Abhishek Bachchan recalls meeting Aishwarya Rai for the first time on a film recce, praises her for Aaradhya's upbringing: ‘She's amazing, selfless'
recently opened up about the first time he met his now-wife,
Aishwarya Rai
Bachchan, during a recent interview. The actor recalled their unexpected first meeting back in the late 1990s, when he was assisting on his father Amitabh Bachchan's film Mrityudaata and happened to visit the sets of Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, which starred Bobby Deol and Aishwarya.
'I was on a recce for my father's film Mrityudaata with Mr. Mehul Kumar and our head of production, Shagun Vag, in Switzerland. My mother had sent me there because I'd grown up in Switzerland and studied in boarding school, so they felt I'd be familiar with the locales. Around the same time, I was very close to Bobby Deol, who was shooting Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya.
The day we were out on our recce, we happened to walk onto a set where Bobby was shooting a scene with Aishwarya.
I think it was at the Zanin train station, right next to Shtar. That was the first time I saw her in person. Of course, we'd all seen her during the Miss World phase, but this was the first real-life meeting. That evening, Bobby invited me to their hotel for dinner, and that's where we actually met for the first time,' Abhishek shared with Nayandeep Rakshit.
'I remember Mickey Contractor, who did her makeup and knew me since childhood, was there too.
Aishwarya tells me she couldn't understand a word I said because of my British boarding school accent,' he laughed.
'She does the heavy lifting with Aaradhya' — Abhishek praises Aishwarya as a mother
The conversation then turned to their daughter,
Aaradhya Bachchan
, and how she's been raised with grace despite being in the public eye. Abhishek was quick to credit Aishwarya for their daughter's values and upbringing.
'I have to give the credit of that entirely to her mother.
I get to go out and make my movies, and Aishwarya does the heavy lifting with Aaradhya. She's amazing. And selfless,' he said.
He reflected on the instinctive nature of motherhood, adding, 'Mothers are wired differently. They prioritize their child above everything else. That's why our go-to person in life is always our mom. It holds true for me even today.'

'Electrifying': UK press in raptures on Oasis comeback
LONDON: British media on Saturday saluted rock legends Oasis as "electrifying" and even "biblical" after their opening comeback concert received an equally ecstatic reception from fans in Cardiff. The rockers, who shot to fame in the mid-1990s Britpop era, reeled off a string of their biggest hits in front of a 74,000-strong crowd in the Welsh capital on Friday, leaving those there in raptures. For the Daily Mail, "Oasis fans were blown away as the iconic band reunited after 16 years and delivered an electrifying set, packed with energy and nostalgia." "Oasis returned as if no time has passed at all," said the Daily Telegraph. Other media were equally gushing after brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher wowed their audience with a batch of top hits including "Morning Glory" and "Supersonic". "The band sound, to use Liam's favourite phrase, absolutely biblical," said Rolling Stone. For the Guardian newspaper, the concert was "a shameless trip back to the 90s for Britpop's loudest, greatest songs." The BBC said Oasis showed "a hunger and a passion that was missing from their last shows in 2009." The band will now play another 40 tour dates from their native Manchester as far away as Brazil and Japan with around 900,000 tickets sold to date.

The British Embassy poked fun at the United States by sharing a meme on social media that seemed to wish for unfavorable weather conditions in the country on Independence Day. British Embassy in Washington posted on X a meme as people across the US celebrated the federal holiday on Fourth of July. Taking to X, the British Embassy in Washington posted a meme as people across the US celebrated the federal holiday on Fourth of July. The embassy's account featured the well-known meme style, which consists of stills from a 2023 documentary series called Beckham that featured an interaction between English soccer player David Beckham and his musician wife, Victoria Beckham. A discussion between the two was envisioned, in which Victoria wished the US luck before concluding, 'I hope it pours down and the BBQs go out.' 'Enjoy your big day! Honestly...' the meme added. The British Embassy's mockery of the United States is a reflection of the two nations' historical history of strained relations. However, the two nations have maintained close ties, which UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill referred to as a 'special relationship' in the 1940s. Fourth of July celebrations in US Independence Day, often known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the US that honors the Declaration of Independence, which was adopted on July 4, 1776, when thirteen American colonies proclaimed their independence from Great Britain. Large crowds and fireworks are usually held to commemorate Fourth of July, but this year, a number of localities have canceled or postponed celebrations due to worries about congestion and immigration enforcement. Social media reacts to British Embassy's jibe The US Embassy in London has not reacted to the jibe and only wished Americans on X, 'Happy 4th of July everyone!'. 'This is the best 4th of July meme I've seen. Well played, Brits. Glad we are friends now,' one person said. 'British humour is impossible to beat,' another commented. 'That's a very long grudge. Still stings??' third person chimed in. 'British humor. Remember what you did to the DC in 1812? Yeah, we're still not over that,' the fourth person stated. A number of protests against the Trump administration, including marches and demonstrations, have been organised across the US over the weekend of Independence Day.
