J-K assembly must pass resolution for statehood restoration, says Sajad Lone
People's Conference leader Sajad Gani Lone on Thursday said the Jammu and Kashmir government should call an emergency session of the Legislative Assembly to pass a resolution for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Independence Day 2025 Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji gave India its own currency Swadeshi 2.0: India is no longer just a market, it's a maker "Trust me. A very sincere advice. Call an emergency session in the next two days and let us pass a resolution," Lone said in a statement here. Pointing to Supreme Court proceedings on the plea for statehood restoration , the Handwara MLA said there is a need to form a common front over the issue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 21st Century Skills Start with Confident Communication Planet Spark Learn More Undo "And to our chief minister sahib, you have dealt with BJP in the past. I too have dealt with them. One unsolicited advice. When talking to them, what matters is not what they tell you. What matters is what they DON'T tell you. One more advice. Get off your high horse. Stop persecuting the opposition. Stop punitive transfers. Restrain your ministers from, 'you know what I mean'. And make a common front for statehood first," he said. Lone said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should have got the resolution for statehood restoration passed by the Legislative Assembly instead of by his cabinet. Live Events "And the institution for that is the Assembly, not the cabinet. You could have sent that resolution to the Supreme court today if you had allowed us to pass that resolution," he said. Moreover, the former minister said, there was a dangerous trend of petitioners with no representative character approaching the court on constitutional matters. "It will be interesting to see who went to the Supreme Court for statehood. Any 'Tom, Dick and Harry' having direct access into matters of constitutional importance such as statehood is very very dangerous," he said "Who is presenting our case? Who is the lawyer? Is he competent and honest in representing us? And how will the Supreme Court intervene and take a decision on such an important matter without seeking the opinion of the elected government or the Assembly?" he asked.

'Kagaz mitao, Adhikaar churao': Rahul Gandhi accuses BJP of 'stealing' Bahujan rights by deleting voters; claims tribal land records missing in Chhattisgarh
LoP in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi (Image credits: PTI) NEW DELHI: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) of 'stealing' the rights of Bahujans by removing their names from voter lists and 'disappearing' forest rights titles of Adivasis. In a post on X Thursday, Gandhi alleged, citing a news report, that in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, more than half of the forest rights titles have vanished from government records, while in Bastar, 2,788 such titles have 'suddenly' gone missing. 'Kagaz mitao, Adhikaar churao – the BJP has made this a new weapon for the oppression of Bahujans. On one hand, they remove the names of Dalits and backward classes from the voter list, and on the other, they make the forest rights titles of tribals 'disappear,'' he wrote. He said the Congress had enacted the Forest Rights Act to protect the water, forest, and land of tribals, while the BJP is weakening it and 'snatching their primary rights.' Calling tribals the 'first owners' of the country, Gandhi asserted, 'We will protect their rights at all costs.' The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006- also known as the Forest Rights Act- grants legal rights to forest-dwelling Scheduled Tribes and other traditional communities for the ownership and use of forest land and resources, reported ANI. The law was enacted to address historical wrongs from the colonial era, when Adivasis and other forest dwellers were criminalised for using forest resources.
