Sadie Sink celebrated the chance to sing again in film 'O'Dessa'
LOS ANGELES, March 19 (Reuters) - Sadie Sink felt vulnerable when singing in the Searchlight film 'O'Dessa,' but found joy in being part of a project that combined her love for both music and acting.
'That was the first time I've done that since I was really little,' the 'Stranger Things' actor told Reuters.
'Definitely like a challenge, but one that I was willing to take,' Sink added.
Sink began acting on Broadway as a child, including the lead role as the title character in the musical 'Annie.'
However, the now 22-year-old, took a long break from Broadway musical roles as her screen acting career took off, including the breakout role of Maxine "Max" Mayfield in the second season of the popular Netflix (NFLX.O), opens new tab series 'Stranger Things.'
'O'Dessa' is an American post-apocalyptic musical drama written and directed by Geremy Jasper. It follows a farm girl named O'Dessa, portrayed by Sink, who embarks on a journey to recover a precious family heirloom and rescue her true love named Euri Dervish, played by Kelvin Harrison Jr.
The movie also stars Murray Bartlett and Regina Hall as the antagonists Plutonovich and Neon Dion.
The film, which premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film and Television Festival on March 8, will begin streaming on Hulu on Thursday.
For Jasper, "O'Dessa" combines his affinity for 'Americana folklore and European fairy tales and science fiction."
Being a musician who grew up in the 80's and early 90's inspired the 'Patti Cake$' director to collage 'operatic' and 'psychedelic music' together, but it wasn't always easy to blend so much into one musical movie.
"I was trying to figure out a story that could contain all of those things, and so, that's what 'O'Dessa' became,' he added.

A film adaptation of the book was previously made in 1985 by director Héctor Babenco. Both the film and the Broadway show were critically acclaimed, scoring various awards and accolades. It's a whole new vibe for this singer, dancer and actress William Hurt, who played Molina in the feature, won an Oscar for Best Actor. Meanwhile, the musical earned a whopping seven Tony Awards, including one for best musical. Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January. Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen meet up in Liverpool during flying visit to LIPA
Music legends Sir Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen have met up as The Boss prepares to perform the second of two shows at Anfield as part of his current UK tour. The pair were visiting Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) on Mount Street, which Macca co-founded. Springsteen, 75, has made no secret of his admiration for the Fab Four, crediting the Beatles with heavily shaping his musical tastes, and he h's described performing on Merseyside as the fulfilment of a long-held dream. Members of the E-Street band Max Weinberg and Steven Van Zandt were also spotted making their way into LIPA through the crowds outside, all of which has fuelled wild speculation about whether Sir Paul will join Bruce on stage at Saturday night's concert. If he does it would not be the first time the pair have played together, with Springsteen joining Sir Paul on stage as a special guest during the 82-year-old's headline set at Glastonbury Festival in 2022. They also met up for additional gigs at Hyde Park and at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Growing up as a teenager in New Jersey as the Beatles took the USA by storm with a legendary appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, The Boss told audiences at Anfield: "It is great for us to be in Liverpool where, for us, it all began."
