Baker
Jalen Thompson
Rabbit Taylor-Demerson
Joey Blount
Unless there is a trade, it will come down to Blount, a key special teams player the last two seasons, and seventh-round pick Kitan Crawford.
Specialists
Chad Ryland
Blake Gillikin
Aaron Brewer
This group is set.

St. Louis Cardinals at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions
The St. Louis Cardinals (63-65) face the Tampa Bay Rays (61-66) in the opener of a 3-game set Thursday. First pitch from George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa is set for 7:35 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Cardinals vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets. Season series: First meeting; Cards won 2-1 last year The Cardinals failed to complete a 3-game sweep at the Miami Marlins Wednesday with a 6-2 loss as slight +101 underdogs as the O/U total (8) pushed. RHP Andre Pallante (5 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 3 BB, 4 K) got torpedoed again, and St,. Louis never found its stride. 1B Willson Contreras hit his team-leading 17th homer of the season as the Cards have lost 6 of 8 -- having lost 5 in a row before the Marlins series. St. Louis is 5 games out of a playoff spot. The Rays have dropped 3 straight -- 1 at San Francisco Sunday and 2 at home to the New York Yankees Tuesday and Wednesday -- following a 3-game win streak. Wednesday's 6-4 defeat in 10 innings saw the Rays, who were -108, muster just 4 hits. As a matter of fact, Yankees rookie RHP Cam Schlittler was perfect through 6, not allowing a baserunner until LF Chandler Simpson singled to lead off the seventh. However, the Rays tied it at 3-all thanks to 1B Bob Seymour's solo HR in the eighth and C Hunter Feduccia 2-run, 2-out double in the ninth. Unfortunately for Tampa Bay -- and Under (8.5) bettors -- New York PH-RF Giancarlo Stanton smacked a 2-run homer on a full count to lead off the top of the 10th and C Austin Wells followed with a solo blast -- both HRs coming off RHP Pete Fairbanks (1 IP, 2 ER, 3 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K). The Rays, who are 6½ games out of a playoff spot, struck out 16 times, led by Yandy Diaz's golden sombrero (4 K's). This 3-game series will take Saturday off and wrap up Sunday. Originally scheduled Friday through Sunday, the middle contest was moved to Thursday to avoid traffic congestion due to an NFL preseason Tampa Bay Buccaneers game. Cardinals at Rays projected starters RHP Sonny Gray vs. RHP Joe Boyle Gray (11-6, 4.30 ERA) makes his 26th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, an NL-best 1.5 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9 over 140 1/3 innings. Boyle (1-2, 4.68 ERA) makes his sixth start (10th appearance). He has a 1.19 WHIP, 5.0 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 through 32 2/3 innings. Cardinals at Rays odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:02 p.m. ET. Cardinals at Rays picks and predictions Rays 6, Cardinals 4 Moneyline I like TAMPA BAY (-102). St. Louis (-118) is terrible against pitchers they have never seen before. Gray struggles on the road with a 5.23 ERA (51 2/3 IP, 30 ER), and he also has trouble in the heat. It's expected to be 88 degrees with the wind blowing out. Run line/Against the spread We're getting great value on the ML, so PASS on a run line play. Over/Under As mentioned, the forecast calls for wind blowing out to right-center at 8 mph. Steinbrenner Field has also been a hitters' park this year with an MLB fourth-best 119 HR factor, according to Statcast. In comparison, that's better than Yankee Stadium at 116. Arizona Cardinals Week 3 opponent San Francisco 49ers have WR problems
The Cardinals play the 49ers in Week 3. They are dealing with injuries, suspensions and more at wide receiver. The Arizona Cardinals will play the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers on the road in Week 3. They will be facing a team with a series of problems at wide receiver. They traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders in the offseason, and they still have quality offensive players like running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle, but the receiver room has been riddled with injuries. Here is a rundown of what we know about the 49ers and their trouble at receiver. The 49ers have a mix of injuries, suspensions and contract issues. They made a trade to possibly alleviate some of the issues. Brandon Aiyuk not ready to come back Aiyuk, who tore his ACL and MCL last season, is on PUP and will start the season there. Head coach Kyle Shanahan expects him to be back about Week 6, which is three weeks after the Cardinals play the 49ers for