Netflix's most watched crime drama hailed 'must watch' has very impressive Rotten Tomatoes score

Daily Record06-08-2025
Fans are already hooked on this stunning murder mystery and are already eager for another series
Netflix has been offering up some great binge-worthy shows lately. Those who are into crime series are almost too spoilt for choice, but one has come out on top.

In the vast expanse of Yosemite National Park, a woman's death draws a federal agent into lawless terrain, where nature obeys no rules but its own in this American drama murder-mystery series.

Untamed boasts an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes, at 82 per cent for critic reviews, and 71 per cent from viewers. Despite only being released in July, the series has shot up the ranks on the streaming giant, currently proudly sitting at the third most watched TV series in the UK.

Critics described the series as a "mystery that keeps you guessing" with a good cast and strong locations used for the set. "It's a by-the-book police procedural, but it has a suspenseful story, and you can't beat the Yosemite scenery," one critic voiced.
Another added: "While the broad strokes aren't anything new, strong writing and a terrific cast make Untamed a mystery you don't want to miss."

However some have called it "predictable" as one critic noted: "Is it groundbreaking? Not at all. Is it a bit too predictable? Absolutely. Is it still a fun watch with some good detective work and emotional beats that keep you invested in the main characters. I certainly thought so."
This thought was echoed by another critic, who said "the series is middling, a by-the-book murder mystery with the veneer of something distinct. But once it's exhausted all the plot twists and revelations, you know you've seen it all before."
Meanwhile, general viewers appear to be thrilled with it. "Extremely good! Can't believe some of these ratings! Legit the mini series left no stone unturned, it was compelling with the actors selected and by the scripted storyline with true investigative work," said one.

Another quipped: "Love every bit and I hope this turns into a show like the true detective HBO series. Legit Eric Bana did an excellent job as a leading special agent and we should have him reprise his role."
"If you like mystery shows that have heart, amazing acting, and absolutely gorgeous scenery, Untamed is a must-watch," added another viewer.

Another praised the camera work, so if the plot doesn't capture you in then this certainly will, as they stated: "The cinematography alone felt like a very powerful and important character in of itself. The hauntingly stunning yet harsh terrain where with a single move can dictate life or death."
Meanwhile, something that may be more up your street and has been equally taking the streaming giant by storm is The Loch. When a dead body is found near Loch Ness in Scotland, the community residing there is severely shaken up.
Starring actress and Happy Valley star Siobhan Finneran, it's certainly worth keeping on the watch list for something a little closer to home.

You can now binge all episodes of 'wall-to-wall action' Amazon spy thriller

Just days after Amazon Prime Video dropped The Assassin, which has been climbing up the streaming chart ever since, they have something else for TV watchers. All six episodes of Butterfly have now arrived, offering another tale of international espionage. Set in the bustling South Korean city of Seoul, the drama stars Daniel Dae Kim (of Lost and The Good Doctor) as the semi-retired gun-for-hire David Jung. The show kicks off in a high-end hotel, where a visiting politician is under surveillance for a bold assassination attempt (think Day of the Jackal vibe) which is being organised by a shady and deep-pocketed private intelligence agency. The young assassin on the job is Rebecca, played by Reina Hardesty. Next on her kill list is the rogue and not-really-retired agent David, who's highly trained in field work. Adapted from a graphic novel by Arash Amel and Marguerite Bennett, it turns out that David and Rebecca are known to one another. Ominous stuff. 'A central question in our entire season is, 'Who can you trust?',' Kim told USA Today. 'And just because they're family, can you trust them? The ending to our season really speaks to that question.' Kim was an executive producer on the show and has already teased what they could tackle with a second season, saying there's 'a lot more story to tell, and there are places for all of our characters to go that I find really intriguing'. He added: 'So let's hope people like it enough to make that happen.' More Trending So far so good on that front. The show has totted up a 71% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with several positive write-ups to its name. Collider praised the 'wall-to-wall action' in the show, while The AV Club wrote: 'With a tight focus and impressive performances, Butterfly's basic spycraft story feels both elevated and entertaining.' TV Guide described the show as 'slick' and a 'solid spy series'. However, not every review can be glowing and The Hollywood Reporter bemoaned the show 'needed more time in the chrysalis'. Band 'devastated' after being forced to pull out of Reading and Leeds

An American band has announced they will no longer be playing Reading and Leeds Festival due to money woes. The 2025 music festival is being held this month, with some of the headliners including Hozier, Chappell Roan, The Kooks and Bring Me the Horizon. However, one act has now shared they've had to pull the plug on their set. Sharing the news in a statement on Instagram, House of Protection wrote: 'We are devastated to announce that we will no longer be performing at this year's Reading & Leeds Festivals. 'Most of the funding to make this short trip possible was coming from our performance at the Heavy Music Awards, which unfortunately has been cancelled due to unforeseen and serious health issues affecting a key member of their team. 'Our condolences go out to that team member during this challenging time.' They continued: 'We are deeply sorry to disappoint those who were excited to see us. 'Unfortunately, we simply don't have the resources to make this happen at the moment. 'Your support means everything to us, and we want to assure you that we are already looking forward to making it up to you in the near future (Spain as well). This decision was not easy for us.' However, they ended by telling fans they would be returning to the UK in October to tour with fellow band, Architects. Reacting to the cancellation, many people threw their support behind the band. 'It's crazy that a band this amazing can't keep up with its career for financial reasons. This business sucks. Deep deep love for you guys,' Marco commented. 'So thankful I got to see you at Download, but Reading and Leeds won't be the same without you, hope everyone's okay and doing the best they can. Devastated,' Alex shared. 'Absolutely gutted – missed you at download because of clashes, was looking forward to reading! Will have to catch you another time! Know how rough it is for indy artists,' Christina added. House of Protection formed just last year. Its members – Aric Improta and Stephen Harrison – had originally began their music careers in other bands including Fever 333, Night Verses and The Chariot. They've described their music style as 'Atlanta trap to UK trip-hop, post-punk and alternative and art-rock'. More Trending Previously speaking to DIY about coming together after being part of different bands, the pair explained. 'We're in this for the long haul – we're going to outrun everyone,' they said. In coming months, they are due to play in Amsterdam and London before touring Australia. Got a story?
