One major obstacle will stop Gen Z ticking off their bucket list this summer

Daily Mirror21-07-2025
Research shows that Gen Z will struggle to complete their TikTok-inspired summer bucket list due to a lack of access to a car.
Four in ten Gen Zers are set to miss out on completing their bucket lists – all because they lack access to a car. A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that, although many young people hold a driving license, an additional 16 percent are unable to hit the road because they do not have insurance.

As a result, many young adults are missing out on summer bucket list plans such as impromptu road trips or visiting trending food destinations. A third also expressed a desire to attend a festival this summer, with Reading and Leeds topping the list of dream summer events.

The study was conducted by Veygo, which has launched a competition to win a 'Gig in a Limo' experience with pop sensation and Reading Festival act Nieve Ella, including tickets to the festival, aiming to make those summer bucket list dreams come true.
Nieve Ella, the singer-songwriter whose Instagram followers can enter the contest, commented: "Festivals are a rite of passage for many young people this summer. But getting there – especially with your mates – isn't always simple."
Two thirds had planned their summer inspired by the content they've seen on social media. Further findings from the research highlighted the top viral UK spots featured on summer bucket lists – such as Loch Lomond, the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, and Cheddar Gorge.

Loch Lomond's wild beauty has sparked a social media frenzy, with over 630,000 Instagram posts featuring paddleboarding, wild dips, and picturesque treks.
Portmeirion in North Wales, reminiscent of an Italian village, has also caught the attention of TikTokers, generating over 10,000 videos, while Northern Ireland's Giant's Causeway is another hot topic online.

A OnePoll survey reveals a keen interest in visiting Chatsworth House in the Peak District, which has amassed over 22 million TikTok views.
Meanwhile, Tenby Harbour in South Wales and Bourton-on-the-Water, dubbed the 'Venice of the Cotswolds', are also on many wish lists.
James Armstrong, a young driver specialist from Veygo, commented: "Summer should be about saying yes – to last-minute plans and unforgettable moments with friends. But all too often, access to a car or insurance holds young people back."
"We are putting them in the driving seat of their summer with our flexible range of insurance options, helping them unlock their bucket list plans, on their terms."

'I'm a rare coin collector – how to spot 50p listed for whopping £15k online'

Some rare coins can sell for an absolute fortune online, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's got the correct price tag. So how do you spot a 50p worth £15,000? It's no secret certain change can hold a mega value, whether it's three £1 coins worth hundreds or a "super rare" 50p coin that could sell for £40,000 online. Now we know rare coins are all the rage at the moment, so do you own this special piece worth loads? ‌ Over on Instagram, user @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 31,000 followers, revealed how a Paddington Bear piece was listed for an eye-watering £15,000 on eBay. But despite seeing that hefty price tag on selling websites, it doesn't necessarily mean it's worth that staggering amount at all, so how can you tell the difference? ‌ The post read: "£15,000 for a Paddington Bear 50p?! Let's find out more... ‌ "You've probably seen the headlines or eBay listings claiming someone's selling a Paddington Bear 50p for £15,000... But is it really worth that much?" He added: "No. Not even close." Speaking in the post, the coin expert revealed how these pieces are made in huge numbers, especially the 2018 and 2019 versions showing Paddington at the Station, the Palace, the Tower and St Paul's. ‌ "They're fun to collect, but... Anyone can list a coin for any price on eBay," the expert continued: "That doesn't mean it's actually worth it, or that anyone will ever pay it." So how can you tell if it's worth that amount? Paddington Bear 50p coins are worth their value, but in some cases can go for a couple of pounds. But if they're in a sealed collector's pack or a rare error (which is unlikely), this can differ. Also listings which ask for thousands are just trying to trick people who don't know better, the Coin Collecting Wizard admitted. ‌ He concluded: "If you see a crazy price online – always check with someone who knows before you get too excited. That's what I'm here for!" The 2018 Paddington Bear 50p coin was issued by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic bear. It features Paddington on his suitcase in front of the station, wearing the famous tag around his neck. This is the first time Paddington ever featured on official UK coinage with serious collectors keen to get their claws on one in the best possible condition. Even the newest and shiniest standard collection coins have numerous scratches and marks, but The Royal Mint issue specifically struck collector quality "Brilliant Uncirculated" coins which are guaranteed not to have the scratches and chips.