the first time. Jauan Jennings hurt, in contract dispute Jennings has been sidelined with a calf injury. Entering the final year of his contract with no guarantees, and coming off his best season in 2024 when he just missed 1,000 yards, he wants a new deal. Demarcus Robinson suspended Robinson, signed in free agency, and expected to be one of their top three receivers, has been suspended for the first three games of the season, meaning he will miss the game against the Cardinals. He was suspended because of a DUI. Jordan Watkins injured Watkins suffered a high ankle sprain. Those will keep players out four to six weeks. Russell Gage injured Gage doesn't have a long-term injury, but he will be out a week or so with a knee sprain. Jacob Cowing injured Cowing, drafted by the Niners in the fourth round last year and who had 28 catches as a rookie, has reinjured his hamstring. Trade! 49ers acquire Skyy Moore The 49ers, adding bodies to their receiver room, sent a sixth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for a seventh-round pick and receiver Skyy Moore. The former second-round pick only played in six games last season and did not have a reception. 49ers WR depth chart The 49ers' receiver depth chart looks like this: Starters Next four: The rest Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. 7 Arizona Cardinals player injuries potentially impacting final 53-man roster
The Cardinals have seven players injured who either would or could make the roster will impact how the roster is formed. The Arizona Cardinals are days away from having to trim their roster down to 53 players. They have several injured players whose standing will impact that final 53. Will they start the season on injured reserve and be designated to return? Will they be out the whole season? Will they need to carry an injured player on the roster? What about the PUP list? In all, there are seven players right now, whose injuries impact the final roster. DL Justin Jones Jones, who missed 14 games last season with a torn triceps, has been out with a knee injury and hasn't played in the preseason. He has a fully guaranteed $7 million salary, so he isn't going anywhere. The question is whether he will be able to play in Week 1 or whether they will have to carry him on the roster while recovering. If he is going to miss more time, he could go on injured reserve and be designated to return, missing at least the first four games. The Cardinals can designate up to two players on IR to return without having them be on the 53-man roster first. DL Walter Nolen Nolen is on PUP and has not practiced in training camp. He suffered a calf injury before camp. If he isn't activated from PUP before final cuts, he can go on the PUP reserve and miss at least the first four games. He wouldn't count against the final 53. But if they want him to play at the start of the season or at least before Week 5, he has to be part of the 53, which potentially could bump a capable defensive lineman off the roster. DL Bilal Nichols Nichols is also on PUP but is dealing with the same neck injury that ended his season last year after six games. There has been no indication for his return and, if I had to guess, he might not return to football. But he is under contract and has a guaranteed $5.7 million in salary this year, so he simply will be on PUP probably. OLB BJ Ojulari Ojulari is a forgotten man. While head coach Jonathan Gannon says his progress is going well, he has missed over a year since he tore his ACL. He also has guaranteed salary. He can start the season on PUP, meaning he must miss at least four weeks, but with a competitive OLB room, where does he fit? If he is activated, it might mean Xavier Thomas doesn't make the roster. OL Will Hernandez Hernandez was signed late into camp and is on PUP as well. He is coming off a torn ACL and Isaiah Adams is now the starting right guard. He also could miss the first four weeks and then be a future roster decision, but if he is taken off, he will burn one of the nine or 10 offensive line spots for the roster while he recovers. OL Christian Jones, OL Hayden Conner Neither of these players was guaranteed to make the roster, but both had a good shot. Jones is a second-year tackle and Conner was the Cardinals' sixth-round pick this year. Both suffered preseason knee injuries the last two weeks and, per Gannon, are going to miss some time, which translates to many weeks. Are they season-ending injuries? We don't know. If they are, then it doesn't matter, they won't impact the 53. However, the Cardinals can designate up to two players on IR without them occupying a spot on the final 53. Will they be part of that?
