Sadie Sink celebrated the chance to sing again in film 'O'Dessa'
LOS ANGELES, March 19 (Reuters) - Sadie Sink felt vulnerable when singing in the Searchlight film 'O'Dessa,' but found joy in being part of a project that combined her love for both music and acting.
'That was the first time I've done that since I was really little,' the 'Stranger Things' actor told Reuters.
'Definitely like a challenge, but one that I was willing to take,' Sink added.
Sink began acting on Broadway as a child, including the lead role as the title character in the musical 'Annie.'
However, the now 22-year-old, took a long break from Broadway musical roles as her screen acting career took off, including the breakout role of Maxine "Max" Mayfield in the second season of the popular Netflix (NFLX.O), opens new tab series 'Stranger Things.'
'O'Dessa' is an American post-apocalyptic musical drama written and directed by Geremy Jasper. It follows a farm girl named O'Dessa, portrayed by Sink, who embarks on a journey to recover a precious family heirloom and rescue her true love named Euri Dervish, played by Kelvin Harrison Jr.
The movie also stars Murray Bartlett and Regina Hall as the antagonists Plutonovich and Neon Dion.
The film, which premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film and Television Festival on March 8, will begin streaming on Hulu on Thursday.
For Jasper, "O'Dessa" combines his affinity for 'Americana folklore and European fairy tales and science fiction."
Being a musician who grew up in the 80's and early 90's inspired the 'Patti Cake$' director to collage 'operatic' and 'psychedelic music' together, but it wasn't always easy to blend so much into one musical movie.
"I was trying to figure out a story that could contain all of those things, and so, that's what 'O'Dessa' became,' he added.

Look away Ben! Jennifer Lopez kisses a major movie star on the lips for sexiest role yet... after divorcing Affleck
Jennifer Lopez has landed her sexiest role to date. The 55-year-old diva was seen in silky lingerie while locking lips with Diego Luna, 45, in the first trailer for her movie Kiss Of The Spider Woman. And, interestingly, the film has been executive produced by her ex-husband Ben Affleck as well as his best friend Matt Damon. The film is a new version of the 1993 Broadway musical, which was based on Manuel Puig's 1976 novel of the same name. Lopez plays an imaginary figure named Aurora, who was dreamed up by jailed gay hairdresser Luis Molina (Tonatiuh). The musical from director Bill Condon is set to debut on October 10, 2025. In the story, Molina is serving eight years behind bars 'for corrupting a minor.' He imagines films starring Aurora - in a role previously played by Sonia Braga - to escape his misery while imprisoned. The Bronx-bred actress plays an imaginary figure named Aurora, who was dreamed up by jailed gay hairdresser Luis Molina The film stars Tonatiuh (pictured) as the hairdresser and Luna as his cellmate. In one of the fantasized productions, Aurora embodies a spider woman who kisses her victims to kill them. Throughout the narrative, Molina forms a connection with his cellmate Valentin Arregui (Luna), who's a Marxist. Rehearsals began in February 2024, and filming kicked off in New Jersey in April. A film adaptation of the book was previously made in 1985 by director Héctor Babenco. Both the film and the Broadway show were critically acclaimed, scoring various awards and accolades. It's a whole new vibe for this singer, dancer and actress William Hurt, who played Molina in the feature, won an Oscar for Best Actor. Meanwhile, the musical earned a whopping seven Tony Awards, including one for best musical. Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January. It will be released in theaters on October 10, 2025. Other films that Jennifer and Ben worked on together include This Is Me... Now and Unstoppable. They also collaborated on a hilarious Dunkin' Donuts commercial with Damon. Jennifer and Ben - who used to be called Bennifer - met on the set of the comedy Gigli over 20 years ago. Lopez recently wrapped filming on her latest romantic comedy Office Romance, in which she stars alongside 43-year-old Brett Goldstein, best known for his role in Ted Lasso. Her shoot concluded shortly before Jennifer and her former partner Affleck, 51, reportedly made a significant reduction to the asking price of their mansion in Bel Air, California . According to a report by TMZ, the couple dropped the price of the 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom estate from $68 million to $60 million, after originally purchasing the property in May 2023 for $60,850,000. The property was first listed for sale in July 2024. Sources told TMZ Ben had been pushing for the price cut, reportedly urging Jennifer to agree so the house would sell. 'Ben wants to get rid of it because their divorce is over and he wants to cut all ties and have it be done,' an insider said. 'He just wants it over and to sell it. He wants to reduce the price.' Another source told TMZ: 'Jennifer thinks they can get more money for the home, so she wants to keep the price as is. But the real estate market is not there and it's not selling.' Experts cited by the site said the estate was overpriced, suggesting it would need to be reduced by at least 15 percent to attract buyers. Insurance costs have also proven a deterrent, with annual fire insurance for the hillside property estimated at $500,000. Wildfires in Southern California earlier this year further intensified concerns. In August 2024, one month after the listing, Jennifer and Ben reportedly accepted a $64 million offer from a New Jersey couple, only for the deal to fall through due to a family bereavement. Can you guess the location of each album cover?
