New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) on Monday released two separate Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) reports for states and union territories and the various union ministries and departments.
DARPG released the 34th CPGRAMS Report of States/UTs and the 37th CPGRAMS report Central Ministries/Departments, showcasing success stories.
According to an official statement, in the 34th report, there was a grievance against Rajesh Choudhary about a delay in GST Registration for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
'Rajesh Choudhary faced repeated rejections of his GST registration application over a span of three months, despite having responded to all departmental queries. The delay caused financial losses to his MSME startup, as potential clients required a valid GST number to proceed with business transactions,' an official statement from the ministry said.
'He also raised concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the reasons for rejection. Seeking redressal, he filed a grievance on the CPGRAMS portal. Following this, the concerned officer reviewed the application, verified the details, and approved the GST registration. A GST number has now been issued, thereby resolving the grievance,' the statement added.
A grievance by one Pawan Rajput regarding Irregular Power Supply, stated, 'a resident of Rajendra Nagar, Bareilly, faced frequent power outages due to a faulty connection from the nearby electricity pole. This not only caused severe discomfort during the summer nights but also posed a risk to household appliances. Despite raising multiple complaints through the electricity helpline, the issues remained unresolved, and complaints were closed without action. Seeking resolution, he filed a grievance on the CPGRAMS portal. Upon review, the concerned authorities visited the site and rectified the faulty connection. The grievance was resolved within 15 days.'
A grievance by Faiz Mohammad Ayyub for Area Cleaning and Mosquito Control was also mentioned in the statement. 'A resident of Ainuddinpur, Kareli, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, raised a concern regarding stagnant rainwater around his house leading to a severe mosquito infestation. He also reported the overgrowth of poisonous weeds, increasing the risk of snake sightings and endangering his family's safety. Seeking immediate action, he filed a grievance on the CPGRAMS portal, requesting weed removal, mosquito control spray, and garbage clearance.'
Upon review, the concerned authorities cleaned the area, removed the overgrown vegetation, and conducted mosquito repellent spraying to address the issue. The grievance was resolved and closed.
In the 37th CPGRAMS Report of Central Ministries/Departments, the success stories highlighted the story of Prem Deep.
Prem Deep, after his Army release, submitted all required documents for settlement, but faced delays and no response from PCDA (Officers), Pune regarding partial dues of Rs 90,936 and a PLI refund of Rs 6,492. Despite multiple attempts, the matter remained unresolved, causing distress. Seeking resolution, he filed a grievance on the CPGRAMS portal. Upon review, authorities confirmed the PLI refund and release of 76,808 after adjustments, providing Statements of Accounts as proof. All dues were settled, and the grievance was close.
Another incident mentioned was that of Syoprasad, a salaried taxpayer who had filed his return for the Assessment Year 2014-15, claiming a TDS credit of Rs 16,536. However, while processing the return, the credit was not given, and a demand of Rs 16,560 was incorrectly raised. Despite submitting a rectification request and paying the demand, no correction was made, and additional interest under Section 220(2) was shown. Seeking resolution, he filed a grievance on the CPGRAMS portal. Upon review, the concerned authorities rectified the mistake and issued a refund of 18,360. The refund was credited to his revalidated bank account. (ANI)

Nagaland not frontrunner in GST collection: Official
Dimapur: Nagaland's commissioner of taxes Abhinav Shivam said the state is not a frontrunner in GST collection in average or per capita terms. He said revenue leaks through evasion have severely affected the state share. Addressing the inaugural programme of the five-day on site training on GST for Nagaland state tax officers at the office of the commissioner of state taxes, Dimapur, Shivam said Nagaland has a unique and complex history. "Our geography, remoteness, infrastructural challenges, and political complexities have led to a legacy of underdevelopment," he said, adding the state struggled to establish revenue-generating industries and enterprises. Pointing out that Nagaland relies heavily on tax revenues to meet its financial and developmental needs, Shivam said optimising tax revenue is not merely an administrative objective but also a developmental imperative.

