NOT since former MP Lembit Opik dated a Cheeky Girl have we seen the worlds of pop music and politics combine to hit the headlines.
But they did just that this week, when singer Katy Perry and former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau were spotted on a romantic dinner date.

Former Canadian PM Justin resigned in January after pressure from within his party
The unlikely pair were pictured enjoying a low-key meal at Le Violon restaurant in Montreal on Monday, as Katy enjoyed a brief break from the Canadian leg of her world tour.
Eyewitnesses reported they 'sipped cocktails and shared several dishes . . . including one with lobster' before heading to the kitchen to thank the chef.
So was it a casual meeting of two unlikely friends?
Or the beginning of something much more amorous between a pair, who have both come out of high-profile relationships?

And with Justin being the son of two very free-loving parents, is he following in their frisky footsteps?
Cynics added a third option: this was a publicity stunt to repair both parties' damaged reputations.
But according to one well-placed source, Justin, 53, has been gunning for a date with 40-year-old Katy,
The source, who used to work with the former PM, told The Sun: 'Justin always enjoys nice company, and Katy is the kind of woman that really caught his attention.'
Katy announced her split from fiancé Orlando Bloom, 48, with whom she shares four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, earlier this month.
Justin, meanwhile, split from his TV host wife of 18 years, Sophie Gregoire, in 2023.

The source continued: 'He has been single for a while and has enjoyed getting to know Katy.
'He likes her personality. They click very well so far.
"They are going to see each other again soon.'
The source added that Katy is 'a breath of fresh air' for the former PM, who resigned in January after pressure from within his party.
But Justin and Katy have a surprising amount in common.
He is the dynastic politician whose late father, Pierre Trudeau, was the Canadian PM at the time of his birth.
She is the Californian pop princess who started singing gospel music before shifting to pop.
Both reached the highest rungs of their career ladders but have recently suffered falls from grace.
'PUBLICITY-SEEKING SPECTACLE'
Katy has seen her star power wane dramatically.
Last year, her new album 143 was named the lowest-scoring record ever on the review aggregation site Metacritic, with critics calling it 'boring' and 'pop trash'.
Then, in April, she was one sixth of the heavily criticised all-female, 11-minute Blue Origin space flight.
Katy said: 'We're putting the 'ass' in astronaut.'
And an ass is exactly how she ended up looking, after the mission was mocked as 'tone-deaf' and 'self-indulgent'.
She didn't do herself any favours by unveiling her tour's setlist while suspended in zero gravity.
Her detractors were vocal and, according to insiders, it had a knock-on effect on her nine-year relationship with Orlando.
The actor was reportedly mortified by the publicity-seeking spectacle and it contributed to their demise.
The pair later announced in a statement: 'Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting'.

Since then, Orlando has been enjoying being single, attending Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's lavish Venice wedding while Katy was on tour in Australia, where he reportedly flirted with female guests.
He has also been pictured partying at one of the Oasis gigs in Manchester, and watching the men's singles final at Wimbledon.
Until now, Katy had been focusing on her family and touring.
Stepping out with Justin this week sent a message to her ex and the world that she is ready to move on.
Justin has not been romantically linked to anyone since he split from presenter Sophie.
The pair had known each other from childhood but started dating in 2003 and married in 2005.
They share three children — Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and 11-year-old Hadrien.
Justin shocked followers when he announced via Instagram: 'Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate.

'As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we built and will continue to build.'
After having followed his father into politics, it seems right that Justin now also honours his father's reputation as a ladies' man.
When Pierre Trudeau became Prime Minister in 1968, he was labelled a 'swinging young bachelor'.
He dated Barbra Streisand the following year, though the singer later admitted: 'My brain was in love but not my body'.
In 1971, Pierre married Justin's mother, Margaret, who was 29 years his junior.
They had three sons together — Justin, and two younger brothers — but divorced in 1984.
Yet Pierre wasn't the only one known for his friskiness.
As their marriage crumbled, Margaret gained a reputation to rival her husband's.
In her 1982 book Consequences, she revealed she had had affairs with actors Jack Nicholson and Ryan O'Neal, and singer Lou Rawls.
She also famously partied with the Rolling Stones, prompting speculation she had slept with Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood on tour.
After their divorce, Pierre dated Superman actress Margot Kidder, before having another child with lawyer Deborah Coyne.

