Only SSC, Railway Board allowed to use Aadhaar-based authentication in exams: MoS
Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada, in a written reply, said, 'The real-time face authentication during examinations helps in preventing impersonation and reduces malpractices. It enhances transparency, builds trust among aspirants and strengthens administrative accountability.'
Responding to questions on Aadhaar-based face authentication for national exams, the MoS said, 'The Ministry authorises Ministries/Department/Organisations, under Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2020, for use of Aadhaar authentication for multiple use cases, including examination services.'
He said face authentication is a type of biometric authentication, having liveness detection features, that uses an individual's facial features to verify their identity in real time.
'It provides anytime, anywhere authentication with any entry-level smartphone, thus removing the requirement of any additional biometric devices,' he said, responding to questions from Kiran Choudhry, Kesridevsinh Jhala, Medha Vishram Kulkarni, Maya Naroliya and Baburam Nishad.
'The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issues Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number, to residents based on their biometric and demographic data. It serves as a digital identity for accessing various services through authentication carried out by the respective organisation providing those services,' he said.
Responding to a separate question from Bhim Singh on the use of 'fake Aadhaar cards', the MoS said, 'Any instance of Aadhaar misuse is reported to law enforcement agencies for investigation and further action. Details of crimes, if any, using fake Aadhar are available with respective state governments.'
Elaborating on the steps taken to strengthen the Aadhaar verification system, Prasada said offline verification can be done by scanning of QR code printed on the Aadhaar letter, eAadhaar, or Aadhaar PVC Card using the UIDAI 'Aadhaar QR Scanner' app or the 'mAadhaar' app, available on both Google Play Store and iOS App Store.'
Online authentication can be done through biometric methods such as fingerprint, iris, facial authentication, as well as One Time Password (OTP) authentication, he said.
The MoS said stakeholder advisories are also issued advising them not to accept Aadhaar numbers in physical or electronic form, without authentication.

1 2 Jodhpur: Alleging that there is an attempt underway to influence the impending elections in Bihar, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Singhvi Saturday targeted the Election Commission's ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists and claimed people whose names were removed would not have enough time to appeal. Questioning the timing of the electoral roll revision, Singhvi said EC could have undertaken the cleanup of voter lists in Dec, as has been done in earlier years. In the past, the EC carried out this process two years before the elections, so if someone's name was removed, they had the chance to appeal, Singhvi said. "But in Bihar, the way crores of people's names were removed from the voter list is what we are questioning," he added. Raising questions over EC's intent, Singhvi also said the commission's demand for a signed affidavit from the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for the anomalies he exposed in voter lists in Karnataka, was an "absurd joke and a mockery of the system." "When Rahul Gandhi raised this issue with the Election Commission, they instead asked him for an affidavit. This is like a situation where a person tells the police that a thief is running away, and the police, instead of acting, asks the complainant to provide an affidavit," Singhvi said, taking a dig at the commission's demand. He said Congress would raise this issue across the country and highlight how the EC, under BJP's leadership, is violating norms. He said the EC's decision to disregard Aadhar as a valid document for voter verification was surprising since this document was not only issued by the govt but also being accepted as valid for govt verification purposes, except by the EC. J&K: Raids on terrorists' homes in Kishtwar
JAMMU: J&K police carried out Saturday multiple searches at the homes of Pakistan-based terrorists and alleged associates in Jammu's Kishtwar, a day after similar raids in neighbouring Doda. Saturday's searches covered 26 houses, including that of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Mohammad Amin Bhat alias 'Jehangir Saroori', with officials describing the action as part of a larger clampdown on the terror ecosystem in Kishtwar. The terrorists whose homes were targeted have been operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and smuggle arms and ammunition from across the border, the officials said. As part of the clampdown on Friday, raids had rolled in Doda district's Chenab region, directed at the houses of Pakistan-based terrorists across 15 locations. 'The searches in Bhaderwah, Gandoh, Thathri and Kastigarh areas of Doda were aimed at intensifying the crackdown following terror activities in the district from across the border. Many based in Pakistan are helping foreign terrorists by providing them logistics and other support through their contacts here,' an official said. Separately, police have initiated the process of attaching properties of 36 terrorists, who hail from Kishtwar and are based in Pakistan or PoK. They were declared 'proclaimed offenders' in Jan last year, the officials said.