Trade shift as India exports more to US and imports more from China amid global realignment
New Delhi: Amid the ongoing US–China trade war, India appears to be emerging as a beneficiary, particularly in exports to the United States, as China's shipments to the American market have taken a sharp hit, according to trade data from both nations analysed by Mint. The latest figures for May 2025, released by China's General Administration of Customs on 10 June and India's Commerce Ministry on 16 June, show a clear realignment in global trade flows, with China redirecting its exports to markets like India, the 27-nation European Union, and the 10-member ASEAN bloc. China's overall exports in May rose by 4.6% year-on-year—from $302.1 billion to $316.2 billion—but its exports to the United States plummeted by 34.5%, falling from $44 billion in May 2024 to just $28.8 billion in May 2025, the data showed. Also read: India's goods trade deficit narrows to $21.88 billion in May from year ago This sharp decline is being offset by rising exports to the EU (up 12% to $49.5 billion), ASEAN (up 15% to $58.4 billion) and India (up 12.4% to $11.13 billion). The redirection of Chinese exports raises fresh concerns about potential dumping and unfair trade practices in alternative markets. India's own trade patterns are also shifting. While its overall merchandise imports dipped marginally by 1.8%—from $61.7 billion in May 2024 to $60.6 billion this May—this decline was mainly due to lower shipments of oil, gold, and diamonds. Excluding these three categories, India's imports actually jumped 12%, rising from $36.8 billion to $41.2 billion. This trend is also visible in tax collections. India's earnings from Integrated GST (IGST) on imports jumped by 72.9% in May 2025 compared to a year ago—rising from ₹24,510 crore to ₹42,370 crore. Since petroleum products are not taxed under GST, this sharp increase mainly reflects a rise in imports of other goods like electronics, machinery, and industrial products. Also read: Mint Explainer | Strait of Hormuz: Will Iran shut the vital oil artery of the world? Electronics and machinery led the import growth. Electronics imports rose 27.5% to $9.1 billion, while machinery and computer-related imports jumped 22% to $5 billion. Much of this increase came from China. Combined imports from China and Hong Kong surged 22.4% in May—from $9.8 billion in 2024 to $12 billion in 2025. India's exports to the US also grew sharply, rising 17.3% to $8.8 billion, led by higher shipments of smartphones and electronics. The growth highlights India's strategic position in the evolving supply chain as American buyers diversify sourcing away from China. 'The trade data clearly signals that global supply chains are adapting rapidly. But the shift also brings new vulnerabilities," said Ajay Srivastava, co-founder of the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). 'India must be vigilant against import surges from China and ensure that trade remedies are available if there is any sign of dumping." Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East—especially involving Iran, Israel, the Houthis and Hamas—pose fresh risks for India. 'If the Strait of Hormuz faces disruption, it could significantly raise logistics and energy costs for Indian exporters," said Srivastava. Also read: Israel-Iran conflict: How will rising crude oil prices affect India? 'The engineering exports sector continues to show resilience despite persistent global challenges. While it recorded a marginal dip in shipments during May 2025, the cumulative number stays positive," said Pankaj Chadha, chairman of the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC). As per the official data, engineering goods exports declined 0.8% year-on-year in May this year to $9.89 billion as compared to $9.97 billion in the same month last year. Cumulatively, engineering exports during April-May period of FY26 stand at $19.40 billion as against $18.52 billion in the same period last year thus registering a growth of 4.7%.

TRAI launches pilot project for Digital Consent Management, aiming to curb spam
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): Having observed that a large number of spam complaints are made by the customers against the business entities from whom the consumers have earlier purchased goods or services, TRAI has launched a pilot project for Digital Consent Management in partnership with RBI and banks. On investigation of spam, TRAI came to the conclusion that such business entities often claim that they possess the consent of the consumer for receiving commercial calls and messages. Under the regulatory framework defined by the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018, an entity can make commercial communications to a consumer irrespective of his/her Do Not Disturb (DND) preferences provided the entity has taken explicit consent from the consumer. However, in many cases, these consents were collected through offline or unverifiable means, making it extremely difficult to ascertain their validity and genuineness, TRAI said in a statement Monday.. In several instances, consumers report that their mobile numbers have been acquired by the entities for this purpose through misrepresentation, deception, or unauthorised data-sharing practices. TRAI has undertaken several innovative regulatory measures in recent years to curb such practices. These include allowing consumers to register complaints against unregistered telemarketers (UTMs) even without prior DND registration, and initiating large-scale disconnection of telecom resources being misused by the entities for spamming activities. However, verification of consent for commercial communication citing offline consent of consumer remains a formidable challenge. To address the issue, the regulations provide for acquiring consent digitally by the entities and registering them in a secure and interoperable digital consent registry maintained by the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for easy verification of consents while commercial communication is made to the consumers. However, for the successful operation of this consent registration framework, onboarding of entities sending commercial communications is a necessary requirement. Accordingly, to begin the national roll-out, TRAI has launched a Pilot Project in coordination with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) involving select banks and has issued a Direction on 13th June, 2025, to all the Telecom Service Providers, mandating them to pilot this framework in collaboration with banks. Given the sensitivity of banking transactions and cases of financial frauds through spam calls, the banking sector has been prioritised for the first phase of implementation. This Pilot, running under a Regulatory Sandbox framework, will validate the operational, technical, and regulatory aspects of the enhanced Consent Registration Function (CRF) and lay the foundation for sector-wise scaling of the digital consent ecosystem. TRAI said it remains committed to safeguarding consumer interests and enhancing trust in legitimate commercial communications. The Authority said it will continue to work with sectoral regulators and stakeholders to ensure that the ecosystem evolves towards more secure, transparent, and consumer-centric practices. (ANI)