7
Justin's mother Margaret hung out with Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood
Rumours later linked him to actress Kim Cattrall and Bianca Jagger, though neither of those were confirmed before his death in 2000.
Combining Margaret and Pierre's sexual exploits, it is no surprise that their dashing son's love life has been rather bland in comparison, despite the unfounded gay rumours that have stalked his career.
Maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all, and hooking up with a pop star is Justin's next step in following in the Trudeau family tradition.

My 40 fabulous years covering Fergie from remote ranch to ski trip dance – and why she's so different to other royals

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IN a couple of months, Sarah Ferguson turns 66 and will become a pensioner. The significance of her next birthday, on October 15 means that I have now been working with Fergie for 40 fabulous years. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 8 In 1996, on the day Sarah Ferguson's marriage ended, Arthur took this photo of her with daughters Eugenie, right, and Beatrice at an equestrian event in West Sussex Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd 8 Arthur with the Duchess in 1992 at a restaurant in Klosters Credit: The Sun 8 The Sun's royal photographer Arthur Edwards has been taking snaps of Sarah for 40 years Credit: Paul Edwards Despite her ups and many downs over those four decades, Sarah, Duchess of York, as she is still known, is still one of my favourite royals. After being set up on a date engineered by Princess Diana, Fergie started going out with Prince Andrew who, back then in 1985, was one of the world's most eligible bachelors. Falklands hero 'Randy Andy' fell head over heels for the extrovert redhead, and the following year rumours of an engagement started to circulate. Every morning a huge mob of press photographers and camera crews would appear outside her office in London's West End to film her going in to work. 'Are you harassing me?' After three days, her father Major Ronald Ferguson, Prince Charles' polo manager, phoned me and asked: 'Is there anything you can do to make it easier for Sarah?' So, I spoke to all the photographers and said, 'Can we stand back, not hassle her, let her walk into work and we will still get good pictures.' Incredibly, everybody did as I asked but I'd spent so much time organising it I never got to take a photo myself. But in all the years I worked with Fergie after that, she never forgot what had happened that day. By July 1986, Sarah and Prince Andrew were getting married. Watch charming old footage of Fergie, as she makes it back into the Royal fold after being pictured with the Queen's dogs. Two nights before the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, I went on the Wogan show. I told Terry how I was desperate to take the kiss picture because five years earlier so many photographers had missed the shot of Charles and Diana kissing on the Buckingham Palace balcony. I didn't need to worry because Andy and Sarah kissed so often I shot a whole roll of film. Then Fergie cupped her ear in a message for me — we heard you, Arthur. She was a joy to work with, a joy to photograph and never once — however bad things were in her life — turned her back on me. In August 1990, her stepfather, Argentine polo player Hector Barrantes, was dying of cancer, age 51. 8 Swiss ski holiday with Beatrice, right, and Eugenie in 1990 Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd 8 Horse riding with Princess Beatrice in Argentina during trip in 1990 to see Sarah's mum Susan Barrantes Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd 8 Fergie at a charity fundraising event in Italy last month Credit: Getty Fergie travelled to Argentina with two-year-old Beatrice and Eugenie, who was just a babe in arms, to say a final farewell to her mother's second husband. I was sent out there and found myself at the gates of a ranch on the outskirts of a strange town nearly 350 miles south of Buenos Aires, where the banks had guards armed with machine guns. With no