David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust cover was shot as monochrome and vividly coloured afterwards but it's of a real location can you guess the place and for the locations for seven other iconic album covers Fans were stunned when American pop-rock band Haim featured a photo of themselves on Portland Street near Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens on the front of their new single, Take Me Back. They are far from the only band to put a UK street firmly on the uber-cool place map by using it on a record cover. The Beatles did it, as did Oasis, The Clash, The Jam, The Streets and Madness - to name but a few - as this great gallery of album covers shows. Now it's time to put your musical and geographical knowledge to the test. Take a look at the album covers and the photographs and see if you can name that street! 1. Manchester's Oasis went down south to film the cover of this iconic album, which celebrates its 20th anniversary. The setting was a popular location for record shops in the 1990s. 2. The Jam's 1977 masterpiece This Is the Modern World shows Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, lurking under an overpass. That same year The Clash refers to the same road in their song about a certain city burning. 3. And pigs might fly … according to Pink Floyd's 1977 Animals album cover. But where is the landmark, that has recently had a very impressive facelift? 4. David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust cover was shot as monochrome and vividly coloured afterwards. The K West sign that hung above a furrier in 1982 has now been removed, but it remains an iconic street for Bowie fans 5. In 1977, The Clash released their debut studio album with a cove true to the spirit of punk rock—in a bohemian area popular with rebels young and old and home to iconic music venues like The Roundhouse. 6. The Beatles made this zebra crossing famous worldwide when it was used on the cover of their1969 studio album. Fans still flock here to recreate the image, outside the recording home of the Merseyside beat. But where is it? Lamar's 2015 Pimp A Butterfly album cover was shot in atmospheric monochrome and features a large group of black men and children, plus a baby cradled by Lamar himself on this US lawn, belonging to possibly the world 's most famous house. 8. English rapper Mike Skinner from The Streets chose this building in East Anglia for his 2011 Computer and Blues album after playing a student gig here. Answers: What's The Story Morning Glory, Berwick Street. Soho, London. The Westway, West London Battersea Power Station 23 Heddon Street, Soho, London, Alleyway directly opposite the band's 'Rehearsal Rehearsals' HQ in Camden Market, North London Abbey Road, near Abbey Road Studios, North West London The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen meet up in Liverpool during flying visit to LIPA
Music legends Sir Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen have met up as The Boss prepares to perform the second of two shows at Anfield as part of his current UK tour. The pair were visiting Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) on Mount Street, which Macca co-founded. Springsteen, 75, has made no secret of his admiration for the Fab Four, crediting the Beatles with heavily shaping his musical tastes, and he h's described performing on Merseyside as the fulfilment of a long-held dream. Members of the E-Street band Max Weinberg and Steven Van Zandt were also spotted making their way into LIPA through the crowds outside, all of which has fuelled wild speculation about whether Sir Paul will join Bruce on stage at Saturday night's concert. If he does it would not be the first time the pair have played together, with Springsteen joining Sir Paul on stage as a special guest during the 82-year-old's headline set at Glastonbury Festival in 2022. They also met up for additional gigs at Hyde Park and at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Growing up as a teenager in New Jersey as the Beatles took the USA by storm with a legendary appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, The Boss told audiences at Anfield: "It is great for us to be in Liverpool where, for us, it all began." As an additional nod to the Beatles he performed a version of Twist and Shout in the encore. Originally sung by The Top Notes the classic became synonymous with The Beatles when they released a cover version in 1963, and Springsteen has often played it on live shows previously. However, Wednesday's performance was just the second time the song has featured on the Land Of Hope and Dreams tour setlist so far. The power of the iconic venue itself was not lost on the American star, referencing Liverpool FC 's Premier League title win this season as he told the crowd: "'Come on! Is this the house of champions or what?'' Never afraid to speak his mind, the Boss also continued his war of words with President Donald Trump. Before he opened the show with My Love Will Not Let You Down, he said: "The America I love and have sung to you about for so long, a beacon of hope for 250 years, is currently in hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration. "Tonight we ask all of you who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise your voices, stand with us against authoritarianism and let freedom ring!' Before Rainmaker, he said: "When conditions in a country are ripe for a demagogue, you can bet one will show up. This is for America's dear leader." Ahead of House of A Thousand Guitars, he said: 'The last check on power, after the checks and balances have failed, are the people. That's all that's left. "It's in the union of people around a common set of values. That's all that stands between democracy and authoritarianism.