'Spellbinding' village with 'haunted hotel' and witchcraft museum is 'beautiful'

The quaint village is steeped in history and regularly attracts visitors interested in the occult Cornwall is one of the United Kingdom's most breathtaking counties. It's also considered one of the most magical, steeped in legend. Perched on North Cornwall's clifftops, Tintagel Castle is one of the most popular attractions. It's rumoured to be the site where King Arthur was conceived, and visitors can explore Merlin's Cave on the beach below when the tide is out. ‌ St Nectan's Glen, a sacred valley with a 60-foot waterfall and stacked fairy stones, is another popular spot for those visiting Tintagel, and just ten minutes down the road, visitors will find a village that's "beautiful and magical." ‌ Boscastle, a small harbour village, is beloved for its stunning views, quaint shops, and mystical atmosphere. One visitor who documented her visit on TikTok as @thetaniachronicles described the "most bewitched" village as "England's equivalent of Salem." ‌ For over 50 years, Boscastle has been home to The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. The independent museum is home to "one of the world's largest and most spellbinding collections of folk magic artefacts," according to National Geographic, and on TripAdvisor, the museum has over 800 'excellent' reviews. One impressed visitor wrote: "Came here with friends, it had been on our list for ages and it didn't disappoint! After a hike along the coast from Tintagel, we reached the Boscastle harbour, which was in itself a spellbinding experience! The museum had thousands of artefacts, and we left feeling inspired and more knowledgeable than before! Will be back." ‌ Nearby, visitors will find The Wellington Hotel, one of the region's oldest coaching inns, and one of the most haunted - if rumours are to be believed. With over 500 'excellent' reviews on TripAdvisor, guests have praised the "best food and service" in the restaurant and the "cosy accommodation," and many said they loved hearing ghost stories. One reviewer wrote: "The hotel featured in the Most Haunted TV series although disappointingly we never saw any ghosts although several people including staff have and are happy to share their experiences if you want!" Another claimed: "Staff, hotel and food all excellent. Ghosts a bit scary tho. Kept up all night with various footsteps, noises, shadows and door rattles. Culminating in a rather nasty encounter later on. We nearly left at 4am but the excellent dinner the night before had wetted our appetite for breakfast." ‌ Along with gift shops, restaurants, and a National Trust cafe, there are several walking routes for those who enjoy coastal paths. Visit Cornwall says: "For fantastic coastal views take the left hand path alongside the harbour which leads to a slate platform where you can see the 'blowhole' an hour before or after low tide, shooting a horizontal waterspout halfway across the harbour entrance if the conditions are right. You can follow the coast path up to Willapark, where the National Coastwatch have a watch-house high on the headland. "The path on the other side of the harbour leads past the Witchcraft Museum out onto Penally Point, again this provides walkers with fantastic views but can be difficult underfoot in places." Alternatively, visitors can take in the views from Boscastle Harbour, which has over 300 'excellent' reviews on TripAdvisor. Someone praised: "Just breathtaking in the sheer rugged unspoilt natural beauty of the landscape here. We visited in April and thought the village was lovely and the coastline is really something. It's very atmospheric and as we walked back to the car we bought a steak and Stilton pasty from the little bakery. Simply delicious!" Another fan said: "A magical and mystical place," while someone echoed: "Beautiful and magical! I would highly recommend the walk to the harbour which is gorgeous. The views and the colour of the water is stunning." Boscastle is in Cornwall, England. The postcode for the visitor centre is PL35 0HD. The closest train station is Bodmin Parkway.

Jessie J targeted by vile trolls after sharing heartbreak over Hamas hostage video

Jessie J, who this week spoke candidly about her ongoing health struggles following recent surgery for breast cancer, received a torrent of online abuse after an Instagram post Jessie J faced a torrent on online abuse after she shared her sadness at footage of an Israeli hostage captured by Hamas. ‌ The singer, 37, called images of emaciated Evyatar David "heartbreaking" as he was forced to dig what appeared to be his own grave. She wrote on Instagram: "I just cannot bear the evil in this world. Please, God, make the suffering end." ‌ The Brit Award-winning musician also included a quote from a pro-Israel activist in her post to her 14 million Instagram followers. However, trolls targeted the star, who was recently rushed to hospital with an infection weeks after breast cancer surgery. The abuse comes after Katie Price recently worried her fans on Instagram with a family photo. ‌ Following her post, Jessie, from Chadwell Heath, east London, was branded a "disgusting Zionist" while another troll called her a "terrorist and baby killer supporter" among the sickening barrage of abuse. Another vile troll claimed she was trying to keep her "Zio bosses happy". ‌ The musician, who has had three UK number one singles, had referred to a hostage who was abducted by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, massacre at the Nova music festival. He has been held in Gaza for the 668 days since then. In addition to her own thoughts, mum-of-one Jessie included a quote from the poem, which read: "I thought images of starved Jews digging their own graves would forever be confined to history books. To see the past become present is a horror. Never Again. Again." Some, though, showed the Londoner their support, thanking her for bringing the horrors to the attention of social media users. One person posted: "Thank for speaking out about the actual horrors going on." Another said: "Thank you for your bravery in speaking out against the treatment of the starving hostages." It was another emotional post from the star, famed for tunes such as Domino and Price Tag, following ones about her health battle. After she was rushed to hospital weeks after her cancer operation, Jessie J joked: "Apparently it's called… Dramatic? I think that's the spelling. My symptoms are the same and no idea what's wrong yet. But my sarcasm and sense of humour are holding on." Filming herself for what she called her first "real‑time" update since her operation, Jessie admitted: "I think people think I'm hanging on by a thread… which in some moments has felt that way." The singer added: "Like two or three days ago when I woke up and I couldn't breathe. I still have pain in my chest when I breathe, but it's not as bad."