phone to contact Fergie, after an hour stood outside the gates I was wondering what to do when I spotted two horses walking slowly towards me. Dancing with Duchesses On one horse was Fergie with little Beatrice perched on the saddle and by her side rode her mother, Susan, who had left her husband's bedside so I could take a photograph. There were fun times too, like skiing in the Alps where she always gave me an exclusive picture, whether it was the girls blowing out candles on Andrew's birthday cake or when she fell and posed with her arm in a sling. I often joke that one of my hobbies is dancing with Duchesses. Fergie was the first Duchess I ever danced with. On a ski trip to Klosters in January 1992, I was in a restaurant when Fergie walked in. I spotted her and joked: 'Are you harassing me?' Suddenly an oompah band struck up a fast quickstep. I caught her eye and, with a nod, she said: 'How about it Arthur? Come on — let's boogie.' Fergie was just so different to any other member of the Royal Family. Arthur Edwards Before I knew it, my arm was around her waist and we were whirling around the floor. We must have been on our feet for 15 minutes. Later, her policeman came over and said: 'The Duchess says if you ask her to dance again, I can take a photo of you both.' There were other great photos along the way. But it isn't just because of her willingness to help me get a great picture that I like her. In Los Angeles she gave a speech at a convention when somebody shouted: 'I love you Fergie,' and she replied: 'I'll get your number later!' Fergie was just so different to any other member of the Royal Family. She made mistakes, like the 1992 'toe-sucking' incident in the south of France with her Texan millionaire financial advisor John Bryan, but she just couldn't cope with being bossed around by the men in grey suits at the Palace and decided to leave the Royal Family. 8 One of many kisses with Andrew on Buckingham Palace balcony at wedding in 1986 Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd 8 The couple's gesture to Arthur to show they had heard his request for photo of them kissing Credit: check copyright On the day her marriage to Andrew officially ended in 1996, she had taken the girls to a show-jumping competition at Hickstead, West Sussex. She told me: 'You were there at the beginning — you should be here at the end.' The following year she was staying with Beatrice and Eugenie at a fantastic private villa in Italy. The world's press were camped outside but I got a message saying: 'She'll be at this beach. Don't tell anyone — just go there.' I arrived at a little hut and got wonderful pictures of her and the girls preparing a picnic and running on the beach together. And when her friend Princess Diana died in that horrific crash in August 1997, I was at the airport in Paris when my phone rang. It was Fergie, who had been very close to Diana, asking if I was alright. Back into the fold Even though she is reaching pension age, I know she will carry on campaigning to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease and for her children's charities. Despite her fun-loving reputation, she is a worker. When she was £4million in debt she worked her socks off for WeightWatchers in America, flying to the US every week. She also worked for Wedgwood and Waterford Crystal in Ireland. I remember her telling me: 'It's so lovely not to have any more debt.' In 2022, the year the Queen died, I was invited by King Charles to take a special photograph of all the Royal Family after the Sandringham Christmas church service. I spotted Fergie looking out the window, and when she saw me she came rushing out to kiss and hug me. The King had invited her back into the fold. Even though they have been divorced for nearly 30 years, and I imagine there's been lots of tears and lots of anger, she will always be there for Andrew. One thing I know about the King is that he is a kind man who was never going to kick his brother and Fergie out of their home, Royal Lodge at Windsor. He's not that sort of person. Sarah and Andrew are still very close and will be until the day they die.

