Int'l Space Station in Critical Condition, No Plans to Retire it Safely

On Friday, NASA confirmed that the International Space Station (ISS) is passing through the most complicated stage since its journey in space in 1998.
The safety committee said that if serious decisions are not made, its end could come sooner than expected.
These issues, including unresolved cracks, several manufactured parts, and a limited budget, are pushing the station into a high-risk situation.
In addition, there is no solid plan to retire it safely.
The Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP) warned that the ISS entered the most unstable phase of its existence.
The cracks in its Russian module, the lack of spare parts and the absence of an emergency retirement plan form a combination that worries experts like Rich Williams.
The Russian module Zvezda has been dragging problems since 2019. In April 2024, the air leak in the PrK transfer tunnel reached its highest level, the area had to be completely closed, and there is no plans for this.
ASAP has classified the problem at the highest risk level: 5 out of 5. NASA and Roscosmos will hold a meeting in Moscow to see the solutions to save the situation, although for now there is no consensus between the parties.

UN Member States to Adopt Voluntary Political Declaration to Solve Marine Crisis
Rana Atef More than 2,000 scientists and advocates from at least 100 countries participated in the One Ocean Science Congress, dedicated to the increasing marine crisis. 'The ocean is suffering at the cause of humanity,' said the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who spoke at the opening ceremony on Tuesday. She added, 'Either we save our oceans or the entire race will pay.' Rising sea temperatures due to global warming, ocean acidification, plastic pollution, and offshore oil and gas developments are some of the threats plaguing the ocean. 'Sound research shows global human health is intrinsically linked to a healthy ocean,' said Peter Thomson, the United Nations secretary-general's special envoy for the ocean. The ocean greatly contributes to producing more than half of the oxygen humans breathe, in addition to balancing Earth temperatures by absorbing excess heat and carbon dioxide. 3 billion people depend on the ocean for their daily activities, according to the United Nations. But, at the congress's opening ceremony, Thomson said, 'the ocean's health is currently, measurably in decline.' Now is the time to chart a new future for the ocean, he said. 'Faith has been placed upon this congress to serve as the scientific pillar of the U.N. Ocean Conference,' said Thomson. He added: 'We're expecting that the scientifically compiled conclusions of this congress will inform the leaders and the representatives of governments and civil society who will be attending the conference.' Japan's Resilience Lunar Mission Failed
Rana Atef On Thursday, Japan's private space company, Ispace, announced that its anticipated Resilience lunar mission failed. Reports highlighted that the lunar lander likely crashed into the moon. 'This is our second failure, and about these results, we have to really take it seriously,' Ispace's CEO Takeshi Hakamada said. The company's said that data sent back from the spacecraft to mission control before landing was different from the issue behind the 2023 lunar mission failure. 'The data that we've been looking at — it wasn't exactly the same as we have seen from the first mission,' said Ispace's Chief Technology Officer Ryo Ujiie. Tesla Shares Recover amid Calls to De-escalate Tensions between Trump, Musk
Taarek Refaat Tesla shares recovered from heavy losses amid signs that the rift between CEO Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump is easing, easing investor concerns about the potential political fallout for the electric car maker. Tesla shares rose 5% in early trading. Politico reported that Musk and Trump were expected to speak on Friday, but a White House official told Reuters there were no plans for a call. Musk indicated via his X social media platform that he was open to easing tensions with Trump. The dispute between Trump and Musk wiped more than $150 billion off Tesla's market value on Thursday, the company's largest single-day drop.
