Kerala Man ‘Disgusted' In Gurugram As ‘Nosy Uncle' Quizzes Muslim Auto Driver Over ‘Appearance'
The man later wrote that he was shocked to face such discrimination. He said he may even consider shifting if his society shared the same mindset.
A man from Kerala has shared a disturbing case of Islamophobia in Gurugram. Writing on Reddit, he said the incident took place late at night in Sector 40 after he booked a Rapido auto.
When the driver arrived, a resident from the society stopped him. The resident began questioning the driver's identity and asked why he was there. The driver, who appeared to be Muslim, was even asked to show his phone.
The Kerala man said the driver kept explaining that it was a booked ride. But the resident refused to listen. 'Like WTF? The poor guy kept saying it's a ride, but this clown just wouldn't stop," the man wrote.
At this point, he intervened and told the resident, 'This is my ride, I live here. Who are you to decide who comes and who doesn't? Where's the rule that says Muslims can't enter?"
He further explained to the society member that Rapido rides are tracked, so such suspicion made no sense. 'Bro, this is Rapido. Everything is tracked. I'm more scared of nosy pricks like you than the driver," he added.
Shocked by Intolerance
The man later wrote that he was shocked to face such discrimination. He said he may even consider shifting if his society shared the same mindset.
'I am from Kerala, and I have never seen this kind of shit before. People always say intolerance is rising in India and I used to think maybe it's exaggerated. Nope," he wrote.
He called the incident 'disgusting" and added, 'Imagine having to prove your damn existence to random strangers every night just because of your religion to make ends meet."
Social Media Reactions
The Reddit post triggered strong responses. Many users supported the man and condemned the behaviour.
'Gurugram is an absolute sh*thole of a place. Literally the worst place in India I have ever lived," one user wrote.
Another person shared, 'I've been denied houses on rent for multiple years now in both Bangalore and Gurugram, in posh colonies. Eventually, this and other discriminations led me to shift to the US."
A user from Kerala added, 'Is this your first time in North India? A broker once asked my religion. When I reacted, he quickly said, 'Don't worry, it's just to make sure you're not a Muslim.'"
The post has now sparked an online debate on intolerance and discrimination in Indian cities.

Six Severed Heads Found By Drivers On Roadside In Mexico With ‘Revenge' Note
Authorities in Mexico found six severed heads on a road between Puebla and Tlaxcala, linked to gang disputes over fuel theft. Authorities in Mexico discovered six severed heads along a road linking the central states of Puebla and Tlaxcala, in an area where such extreme violence is rare, prosecutors said. The gruesome discovery was first reported by passing drivers. All of the victims were men, according to Tlaxcala's prosecutor's office which has launched an investigation. Local media reported that a pamphlet left at the scene suggested the killings were linked to disputes between gangs involved in fuel theft. Cartels in Mexico frequently leave messages near bodies to threaten rivals or punish behaviour they claim violates their rules. Separately, Mexican media reported that another severed head and additional human remains were discovered in the western city of Colima. While Puebla and Tlaxcala have long been home to criminal groups, they are not typically associated with the extreme brutality more common in northern states or along the Pacific coast. But in recent months, bodies have been found near the border between the two states. Extreme Cartel Violence In Mexico Decapitation and other displays of violence have been used by Mexican drug cartels for decades to instil fear. In June this year, 20 bodies were found along a road in Sinaloa state, five of them headless. In April 2024, seven bodies- five decapitated and another dismembered- were found in a car abandoned on a busy expressway, each accompanied by a written message. Similar incidents have occurred in Guerrero and southern Mexico in recent years. Since 2006, when Mexico deployed federal troops to fight cartels, an estimated 480,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence, while about 130,000 remain missing. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Chaos At Milan Airport As Hammer-Wielding Man Smashes Check-In Screens, Sets Fire
Chaos erupted at Milan's Malpensa Airport when a man with a hammer set fire to a check-in area. Chaos broke out at Milan's Malpensa Airport when a man armed with a hammer stormed into the departure hall of Terminal 1 and set fire to part of a check-in area. The incident occurred when the attacker smashed screens between two check-in desks and ignited a rubbish bin, according to Italian media. He also reportedly tried to strike security staff before being restrained. The suspect, a Malian resident in Italy with no criminal record, has been arrested. A staff member first noticed smoke rising from the desks and intervened as the suspect damaged equipment. Passengers then stepped in to help subdue him, Varese News reported. Footage posted online showed thick black smoke pouring from the terminal as panicked travellers evacuated. Emergency services quickly responded to extinguish the flames. Delays And Disruption After Incident Terminal 1 was partially closed following the attack, forcing passengers to queue outside. The Lombardy Airports Association confirmed the suspect's arrest and said while flight operations continued, some delays and cancellations were possible. Airport staff said that air quality inside the building was still 'unbreathable" hours after the fire. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. view comments First Published: August 20, 2025, 18:50 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