Why Delhi minister Kapil Mishra's Rakhi post has been flooded with wishes from women animal rescuers
Speaking to ThePrint, Bhargava said she has been feeding and caring for around 50 stray dogs at the Civic Centre premises, which house both the Income Tax and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) offices. All the dogs are vaccinated and sterilised, she said. Most of these comments echoed the same message originally posted by Alka Singh Bhargava, a retired IRS officer and former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax. New Delhi: Soon after Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra put out a Rakshabandhan post on social media Saturday, he got a deluge of comments from the women animal rescuers of Delhi. However, on 7 August, MCD vans arrived and picked up around 15 of these dogs and 'forcibly relocated' them without any prior notice or information, she claimed, adding that many of the dogs are aged, and some so frail they can barely see. 'The MCD is violating the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, which clearly state that sterilised stray dogs cannot be relocated,' said the former income tax officer. Bhargava, who lives in Noida, claimed the vans that picked up the dogs on 7 August were marked as belonging to the Veterinary Services Department of the municipal corporation, with dog catchers seizing the animals. 'The MCD is not giving a single answer, why they picked up the dogs, how many were taken, or what has been done with them. This is unlawful and amounts to cruelty towards animals. They cannot speak for themselves and are treated like garbage.' Since then, dozens of woman animal rescuers have commented on Kapil Mishra's Rakhi post, urging intervention in the alleged relocation of sterilised stray dogs, as flagged by Bhargava. Among them is the Karan Puri Foundation. Speaking to ThePrint, Divya Puri, who heads the NGO, said, 'The MCD claims to be concerned for the public safety, but these dogs have always been here, fed by nearby residents and even officials from the premises. Why has this safety concern emerged suddenly, and where did they take the dogs?' She added: 'We will now challenge this unlawful practice by the MCD through legal avenues and demand the resignation of the officials directly involved.' ThePrint contacted MCD Director Ashwini Kumar, who said that the Civic Centre premises host important functions attended by senior government dignitaries, drawing a diverse cross-section of citizens including the elderly, children, women, and the differently abled. Safety concerns prompted the MCD's decision, he added. 'Alka Singh is trying to push stray dogs into the Civic Centre for reasons known only to her,' he further said, adding that 'maintaining basic civic discipline is crucial for an orderly society that treats everybody fairly'. 'Alka Singh is welcome to keep as many stray dogs in her own home as she wants,' he added. This tussle comes at a time when the issue of stray dogs is a burning topic in the national capital. Amid uproar over allegedly rising cases of stray dog bites, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has talked about relocation, while animal lovers are insisting that a better funded, more organised sterilisation programme and designated feeding spots are the most humane solutions to curb the rising canine population. Even the Supreme Court has weighed in, emphasising the importance of balancing compassion with public safety and order. Delhi & stray dogs On Friday, Kapil Mishra had chaired a detailed discussion in Delhi on the matter of stray animals, which was attended by former BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, and representatives of various animal welfare NGOs. 'Our resolve is to transform the capital into a city where every living being can live safely, with dignity, and in a compassionate environment,' he wrote on X in Hindi. On Saturday, Kapil Mishra's comment section was flooded with messages from women, saying the festival is not just about a brother promising to protect his sister, but about protecting every person and animal from cruelty and injustice. 'Let's extend this bond to all species. The voiceless animals on our streets are being denied their right to live, breathe, and coexist – thanks to the apathy of government authorities,' said one user reposting Bhargava's message. A regular dog feeder at the Civic Centre premises told ThePrint that the guards have been 'instructed' not to allow anyone to feed the stray dogs there.
