Driver, assistant of electronic goods lorry killed on NSE
Batu Pahat district police chief, ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said those who died in the accident at 8.30 am were driver R Pubalan, 45, and his assistant, R Sivasanthiran, 35.
According to him, initial investigations found that the incident occurred when the lorry carrying electronic goods, crashed into the back of a timber trailer.
'As a result of the collision, the timber lorry went on to crash into an oil tanker.
'The two victims, who suffered serious head, chest and leg injuries, were confirmed dead at the scene while the driver of the timber lorry who sustained minor leg and chest injuries was taken to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI), Batu Pahat. However, the driver of the oil tanker was not injured,' he said in a statement.
Shahrulanuar said the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and members of the public who witnessed the incident could come forward to any nearby police station.

Melaka JPJ cracks down on unlicensed foreign drivers
MELAKA: A targeted enforcement by Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) resulted in the arrest of six Myanmar nationals and the seizure of a luxury Toyota Alphard. State JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said the foreigners, made up of five men and one woman aged between 25 and 30, were stopped at the Jasin toll plaza exit here at about 10am on Tuesday (Aug 12) during Operasi Pemandu Warga Asing (Op Pewa). The operation, she said, focused on foreign drivers without valid documents. "Checks revealed that none of the six could produce legal identification and the man behind the wheel had no valid driving licence. 'They were handed over to the police for further action," she said today. Siti Zarina said the vehicle, which was registered under the name of a Malaysian man, was also seized for investigation. She said throughout the operation, officers inspected 56 vehicles and found that 38 of them had committed various traffic offences. "In total, 119 notices were issued under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and a total of 38 vehicles were seized, comprising 36 motorcycles and two cars. "The most common offences were driving without a licence, expired road tax, and the absence of insurance coverage," she said. Siti Zarina added that JPJ also carried out Ops Khas Luxury, an enforcement effort aimed at imported and high-end vehicles that fail to comply with traffic regulations. "Since January, we have seized 10 luxury vehicles for expired road tax and no insurance while seven of these were confiscated during 'Ops Luxury', which has been running nationwide since July 1,' she said. Among the vehicles seized were Porsche, Bentley, BMW, Tesla, Toyota Alphard and Kia models, with a combined estimated value of nearly RM5mil.

Elderly man killed in motorcycle–lorry collision in Kota Belud

District police chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said initial investigations found the lorry, driven by a 60-year-old man, was turning right when it sideswiped the victim's motorcycle. AKPS seizes six vehicles and RM30,000 worth of diesel at Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint

Bukit Kayu Hitam AKPS commander Senior Asst Comm Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir said the seizure was made on Tuesday (Aug 12) morning after an inspection of three trailer lorries and three pickup trucks. All the vehicles were found to contain subsidised diesel in modified tanks for suspected smuggling purposes. The three lorries were detained at the heavy vehicle exit lane after passing Customs inspection on their way to Thailand at 8.45am, while the three pickups were detained earlier at 7.30am at the Malaysian exit lane after passing through Immigration. The vehicles were impounded for further action under Section 6 of the Road Transport Act 1987. "The total value of the seizure, including vehicles, amounted to RM380,600," SAC Nasaruddin told the media later. He said all the vehicle drivers involved, aged 40 to 60, were arrested. SAC Nasaruddin said his team believes a syndicate is smuggling subsidised fuel out of the country for sale as far away as Myanmar. "Perhaps diesel is taken from gas stations in Malaysia and industrial storage facilities. Their modus operandi is varied, and this is one way they obtain it," he said. At the same press conference, SAC Nasaruddin said the AKPS also issued 21 Notices of Refusal of Entry (NPM) on Monday (Aug 11) and Tuesday to foreign nationals suspected of not being genuine tourists and not meeting entry requirements as visitors under Section 8(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. He said they comprised four male Chinese nationals, two Thai men and 13 Thai women, one male Indian national and a Pakistani man. "All of them were ordered to return to their respective countries of origin via the same route. "This entry refusal process was carried out according to standard operating procedures and departmental circulars in effect. "No seizures were made and there were no criminal elements or enforcement investigations in this case," he added. – Bernama