Grammy nominee 'embarrassed' as tour cancelled after plea to fans over gigs

JP Saxe, whose song If the World Was Ending, featuring Julia Michaels, was nominated for a Grammy in 2019, has announced that his solo tour has now been cancelled Singer-songwriter JP Saxe has announced that his tour has now been cancelled. The Grammy -nominated artist was due to embark on a series of headline shows next month but has told fans that they will no longer be going ahead. ‌ JP, 32, whose song If the World Was Ending, which featured his ex-partner Julia Michaels, received acclaim following its release in 2019, had announced the Make Yourself at Home tour in June. He was scheduled to visit a host of cities in his home country of Canada, the US, Brazil and several other countries on the tour in September and October. ‌ He however announced yesterday that the tour was cancelled and has said that he "didn't sell enough tickets," after sharing concern over the prospect. It comes after Taylor Swift sparks engagement rumours as fans spot Travis Kelce's lock screen. ‌ JP has told fans earlier this week that the tour was at risk of being cancelled. In a video on social media, he said: "I'm extremely embarrassed to tell you this but I'm going to tell you anyway. If I don't sell twenty or so thousand tickets to my tour in the next 48 hours, it's going to be cancelled." He continued: "If we're just not in a place yet to sell out these 2 or 3k cap venues, that's fine. It's always been my goal to connect deeply not widely and I stand by that." ‌ In a message to fans, JP said that "just in case" they were waiting until closer to the gigs to buy tickets "that approach" wouldn't work because there wouldn't be a show. He said: "Whether that happens or not, I'm grateful to you for caring about my songs and I hold on to a sliver of hope that I will see you in the fall." The singer said in the caption of the video, which was shared on platforms like TikTok, that he didn't want to cancel the tour. JP told his followers at the time in the post: "48 hrs… f*** being cool about it, I don't wanna cancel this s**t." He later shared that his friends had told him to "ask for help" from fans and issued another update yesterday. He said the more recent video: "Over the last few days we sold a few thousand extra tickets and I am beyond grateful to everyone of you who bought one. Those few thousand tickets are a reminder that being transparent in failure sometimes can be more powerful than the facade of success." ‌ The performer said that the reaction was also a reminder of how "wonderful" it can be to ask other people for help. He also wrote about watching a "community come together" and said it was the "nicest the internet has ever been" to him. JP, who confirmed that the tour won't be going ahead, continued: "But what those few thousand tickets are not is enough to save this tour. I'm really sorry. I'm so sorry. Every ticket purchase will be fully refunded with a small side of immense gratitude from a dorky ginger Canadian." ‌ He added: "I'm still a little embarrassed. I'm also feeling a lot of ambition to make sure this never happens again and just to make the most honest music I possibly can and the squad can grow and we can just have these full rooms but until then, I love you and I'm grateful to each one of you who bought a ticket and I'm really sorry." JP apologised again in the caption and said that he was "so grateful" for the way that fans have "shown up" for him lately. He said: "Thank you for giving a s**t about my music, I've certainly still got lots in me to share with you." In a guest column for Variety, published yesterday, JP said that his team were told last week that ticket sales "weren't where they needed to be". He said that it was suggested that he cancel the tour and then "try again next year". ‌ He said that it had felt "more embarrassing" before he publicly shared that the tour was at risk and suggested that he had "aimed too high" whilst recalling his initial post. JP said that once he had told his fans it felt "weirdly empowering" and he has suggested the experience will be better for his "growth". JP wrote in the recent article: "Applause for success is great. But there is something more interesting about being applauded for honesty in failure." He added: "It's not as good for my ego - but maybe it's better for my growth."

Christine spoke out about her sexuality for the first time recently, revealing she has dated both sexes since she was a teen. The Sun revealed her fling with a leading soap actress earlier this month. Their encounter came in 2023, the year after Christine split from her ex-Top Gear host husband, Paddy, 51. The well-known actress, whom we are not naming, has previously been in relationships with men. Months after their marriage ended, Christine was pictured kissing singer Chelcee Grimes, 33. It was revealed how Christine got "incredibly close" to footballer Chelcee before splitting from Paddy. Yet the songwriter's recent fallout with pal Christine recently came to light, with the real reason for the pair's toxic spat revealed. The former couple have since disconnected on social media. Now, opening up in an interview with The Mail, Christine has revealed her ex Paddy's reaction to her dating woman. Christine McGuinness gives update on relationship with Paddy after soap star fling She said: "We spoke about this after we separated – what are we comfortable with, how much did we want to share – because neither of us wants to wake up and find the other on the front page of a newspaper. "But it's been three years now, I don't need to know what he's doing and he doesn't need to know about me. "It just stays outside the home." Christine then continued to explain that she would never bring a date back home. She shrieked: "No way! Even if I lived on my own it would be a long time before I took that step. "I was messaging an amazing woman last year, and it took three months before I agreed to meet her for a date. Christine has also said she would never use a dating app and meets people through friends, as her public profile is too high. Christine refuses to discuss Paddy's romantic life. The implication is they have both moved on and their private lives are none of each other's business. But could she see herself getting married again? "No,' she said. " I don't mean I'm traumatised by marriage; I was just so young then. I didn't understand how you're legally tied to someone if you're married. "I want to be in a committed relationship, but I want the freedom to walk away." Paddy and Christine first met through a mutual friend in 2007, when she was 19 and he was 33. In 2020, she was diagnosed with autism and ADHD after spending the majority of her life confused as to why she acted differently from everyone else growing up. Since then, the TV star has been raising awareness for it through interviews, television shows and public speaking. 7 Christine couldn't see herself getting married again Credit: Instagram 7 Christine wouldn't bring a date back home Credit: Instagram 7 Christine has said she feels she's too well known to use a dating app Credit: Instagram/mrscmcguinness
