E-bike crackdown: Man charged with riding dangerously, assaulting cop
By
A Brisbane man has been charged with seven offences during a police crackdown on illegal e-bikes.
Officers allege the 19-year-old was seen riding an illegal e-bike down Elizabeth Street in the CBD before police flagged him down.
He then attempted to flee on the bike before being arrested, police said.
Bodycam footage shared by Queensland Police shows the man trying to ride away. He was stopped and detained by an officer on foot shortly afterwards.
A search of his belongings then allegedly uncovered a used pipe.
The man was charged with seven offences including one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault of a police officer, driving an uninsured vehicle and possessing dangerous drugs.
He will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 6.

Sun all day but city to remain cool
After another chilly winter's dawn, Brisbane is set for its sunniest day of the week today.
But with no cloud cover, the top temperature should hover at a cool 22 degrees, with a 'feels like' temperature far lower.
Clouds could return tomorrow, which will hopefully ensure more warmth is trapped during the day.
Here's the seven-day outlook:

‘We've lost some very good people': Small church at centre of mushroom trial tries to move on
Pam Atkinson, another leader of the church, told congregants to fall back on faith, hope and love when bad things happen. She named Don, Gail and Heather just once. Earlier, the church band – with similar unspoken symbolism – played Colin Buchanan's The Lord is King, which the Australian country singer wrote to comfort his young daughter, who was unsettled by TV news reports after the 9/11 attacks. The final song of the service was O God Beyond All Praising, which the church band's singer said was a tribute to Heather Wilkinson, as she was who first suggested the song be added to the church's song list years ago. 'We have lost some very good and loving people,' the band leader said. Korumburra churchgoers did not appear surprised to see a media contingent at their small Baptist congregation. Many were friendly and accommodating to journalists, bringing out coffee and yo-yo biscuits to those outside huddled near cameras in the freezing wind. Four reporters were allowed inside the church for the service and were warmly greeted by those sitting in the surrounding pews. However, no one wanted to comment about the mushroom trial that has cast unprecedented global attention onto this sleepy town in the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges in eastern Victoria. Indeed, many locals just want the frenzy to be over. A note about the Patterson and Wilkinson deaths remains pinned to the church noticeboard. 'We greatly miss Heather, Don and Gail, whether we were friends for a short time, or over 20 years. They were very special people who loved God and loved to bless others,' it says. 'It's been a long journey, and we continue to lovingly support Ian, Simon, and all the Wilkinson and Patterson family members through this difficult time.' The message ends by asking for the privacy of the families and church community to be respected. With a 10-week trial now over – having delved into the Patterson and Wilkinson families in forensic detail – the church community may soon get its wish.

Elmo's X hacked with vile posts, with potential link to WA
The official X account for childhood hero Elmo was hacked early on Monday morning, with a post by the hacker indicating a Perth local may be connected. Many Australians woke up to see the Sesame Street star was trending online, but were shocked to discover it was due to several vile messages posted on the page by a hacker. Posts made on the hacked account contained antisemitic, racist, and transphobic language as well as references to US President Donald Trump. 'Donald Trump is Netanyahu's puppet because he is in the Epstein files,' one post said, referencing the relationship between the leaders of the United States and Israel. 'Release the files @RealDonaldTrump,' another post said, before using an offensive term to describe the US President. Three of the offensive posts put on the account by the hacker. Credit: @elmo / X Another post called for harm against the Jewish people. One individual who replied to the hacker's post saying they were going to mute the Sesame Street account was met with a swift response from the Elmo account, which contained a transphobic slur. A post from the account amid the hack listed the names of three individuals who it claimed contribute to account hacks on X - with the post stating one of the named hackers is 'residing in Western Australia'. 'H** aka H**** M***** hacks twitter accounts, and his partner @c****3***, aka I**** J**** P******, residing in Western Australia launches and bundles them, then with the help of his friend @w******_*** they shill it to FNF.' One post by the hacker indicated a Western Australian resident was involved in Credit: @elmo / X The account of the Western Australian has since been banned from X for violations of the platform's rules. There is no confirmation yet as to what the man's connection is to this hacking, other than him being named in the Elmo account's post. The account for Elmo, under the username @elmo, has more than 645,000 followers and has existed on the platform since November 2012. The official Elmo account has more than 645,000 followers. Credit: @elmo / X A representative for Sesame Workshop confirmed the digital security breach to media outlets. 'Elmo's X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts,' the rep said. 'We are working to restore full control of the account.' Fans of the red puppet took to social media to voice their anger at the hacking. 'Whoever hacked Elmo to make it look like that baby boy was evil you're not seeing Heaven,' one user posted. 'World must be getting eviler for someone to be heartless enough to hack Elmo,' another user said. 'Elmo shouldn't even be on Twitter anyway… he's three,' a third person joked.

Melbourne anti-Semitic threat: Video from ‘cell' emerges online, taking responsibility for attack on business
Police are investigating a disturbing online video featuring a masked individual sitting in front of a Palestinian flag, claiming responsibility for an anti-Semitic attack in Victoria. The threatening video recently surfaced online and includes claims that the 'cell' has the address of Australians involved in the production of weapons supplied to Israel, adding it will distribute those details through it's underground network. It also includes details about how individuals could carry out attacks, showing fire-lighters in a bag which is then set on fire, adding a warning to be careful of DNA. 'This is an anonymous communique by the cell that torched three cars at Lovett Technologies on the morning of July 5th 2025,' the video begins. 'Let there be no illusions as to what this was. This was not an accident nor thoughtless vandalism. 'This is a clear and serious threat. 'If you continue making weapons components of any kind there will be consequences. Consider this a warning.' The video alleges that Lovitt Technologies 'has chosen its place' after '21 months of an accelerated genocide against the Palestinian people by the illegitimate Zionist entity'. It also mentions the 'murder of Aboriginal peoples across so-called 'Australia''. The video claims responsibilities for the attack at Lovett Technologies, claiming that it has the addresses of individuals working there. 'We will decide your fate, as you have decided the fate of millions,' the masked figure says. 'For the past few months we have been closely watching you. 'We have your addresses. 'All the information we have about you will be distributed to our underground networks. 'Stop arming Israel or else.' On June 5, three cars outside Lovitt were graffitied and set on fire. Anti-Semitic messages were sprayed on the cars that then sat there burnt. Victoria Police said the incident is currently under investigation by the Victorian joint counter terrorism team. 'The investigation into an incident at a Greensborough business earlier this month remains ongoing,' a spokesperson said. 'It's understood up to five people attended the property on Para Road about 3.55am on Saturday 5 July 2025. Victoria Police said they are 'aware' of the video. 'Investigators are aware of a video which has been circulating where a group has claimed responsibility for the incident.' 'This video is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The video with the masked individual includes a disturbing call to action. 'If you are watching this you can do what we have done,' the individual from the 'cell' says. 'Be mindful of fingerprints and DNA.' The individual then sets what appears to be a brown paper bag on fire. As the bag, which appears to be filled with fire starters, burns, the individual says 'every colony will burn'. 'Land back and liberation will grow back from the ashes,' the individual says. 'Death to Israel, death to Australia, death to America. 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.' The Australian Jewish Association shared the threatening video on it's social media saying 'Australian businesses are being threatened by 'Free Palestine' thugs'. 'This is what happens when the Labor Government refuses to act for almost 2 years,' it added. Police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the National Security Hotline immediately on 1800 123 400.
