AUS vs SA, 2nd T20I: Dewald Brevis justifies 'AB Baby' tag with record-breaking display; South Africa level series against Australia

South Africa ended Australia's nine-match winning streak with a 53-run victory on Tuesday, levelling the three-match series at 1-1, thanks to Dewald Brevis's record T20 century.
Brevis, aged 22, scored an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls with eight sixes and 12 fours, breaking Faf du Plessis's South African record of 119 against the West Indies in 2015.
After Australian captain Mitchell Marsh chose to field, Brevis showcased his batting skills to help South Africa reach 218-7 on the same wicket where Australia had defended 178 two days earlier.

Australia's chase began well with Tim David scoring 50 off 24 balls, but after his dismissal in the 10th over, the team collapsed and was bowled out for 165 in 17.4 overs.
"I have not really thought about it (the record), but extremely grateful. Just happy we won today, great to be out here on the winning side," Brevis said after receiving his player of the match award.
Young South African bowler Kwena Maphaka took 3-57, following his four-wicket performance in the first game by dismissing Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Owen.
South Africa demonstrated excellent fielding despite the dew, with Nqabayomzi Peter making a remarkable low catch at mid-wicket to dismiss Green off Maphaka's bowling.
Australia's fielding was poor, with substitute Matthew Kuhnemann dropping Brevis after his half-century, and Adam Zampa missing a catch from Lhuan-dre Pretorius during the powerplay.
Brevis and Tristan Stubbs formed a crucial 126-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with Stubbs contributing 31 off 22 balls.
Brevis dominated the spinners Zampa and Maxwell after his reprieve at 56, and later targeted Josh Hazlewood, completing his second fifty in just 16 balls.
The partnership ended when Zampa caught Stubbs at backward point. Despite Australia taking four late wickets, Brevis's innings had already secured a commanding total for South Africa.
"He is a young, powerful man," Marsh said. "An upcoming player in international cricket and well played to him. Chasing that down was going to be tough. We needed a few partnerships early and could not do that."
The series will conclude on Saturday, followed by a three-match ODI series between the teams.

Why a New York Rangers forward spends his summers in a Connecticut basement

Brett Berard (via Getty Images) When 22-year-old Brett Berard makes his way downstairs every evening, it's not because he's avoiding the world. The New York Rangers forward is spending his NHL off-season living with the Fiorita family—an unabashedly Rangers-obsessed family that has unofficially claimed him as one of their own. From NHL ice to driveway basketball Brett Berard, signed in 2020, is in the final year of his three-year entry-level agreement. Although his NHL salary will increase shortly, his present two-way contract pays him $80,000 when he skates for the New York Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack—a far cry from the multimillion-dollar deals fans envision. That's how Rhode Island-born Brett Berard found himself in suburban Connecticut. During summer training with strength coach Ben Prentiss in Stamford, Brett Berard spoke of his intentions to a friend he had grown up with, who just so happened to know the Fioritas. In a matter of days, the situation was arranged. For the Fioritas, whose four kids were raised on Rangers hockey, it was a no-brainer "yes." Missy Fiorita remembers, 'Anyone that could would do this,' Brett Berard says. 'I live all year by myself, so it's kind of a second family away from my family.' Life with the Fioritas Berard fit easily into everyday life. Mornings begin with eggs—sometimes five eggs at once—followed by gym sessions and skating drills. Afternoons can include pool workouts or golf games with Matthew Fiorita, the family club champion. Evenings are for TV viewing, movies, driveway basketball, or competitive Rummikub until Missy instructs him to get some rest. He makes use of the main floor bathroom, showers upstairs as the rest of the household does, and sometimes takes over a sibling's bedroom when weary of hotel life for the season. The basement setup benefits all parties—Berard avoids rent, and the Fioritas enjoy a front-row view of his NHL adventure. But it's not without surprises, such as the evening last summer when Berard returned home cradling his jaw following a skate. His teeth had been displaced by an injury, and by dawn Missy was taking him to an oral surgeon in White Plains. But for now, the basement in Darien is his summer home. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

AUS vs SA: Corbin Bosch penalised for celebration; handed demerit point for 'provocative' act

Corbin Bosch celebrates after taking the wicket of Ben Dwarshuis of Australia during game two in the T20 International series (Photo by) South Africa all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been handed a penalty for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Australia in Darwin on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the 17th over of Australia's innings when Bosch, after dismissing Ben Dwarshuis, made a gesture towards the opposition dugout in what officials deemed a provocative send-off. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! According to the ICC, Bosch was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the Code, which covers 'using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.' As a result, one demerit point has been added to Bosch's disciplinary record. He accepted the sanction proposed by the ICC Match Officials, meaning no formal hearing was required. The match itself was a high-scoring affair, with South Africa looking to level the three-match series after losing the opener. Dewald Brevis stole the show with a remarkable 125 not out from 56 balls, guiding the visitors to 218/7. His hundred came in just 41 balls, making him the youngest Men's T20I centurion for South Africa and registering the second-fastest T20I ton for the Proteas. Australia's chase was led by Tim David, who hit a brisk half-century off 24 balls. However, the hosts were bowled out for 165, with Bosch and Kwena Maphaka both taking three wickets each to seal a 53-run victory for South Africa. Poll Do you think Corbin Bosch deserved the penalty for his gesture towards the dugout? Yes, it was unsportsmanlike No, it was just a competitive reaction The series now stands at 1-1, with the decider scheduled for Saturday, 16 August, in Cairns. The ODI series between the two sides begins on 19 August. In the same game, Bosch was left frustrated when a delivery to Mitchell Owen grazed the stump, but the bail failed to come off. In disbelief, Bosch was forced to accept that Owen survived despite the lights on the bail coming on. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
