Ibiza Rocks suspends all events after deaths of Scottish and British tourists

A 19-year-old died instantly in a fall at the four-star hotel where a Scots holidaymaker lost his life just a fortnight ago.
Ibiza Rocks have suspended all events following the deaths of a Scottish and British tourist.

A 19-year-old died instantly in a fall at the four-star hotel where a Scots holidaymaker lost his life just a fortnight ago. Two ambulances were sent to the scene but paramedics say there was nothing they could do to save him.

The tragedy, which is being investigated by police, occurred just after midnight and the Civil Guard confirmed this morning he was a British national.

The hotel where the latest tragedy has occurred is the same one where Evan Thomson, from Aberdeen, fell to his death on July 7. The 26-year-old was on holiday with pals celebrating his birthday.
A statement from Ibiza Rocks read: "We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred. Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations.

"The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme at this time. All customers will be informed directly via email."
Local police confirmed in a statement that an investigation had been launched following the latest tragedy at the hotel.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: 'We are investigating the death of a 19-year-old British man at a hotel in San Antonio in Ibiza. The alarm was raised around 12.40am this morning.

'Our officers were sent to the scene but the man in question was already dead by the time help arrived. The fall was from from the third floor of the hotel to an outside part of the complex.
'Court officials authorised the removal of his body at 2.40am this morning. The fall could be accidental based on the early information obtained from cameras but as part of the investigation possible witnesses will need to be located and interviewed. The results of the post-mortem will also be important to the investigation.'

In the days after Evan's death his loved ones raised questions about safety and blasted the hotel where he died over the way the situation was handled.
Evan's sister Teila said: "Ibiza is known for its partying and it just stuns me that they don't have higher safety precautions. Pray nobody else suffers. And, once it did happen, the hotel's response was just completely heartbreaking; almost as if it never happened. I pray no other family has to go through this."
Friends who were with Evan claimed the hotel resumed normal operations just 90 minutes after his death. Blair Robertson, 25, had flown out the day before the tragedy and spent the night celebrating. He described their final night out as one of the best they had ever had together.

At around 6am he discovered Evan was no longer in their hotel room. Moments later, the group realised he had fallen from the balcony at the hotel.
Blair said: 'Security took us away to front desk. Paramedics didn't arrive for about 30 minutes. Forensic officers didn't speak English. We were just standing there, not knowing what was going on. Reception gave us false hope.
"We heard the jet washes cleaning the ground where Evan died. That was the worst thing for us — how fast they tried to get things back to normal."

Evan's girlfriend Remi Duncan, 23, added: 'It was disgusting. There was minimal respect for the situation, considering the music went back on soon after Evan had died. It puts a pit in your stomach.'
In April a 33-year-old British woman died at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Local police and paramedics rushed to the hotel, situated just metres from one of the world's most famous sunsets, after the alarm was raised around 6.30pm on April 30.

Emergency responders confirmed when they arrived the holidaymaker had gone into cardiac arrest and spent around 40 minutes practicing CPR on her to try to revive her.
She was declared dead at the scene after efforts to save her life proved unsuccessful. Well-placed sources said at the time there was nothing pointing to the death being suspicions.

On April 27 a 19-year-old Italian tourist of Turkish origin plunged to her death from the fourth-floor at the same hotel. She had flown to the island the previous day and gone out partying.
She was said at the time to have tried to been trying to reach her room via a balcony from a shared area of the hotel after realising she didn't have her key card when she lost her footing and fell. Her lifeless body was discovered around 9am on April 27.

Last Monday a 25-year-old British tourist died in hospital from injuries he sustained in a fall from a supermarket car park in San Antonio the previous day.
He was rushed to an intensive care unit at a private island hospital following the incident.
The Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries, saying around midday last Monday: 'Regrettably and despite all the efforts of medical personnel, the patient who fell yesterday in San Antonio has died due to the severity of his injuries."

Woman who let little girl drive car ordered to do unpaid work

A woman who filmed a young girl driving a car through a Scottish village has been ordered to carry out 134 hours of unpaid work. Sophie-Leigh Gemmell, 32, admitted culpable and reckless conduct after letting the child – aged under ten – drive the vehicle through Crimond, Aberdeenshire, in bad weather. The video of the incident, which happened on July 10 last year, was seen on Snapchat. It showed the child driving in the dark while peering over the steering wheel as music plays and her mother cheers. Snapchat Snapchat video showing the child under ten driving a car. Snapchat At Peterhead Sheriff Court on Monday, Gemmell was given a 134-hour community payback order – reduced from 200 due to her plea. Sheriff Alan Sinclair said her actions were 'reckless in the extreme'. But he said a custodial sentence would have been 'disproportionate'. The court heard she had no previous criminal record. He told the mother that she and the girl were 'very fortunate' not to have suffered more serious consequences and added that allowing a child to operate machinery could have caused injury to both the occupants of the car and the wider public. The sheriff said filming the incident 'defies any reasonable explanation'. Gemmell's defence agent said the 32-year-old had difficult family circumstances and was the victim of domestic abuse. He said her behaviour was an attempt at 'levity' during a 'dire' time for the family. The defence agent said Gemmell admitted her 'behaviour was completely foolish' and a result of 'poor decision-making'. He said she wished to apologise to the court and showed 'genuine remorse' for her actions and an 'acceptance' that 'the behaviour was wrong and a willingness to accept that'. He added that a social work report found she was 'of no risk of further offending' and 'does not need supervision'. The defence said Gemmell 'appreciates and understands this is a serious matter' that 'could have had serious consequences' and that she recognised she deserves to be punished for her actions. Gemmell must complete her unpaid work within 12 months. Petition to repeal Online Safety Act reaches 340K signatures

On the UK Government website, it shares that the Online Safety Act was created to protect "children and adults online" by putting a "range of new duties on social media companies and search services." The changes from the act apply across the UK and include age checks on pornography websites, as well as other platforms like Reddit, X and Bluesky. The Act was passed into law on October 26, 2023, and was implemented on July 25, 2025, with platforms now requiring users to prove their age by ID verification. Well done to everyone who campaigned to ensure age verification for pornography was in the Online Safety Act! Today it comes into force and while no doubt there will be some who get around it, it means young kids in particular won't be stumbling on violent and harmful porn. — Jess Asato MP (@Jess4Lowestoft) July 25, 2025 The measures, as part of the Online Safety Act and set to be enforced by regulator Ofcom, require online platforms to have age checks – using facial age estimation or credit card checks. Since the act was implemented, a petition has been launched and has surpassed more than 340,000 signatures. Calls for the Online Safety Act to be repealed in viral petition Sharing why the petition was made, the creator behind it Alex Baynham, wrote: "We believe that the scope of the Online Safety act is far broader and restrictive than is necessary in a free society. "For instance, the definitions in Part 2 covers online hobby forums, which we think do not have the resource to comply with the act and so are shutting down instead. "We think that parliament should repeal the act and work towards producing proportionate legislation rather than risking clamping down on civil society talking about trains, football, video games or even hamsters because it can't deal with individual bad faith actors." At the time of writing, the petition had surpassed the needed 100,000 signatures for Parliament to consider debating the petition. On TikTok, the act has prompted a large amount of debate. Recommended Reading Content creator Thomas Pearson branded the act "pointless", sharing that he believes the act "is a fundamental betrayal of one of the core principles of British democracy; governing and policing by consent". Previously discussing the act, Technology Secretary Peter Kyle told Sky News: "I have very high expectations of the change that children will experience. "And let me just say this to parents and children, you will experience a different internet really, for the first time in from today, moving forward than you've had in the past. And that is a big step forward."
