Justin Rose pokes fun at pair of shanks during third round of 2025 British Open
Rosie found himself in precarious situations twice Saturday during the third round of the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush. The first came on the par-4 eighth when he was attempting to hit his approach shot and shanked his shot into an adjacent fairway. "Oh my God," Rose said as he immediately started to check on the fans who got a little closer to the action than they thought they would.
Then, it happened again on the par-4 11th hole. Same situation, hitting his approach from the rough, and voila, he send it fore right."
"I've shanked it again," he said within an instant of making contact.
"Shanks for coming! Crowds were incredible… Even came to say hi on a few occasions!" Rose said on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the round.
The shanks weren't detrimental to his round, as Rose shot 3-under 68 on Moving Day and is T-14 heading into the final round.

Mets on verge of pressing gas pedal before trade deadline
The post Mets on verge of pressing gas pedal before trade deadline appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Mets, currently leading the NL East standings, are preparing to intensify trade talks ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline. With a 60-44 record and a slim half-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, the club is entering a crucial stretch that could determine whether they secure their first division title since 2015. The urgency comes directly from the front office. The New York Post's Mike Puma took to his X account (formerly known as Twitter) and reported that internal discussions are scheduled to escalate in the coming days. 'With several teams on the bubble as buyers/sellers, Mets officials view this weekend as a decision point for many. Team brass plans to ramp up the process beginning Sunday night, when more specific trade targets and scenarios will start being discussed among club officials.' This signals a shift in tone for the Mets trade rumors landscape. With the trade deadline coming up this Thursday, New York is done evaluating. Now, they're preparing to act. The David Stearns regime has already shown a willingness to buy, sending two prospects to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for reliever Gregory Soto Friday night. But there's a sense that move was just the beginning. Rumors and fan replies to Puma's tweet speculate about possible additions like Luis Robert Jr. or a reunion with Harrison Bader. With the MLB trade deadline fast approaching, Stearns' next move could define the franchise's season. Their current positioning—leading the NL East standings, riding a 7-3 stretch over their last ten games, and 37-16 at home—adds more pressure to maximize this window. Another bat or frontline starter could separate them from the Phillies and provide October insurance. As Puma noted, New York's strategy may hinge on how bubble teams perform this weekend. Sellers like the Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates could be pivotal trade partners if they fall further from contention. The Mets are believed to be monitoring that closely, ready to strike as soon as conditions align. The front office, led by Stearns, has the prospect capital and financial backing to make an aggressive push. Whether they prioritize an outfield upgrade, rotation depth, or another bullpen arm, they have the assets—and the motivation. A strong showing at the MLB trade deadline would also serve as a vote of confidence in the current roster. Players like Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo have already commented on how much trust they have in leadership. That belief could turn into real momentum if reinforcements arrive. If the Mets press the gas now, they'll not only cement their spot in the playoff picture—they could become legitimate contenders to break their 10-year division title drought. Red Sox' Jarren Duran not stressing about trade deadline; ‘I love this team'
BOSTON — Red Sox left fielder Jarren Duran has been mentioned in trade rumors for months now. He put on a show Saturday, five days before the July 31 trade deadline. The 28-year-old speedster went 3-for-4 with two triples, one double and two RBIs, helping lead Boston to a 4-2 victory over the Dodgers at Fenway Park. 'It's always fun to run out a triple,' Duran said. He was the first Red Sox player with multiple triples in a game since Mookie Betts hit two July 13, 2018 against the Blue Jays. Duran joked about his close relationship with third base coach Kyle Hudson, pointing out Hudson made him slide into third on his game-tying two-run triple in the second inning, despite the Dodgers throwing to home plate. 'Huddy's not giving me much direction,' Duran said, smiling. 'He's making me slide over there at third every single time. So maybe one time he'll let me stand up over there.' Duran leads the American League in triples with 12. He trails only Arizona's Corbin Carroll (13 triples) for the MLB lead. It's not surprising that Duran, a left-handed hitter, has been mentioned in trade rumors. Boston has a surplus of left-handed hitting outfielders. The Red Sox could look to trade one of their left-handed bats to shore up another area of need on the roster like starting pitching. 'Honestly, that's probably one of the things I actually don't stress about,' Duran said about being mentioned in rumors. 'I have no control over it. So if it happens, it happens. But I don't have social media like Twitter and stuff like that. So I never kind of see any of that stuff. But my dad always keeps me on my toes and shoots one over to me every once in a while.' The Padres have had interest in trading for Duran for a couple of years now. MassLive's Sean McAdam reported Friday that the San Diego, in its never-ending quest to acquire Duran, proposed a package involving starter Dylan Cease, catching prospect Ethan Salas and another prospect (not shortstop Leo de Vries) for Duran, which the Red Sox quickly rejected. 'If it happens, it happens, but it's just all rumors for now, so I'm just gonna keep having fun with my boys,' Duran said. Duran also seems fine whether the front office adds at the deadline or stands pat. Boston could use a starting pitcher, late-inning reliever, first baseman and backup catcher. 'If they add, awesome. If they don't, awesome,' Duran said. 'We love the team we have, and we're just gonna roll with what we got. There's nothing we can control. We just gotta trust whatever they do is the best for the team.' The Red Sox currently hold a half-game lead over Texas for the third and final AL Wild Card spot. 'I love this team,' Duran said. 'Personally, I feel like we do it all. We can hit homers. We can run. We're athletic. We're young. And the best part about us being so young is if we lose the hard game, we're laughing and joking, flushing it, and we're ready to move on to the next game.' Duran said he still has some difficulty flushing failures himself. 'But having such a young group, they kind of keep you on your toes. It's like, 'Dude, who cares? We're going to play again tomorrow. We have another game tomorrow.' So that's always cool to have the young guys in here to keep us on our toes and keep us excited for the next day.' Insider: Cronin's Never Had a Point Guard Like This
No player in college basketball's transfer portal raised his new team's ceiling quite like New Mexico transfer point guard Donovan Dent did to the UCLA Bruins. Not only did he raise Mick Cronin's squad's ceiling, he impressed a ton of national media pundits, including CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, who came away from his Westwood visit thoroughly impressed and lamented Dent as one of Cronin's best point guards ever. "Mick Cronin has been coaching a long time, but he has never had a point guard as a head coach with the ceiling and passing capabilities of New Mexico transfer, Donovan Dent," Rothstein said in his reaction to UCLA on X (formerly Twitter). "[Dent] might be pound-for-pound, inch-for-inch, a top two point guard in college basketball in 25-26, along with Purdue's Braden Smith." Dent addresses a major issue Cronin's Bruins had (especially) down the stretch of last season -- offensive efficiency and creation. Bowing out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round to Tennessee, Cronin new exactly what needed to be addressed and he found the perfect solution in the SoCal kid. After finishing their first season in the Big Ten Conference with a 23-11 record UCLA's trajectory is looking up for next season. UCLA finished the season with the 164th overall offense with similar low rankings in field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and free throw shooting. With Dent addressing a dire need for improvement offensively, the Bruins are primed to build off the momentum of their inaugural season in the Big Ten by proving to be a true contender in the college basketball stratosphere. In an interview on the Big Ten Network, Bruins coach Mick Cronin had high praise for the former New Mexico guard. "The Mountain West was a tough league," Cronin said. "At the end of the year (it took Maryland) everything they had, a buzzer-beater to beat Colorado State. We had to play Utah State in the tournament. There's some good teams in that league and [Dent] was far and away the best player in that conference. "Point guard's a very position. It just makes your life a lot easier if you have a guy with the ball that can really do a lot of things."
